Mildred “Dolly” Ferry, age 90, of Port Vue died Saturday December 31, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Pittsburgh on February 11, 1926 and is the daughter of the late Hiram Layton and Alice Collins Lindsay. She was raised by her grandparents William and Emma Collins after her mother died. She was the wife of the late William Harold Ferry.

She is survived by children, Cheryl Pistorius of Port Vue, Judy (Barry) Miller of Lenoir City, TN, Kathleen (Timothy) Vargo of Versailles, and Michael (Dana) Ferry of Glassport. She was preceded in death by her son William Harold Ferry and grandson Sean. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law; Patsy Ferry Harris of North Huntingdon, grandchildren; Holly, Crystal, Christian, Tammy, Jeana, Matthew, Timothy, Alaina, Hayden, and Anna; 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Family will receive friends at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) on Tuesday, January 3rd from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Elwin Lee "Bo" Johnston age 86, of Greentree, formerly of Hazelwood, he was born December 6, 1930, in the Southside of Pittsburgh, and passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016, surrounded by his family at the Paramount Assisted Living in Baldwin. He was a son of the late Frank and Gladys Wageley Johnston. Elwin was a graduate of Taylor-Alderdice High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and was called to serve his country during the Korean War. As a veteran of the US Army, Elwin was able to demonstrate both love of his country and his outstanding athleticism by playing baseball for the Army in Germany. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division and the Rhine Conference Baseball Champions in 1954. Elwin was employed by US Steel and had a successful career as a computer programmer and then a systems designer until his retirement. He had an extreme love of reading, opera, golf, and the arts. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucia “Lucy” (DiGiorgio) Johnston; loving father of Kenneth (Lorraine) Johnston, Karen (Garth) Littrell, Elaine, and Fran (fiancé, Dave Hoover) Scott; grandfather of Nicholas (Nicole) Johnston, Megan (fiancé Josh Iacchini) Johnston, the late Brian Johnston, Spencer Scott, Connor (Jessica) Scott, and Lucy Scott; great-grandfather of Nicholas Johnston, Alexandra Johnston, and Gianna Scott. Elwin’s funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Jefferson Memorial Park Administration Chapel, Rev. Thomas Lewandowski officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park with military honors. Elwin’s family would like to thank Paramount Assisted Living (Baldwin) for their kindness, love and support. George F. Cindrich, age 89, of White oak, formerly of McKeesport, died December 30, 2017, at Riverside Care Center. Born January 18, 1927, in Mckeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dragica (Luketic) Cindrich and the husband of Deloris (Kozlowski) Cindrich, for over 68 loving years. George was retired from US Steel, National Tube Works, where he worked as a millwright for over 40 years. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Church. George was also a US Army veteran, serving during WWII. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was always there to lend a hand.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by children, Donna (Greg) Schneider of North Huntingdon and Diane (Mark) Bartko of White Oak; grandchildren, Lesley (Aaron) Knoechel, Kim (Rich) Michniak, Ashlee Bartko and Jason Bartko; great grandchildren, Olivia, Natalie, Allison and Avery; siblings, Frank (Helen) Cindrich of North Versailles, Mary Ann Kandala of North Versailles and Anne Pratt of Portland, OR; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel; siblings, Matt and Rose.

Family and friends will be received at Jaycox – Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, January 2, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Noon. Fr. Steven M. Palsa will be the celebrant. Committal with military honors will follow in St. Mary Polish Cemetery.

John A. Novak, Jr., age 68 of Elizabeth, died Thursday, December 29, 2016.  He was born in Pittsburgh on July 17, 1948 and was the son of the late Melda Smith Novak. He was a graduate of Point Park University, an entrepreneur, and a disabled veteran. He was a medic in the navy and served during the Vietnam Era.  He was a member of the Duquesne-McKeesport Lodge #731 F&AM where he was a Master Mason 3rd Degree. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodcarving.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Rusnock Novak of Elizabeth; father, John A. Novak, Sr. of Pittsburgh; brother, William Novak, Sr. of Cranberry Twp.; nephew, William Novak, Jr. of Cranberry; also great-nephews and great-nieces.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 5th from 5:30 pm until the time of service at 7 pm at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177) with a Masonic service following at 7:30 pm. Burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Friday, Jan. 6th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

David Crevar, age 64 of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 29, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. Born August 4, 1952 in West Mifflin, he was the son of the late Milan and Dorothy (Kascak) Crevar. David was a 1970 graduate of West Mifflin North High School where is was a member of the school marching band. Following high school, he went on to study at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, earning his Bachelors of Pharmaceutical Sciences degree in 1975.  Upon graduation from Pitt, David began his pharmaceutical career working for various pharmacies in both Pennsylvania and Ohio. He eventually came back home to become the owner of the Medicine Shop in Clairton for many years. David lived his life through the Lord, and shared his faith and love to all of his customers through prayer. He was always active in the community in many ways, and his generosity toward others went unmeasured. In his free time, he found great joy in being outside running, whether it be a marathon, a run down River Road, or a stroll with his beloved shih tzu, Buttons. He also loved to garden and was always there for family and friends to help with yard work and landscaping. His trips on holiday weekends to Indian Lake in Somerset were also some of his favorite pastimes. David is survived by his dearest and best friend, Irene Kumf of McKeesport; son, Jared Crevar of Hermosa Beach, CA; granddaughter, Miah Crevar; siblings, Karl Crevar of West Mifflin and Karen Crevar of Myrtle Beach, SC; niece, Carrie Ann (Mark) Hartman; nephew, Karl (Adrienne) Crevar; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and extended family from Eleanor Barton, Yaniga, Wiesen, Chapman, Kutzfara and Candalore families. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 1-8 p.m. Blessing Service will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Service at 10 a.m. at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church. The Very Rev. Stevan G. Rocknage will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
