Stephen V. Gribschaw

Stephen V. Gribschaw, 92, passed away May 29, 2019. He was born in Glassport, Allegheny County, PA on December 23, 1926 to the late John and Anna Novotniak Gribschaw of Glassport, PA. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Theresa Josephine Walczak Gribschaw, his brothers and sisters: Ernest Gribschaw, Albert Gribschaw, Andrew Gribschaw, John Gribschaw, Marie Danko, and Cecilia Maher, by his daughter Ann Marie Fiore Soltis, and his grandchildren, Beth Ann Gribschaw and Stephen Michael Gribschaw. Stephen is survived by his children, Stephen Gribschaw, Teresa Day, Gregory Gribschaw, Mary K. Traud, and Stanley Gribschaw, his sister and brother: Celine “Alberta” Christensen, and Raymond Gribschaw. In addition, he leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Stephen was an active member of Queen of the Rosary Catholic Church in Glassport, PA. He participated in the Holy Name Society, the Counter group and was considered one of the favorite bingo callers. He was a member of the Greek Catholic Union Lodge 500, the Knights of Columbus Post 4210, the American Legion Post 443, and the United Steelworkers Local of America Union 1407 serving as a committeeman, treasurer, trustee and recording secretary. He was also a bingo caller at the American Legion Post 443 in Glassport. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations at the US Naval Ship Repair Facility at Subic Bay in the Philippines, serving as Yeoman for the Base Commander. He was a member of the Subic Bay Association WWII Navy Veterans. Stephen loved to travel and enjoyed traveling with Theresa, visiting all fifty states in the U.S. Stephen was a hardworking man and supported his wife and children. Stephen worked at the United States Glass company and the Copperweld BiMetallics Division in Glassport until the plant shut down in 1983. Stephen was an active participant in the Ginkgo Evaluation of Memory Study (GEMS) and other studies at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a wonderful storyteller and loved to share jokes and anecdotes with everyone. He is greatly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Rosary Church in Glassport PA on Tuesday, June 4th at 10am. Visitation will be held at Wojciechowski’s Funeral Home in Glassport on Monday, June 3rd from 2-4 and 6-8. His final resting place will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery in Port Vue, PA. In lieu of flowers, please send Memorial Donations to Queen of the Rosary parish in Glassport, PA.

She was born May 19, 1958 in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Janet Lee Butler Finerfrock. Janet enjoyed cooking, decorating her home, walks in the woods, nature and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Butler. He was a member of the Central Fire Co. the Buena Vista Fire Co Social Club, and the National Pike Steam-Gas-Horse Association. He was a former Assistant Fire Chief for the Collinsburg Fire Co.

Domenico Consales

Domenico Consales, 89, of White Oak, died Monday, May 27, 2019.  He emigrated in 1963 from his birthplace of Mondragone, Italy, where he was born on March 14, 1930.  He was the oldest offspring and only son of the late Salvatore Consales and Matilde Del Prete.  

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Michelina (d'Aiello) Consales and daughter Matilde of White Oak.  He is also survived by sisters; Vittoria Consales of Rome, Italy, and Maria Consales of Caserta, Italy, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Carmela.  

In Italy, he worked in agriculture with his family from a very young age, and for many years.  In the United States, he began working in shipping and packing for Berarducci Brothers.  He was a welder at Reliance Steel in Christy Park, a machinist for Westinghouse Airbrake, and a guard at Kane in McKeesport.

He was a member of St. Angela Merici Church.  He was known for being a very strong-willed, anxious, independent, neat, organized, and frugal man.  He told many stories of his beloved Italy.  He loved to walk, read, sunbathe, garden, and bake bread, all while being very much a homebody.  He could build or fix anything for the home from scratch, often with impressive detail.  He enjoyed desserts and Italian music.  He was a devoted husband and dedicated father.  He was a thoughtful brother, and caring and affectionate uncle who loved talking to and being with his family.  

Friends and family will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (412-678-6177) on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10:00am until 12:00pm.  A mass of Christian burial will follow at St. Angela Merici church, 1640 Fawcett Avenue, White Oak, PA 15131 at 12:30pm. Entombment will follow.

Jennie M. Quintana, 83 of Glassport passed away May 27, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones. She is the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Palmer and wife of the late Abelardo “Bill” Quintana.  She is survived by her daughter Theresa (Dan) Mawritz; grandchildren Jared Edwards, Tara Braddock, Alina Mawritz and Daniel Mawritz; great grandson Blake Edwards; brother Eugene (Leah) Palmer; sister Eileen Papson; also nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.  Jennie was a member of St. Patrick's Parish; where she served as a eucharistic minister, funeral lector, and was an active member of the cursillo and bible study group for 13 years.  Jennie spent her final years at Senior Care Plaza in McKeesport. She had a rich and fulfilling life and was very happy there. She had many friends and participated in all the activities. Friends and family will be received at Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport, Thurs. from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9.  A funeral mass will be held Fri. 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Parish in McKeesport. Entombment following at New St. Joseph Cemetery.

He was a retired Director of Operations for Intercity Motor Freight and had previously taught school and worked for the former G.C. Murphy Co.

Margaret Elizabeth (Wargo) Matta, 94, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Versailles, passed away on Friday, May  24, 2019. She joins her husband, the late Joseph D. Matta, Sr, who passed away July 18, 2007. Margaret was born  March 4, 1925 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Dobransky) Wargo. She was an amazing person who truly lived for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved us all unconditionally and made each of us feel special and important. She will be remembered as a wonderfully creative and dedicated homemaker who loved her family deeply and gave so much of herself to everyone she cared about. During WWII, she aided the war effort by working at the US Steel Christy Park Works in McKeesport that were converted to produce Ammunition Shells. She was a member of St. Patrick Parish in Christy Park.
