Laura Louise Walker
Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | October 01, 2025

Laura Louise Walker, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 26, 2025. She was born in McKeesport, PA, on March 13, 1953, to the late Robert Walker and Viola (Kelly) Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rev. Robert W. Anderson, and her sister-in-law, Delores (Leggett) Anderson.
Laura was a graduate of McKeesport Area High School and obtained a nursing degree from Community College of Allegheny County.
She worked as a registered nurse for 35 years. She held various positions throughout the field, starting at Children's Hospital, working with babies in the neonatal intensive care unit, to the operating rooms of Presby, McKeesport, and Shadyside Hospital, and various other positions. She retired from UPMC East in Monroeville in 2016.
Laura also had a heart for ministry and outreach to others and studied to become a licensed ordained minister. Inspired by the verse Matthew 25:40, she implemented a program called "Feed My Sheep," where she would feed over 100 homeless people on a regular basis.
Through her time as a member of Greater Works Outreach, she was part of the church choir and praise and worship team. She also had the opportunity to work as a missionary to Haiti, where they have a girls' orphanage, and used her medical skills to provide help during the 2010 earthquake.
Laura was a woman of vision and creativity. One of her last projects, “Empowering Creations,” was born from her experiences in home health care. She sought to design adaptive, stylish clothing for people with disabilities that honored both dignity and ease of care.
Laura cherished family gatherings and reunions, where the family was together sharing laughs, stories, and warm hugs. She also loved to travel and instilled a love for exploring from the time Monica was a young child, and continued to foster it throughout her years. She most loved being a mom and grandmother, "grammy," and loved her granddaughter, whom she affectionately called "boobahs", endlessly.
Laura’s legacy is one of faith, compassion, and love. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Monica, her beloved granddaughter, Amoni, siblings Barbara (Wendell), Nathaniel, Frank (Annie), and Bobby (Tonie), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. She will be remembered for her generosity, her laughter, her fierceness, and the countless lives she touched.
