John E. Chlystek, age 90, of McKeesport, died Saturday, June 15, 2019. He was born June 1, 1929 in McKeesport, the son of the late Adam and Cecilia Weron Chlystek, and was the husband of the late Georgetta Craine Chlystek. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from McKeesport’s former Fort Pitt Steel Casting Company.
He is survived by his daughters; Patty Smith of Myrtle, SC, Cathy (Bob) McCort of Blairsville, and Tammy (Lou) Warman of McKeesport; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor 412-678-6177) on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of service at noon. Glenn H. Wilson, 87, of Irwin, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019. He was born July 2, 1931 in McKeesport, a son of the late Bill and Marie (Schweitzer) Lutes. Prior to his retirement, Glenn was a self-employed steel hauler and former owner of the Youngwood Hotel. He was a member of West Hempfield Presbyterian Church of Irwin and Mason Shidle Lodge, McKeesport. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Amelia (Exton) Wilson; sons, Dale (Dottie Boggs) Wilson, Gregg Wilson; daughters, Diane Palmer and Laurie Prenatt and her husband, Patrick; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. John Arthur White, 84, of Duquesne, Pa., died June 12, 2019, in UPMC Montefiore.
He was born June 30, 1934, in Durham, GA. He is the son of the late Thomas and Sarah LE Coleman-White. John was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond E. White and daughter, Jolene White-Davis.
He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He retired from the United States Steel Duquesne Works.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose L. Brookins-White of Duquesne; 3 children, Alicia White of Duquesne, John A. White, Jr. (Kerry) of Philadelphia and James D. John A. Swacus, 98, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019. He was born April 19, 1921 in North Braddock. Son of the late and dear Mary and Andrew Swacus and father of the late Dr. J. Richard Swacus. John was a graduate of North Braddock (Scott) Schools and the University of Pittsburgh where he received his B.S. and M.E. degrees, and was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army. He was a member of the Pitt Basketball team 1940-1943 and a member of the Pitt University Letterman's Club. John was a recipient of Alumni of Distinction Award in 2005 by the Laurel Chapter Panther Club, University of Pittsburgh. Prior to his retirement, John was a teacher, coach, principal and assistant superintendent serving 37 years in the Franklin Regional School District. His 1951 basketball team won the WPIAL Championship. He was a founding member of St. Agnes Church of North Huntingdon, was active in the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Oriss Swacus; son, Dr. J. Richard Swacus; and brother, Paul Swacus. John will be terribly missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. Alfred Pasek, 84, of Elizabeth Township, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 14, 2019. He was born May 17, 1935 in Brzeziny, Poland and was the son of the late Jan and Mary (Pacocha) Pasek. Alfred was President of Pasek Project Management Services and was a retired Mechanical Engineer and Consultant. He had worked for US Steel, Dravo, and Schneider. He was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Township and the Jaycees. He received his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Polytechnic of Krakow and served in the US Army Reserves. Alfred enjoyed golf, especially at the Youghiogheny Country Club where he was a member and Butler's Golf Course where he was a Ranger. He achieved a "Hole in One" at Clipper Shipyard Golf Course on Hilton Head Island, Hole # 4 on February 27, 1997. He was also a USGA Golf Course Rater. Alfred was very proud of his Polish heritage. His favorite way to share his heritage and love of having a good time with friends and family was to share a toast of "Sto Lat ! " which means to enjoy good life, good health, and 100 years of happiness.

Brendan A. McGowan, 18, of North Huntingdon, tragically passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019. He was born July 12, 2000, in Pittsburgh, the son of David and Darlene (Daugherty) McGowan. Brendan was a 2019 graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School where he was an honor student and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Brendan planned to attend the University of Pittsburgh this fall. He was an all-around sportsman and especially enjoyed playing baseball for Greensburg Central Catholic, NCAA, PAL and various travel teams. He ran cross country and enjoyed music, gardening, deer hunting, fishing, riding bikes, snowboarding and spending time with his friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, David E. Daugherty and paternal grandparents, Judge Bernard J. McGowan and Mary Aileen McGowan, a beloved friend, and his pup Bailey. He is survived by his sister Kaitlynn McGowan, aunts Kathy (David) Fertal, Mary Ann (Tim) Senecal, uncles Brian J. McGowan and Kevin J. (Cassandre) McGowan, numerous cousins and friends and two canine companions Hannah and Nia. Friends will be received at the James W. James N. "Culby" Culbertson of North Huntingdon died Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in his home. He was born July 4, 1951 in Pittsburgh, son of the late James N. Sr. and Esther (Calabrese) Culbertson. Culby worked as a bartender at Shafton Fireman's Club and was a retired employee of the State Correctional Institute at Pittsburgh and was a former employee of Westinghouse Electric Corp., East Pittsburgh. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Culby was also a baseball coach. She spent 32 of her 35-year career teaching at Francis McClure Junior HS in the McKeesport Area School District. Patricia was also a devoted animal lover and advocate.
