Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 06, 2025
Chevelle “Chevie” LaShon Robinson-Chambers, 53, of McKeesport, PA, was born on December 27, 1971 at McKeesport Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Lily Florene Robinson and the late Raymond “Fab” Browning. Throughout her youth, Chevelle was affectionately known as “Chevie" to all of those who knew and loved her. But once she joined the U.S. Navy, she determined that others would have to address her by the lovely name she was given at birth, Chevelle.
Chevelle attended and graduated from McKeesport High School in 1989. Not long after graduating, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 5, 1989. After going through basic training, she was stationed on a naval ship at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Chevelle proudly served her country for 4 years. Upon returning home she made the decision to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Chevelle initially attended Connelly Technical Institute of Nursing in 1997 and became a licensed practical nurse; then transferred to the Nursing program at the Shadyside School of Nursing and graduated in 2001, where she received a Registered Nurse Diploma. Chevelle began her career as she worked as a nurse at many hospitals, nursing homes and agencies.
As a dedicated medical professional, Chevelle quickly progressed through more responsible positions while working tirelessly doing doubles (2 and 3 times a week) at the Allegheny County Jail to provide for her little diamond, Charae. She was well respected and loved by many while working there as she developed special friendships with the staff members, including nurses, other medical professionals and corrections officers, as well as being known as someone genuinely caring and trustworthy by the inmates. Many of the relationships Chevelle developed during her 12 plus years of service there continued long afterwards. During this time, Chevelle provided for her daughter Charae, who was Chevie’s WHOLE WORLD!!! She made sure Charae had everything she needed. Chevelle was finally able to scale back a bit when Charae graduated High School in 2016. Chevelle was so happy and she was even more excited when Charae received her degree. In Chevelle’s next career move, she took a different path and began working for UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Mon Yough of McKeesport as a Direct Support Professional, a position from which she eventually retired prior to her illness.
Chevelle was the adored baby of the family. She enjoyed listening to music and had a good time playing different types of games. Chevelle loved playing bingo, going to the casino and trying her luck playing the lottery. Chevelle loved pizza and making fresh collard greens; these were her favorite foods. She loved being at home chilling as she played board games. She was especially delighted in playing her video game “Ms. Pac Man” while singing along with what she called her “good” music.
Chevelle loved to be in the kitchen preparing different foods as she learned her “magic” from watching her mom "Diamond Lil” cook. She loved her mother, as she always referred to her as the greatest gift God could have ever given her. Cooking was one of Chevelle’s greatest passions as she would say, “I put my foot in it"!
Most of all, Chevelle loved becoming a mother to her only child, her daughter, Charae LaShon. But, when she finally became a grandmother to Andre, Jr., she was truly in love and was over the moon! Chevelle really loved and cherished every moment with her “Lil Stink,” as Andre Jr. lovingly called her his “Ma-Ma.” She showered her grandson with love and attention as she praised all of his accomplishments. Their love and affection for each other easily showed as Chevelle was crazy and didn’t play about her “Stink!”
Chevelle departed this life on November 21, 2025 at her home in McKeesport, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother, Lily Florene Robinson, and father Raymond “Fab” Browning.
