Dale R. Matthews, age 69, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was born December 29, 1947, in Wilkinsburg, a son of the late David E. and Leola “Marie” Matthews. He was a long-time member of the Norwin Alliance Church in North Huntingdon. He worked as a master stater winder at Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh for over 21 years before going onto work at Curtis Wright in Cheswick for the next 18 years before retiring. He was a member of the Pitcairn and Ligonier Guns Clubs, the church dart league, and the Westinghouse Bowling Team. He coached softball for PAL and loved hunting and fishing, as well as watching Penn State Football and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers. He is survived by his wife of over 48 years Denise “De” (Thompson) Matthews, daughters Dayna Matthews Ceresa and Dianna Matthews both of Pitcairn; Susan Ashley Baden and Sara Jane Matz who he considered grandchildren; brothers David “Joel” (Joann) Matthews of Ligonier and Daniel “Danny” (Marlene) Matthews of Level Green; and his two dogs Turner and Walle.

She was born December 22, 1938 in East Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Sophie (Perello) Eckenrod. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon. She worked for over 20 years in housekeeping at the Briarcliff Pavilion in North Huntingdon before retiring. She is survived by her son Eric (Lisa) Stefancis of Wendel; granddaughter Brittney Stefancis; brother Lawrence (Renee) Eckenrod of East McKeesport; and nieces and nephews. Services are private.

Robert Ross Mowry, 91, of Irwin, died Sunday October 15, 2017. He was born November 9, 1925 in Irwin, a son of the late Glenn and Grace (Bell) Mowry. He was a retired general foreman for Westinghouse Airbrake Co., Wilmerding, and a member of American Legion Post 359 and L.O.O.M., Lodge 236, both of Irwin. Bob was a Navy veteran of WWII and was recently recognized by the Tribune Review for being one of the last remaining survivors of an explosion on the USS Turner off the coast of New Jersey that killed 136 sailors in January of 1944. The cause of the explosion was never solved. He is survived by his wife Anne S. (Pertzog) Mowry; his children Bea (Tom) Airgood of Penn Hills, Robert R. (Jerilyn) Mowry of Kittanning, and Pam (Don) Wise of CA; grandchildren Robbie, Steve, Nikki, Matthew S. Mowry, Christina, Jennifer, and Chris; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brothers Gene Mowry of Plum and Sam Gibson of NC; also nieces and nephews.

Peter Yacko, age 89, a resident of Concordia, Cabot, formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017. He was born April 23, 1928 in East McKeesport, a son of the late Anthony and Martha (Hrynik) Yacko. He was a former active member of the Norwin Alliance Church, North Huntingdon, a former member of Men’s Prayer Fellowship, and went on to volunteer at the Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot. He attended Nyack College in Nyack, New York and graduated from St. Paul Bible College, St. Paul, Minnesota. Upon graduation he served as a missionary with Village Mission in Nebraska and Missouri. Peter owned the Yacko Construction Company for many years where he built and remodeled churches across West Pennsylvania. He retired as the Safety Maintenance Supervisor at Precise Metals and Plastics in North Versailles.

He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and was a retired physics teacher for Woodland Hills High School. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, North Huntingdon and loved all outdoor activities especially fishing, hunting, trapping, and golfing with a special group of friends who called themselves the “good guys”. Larry was an army veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He is survived by his loving wife of forty years Kathleen M. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a retired foreman for U.S. Steel, Vandergrift, and an Army Veteran of WWII participating in the Normandy invasion and the European Theater. Arlene was a member of Greater Works Outreach, Monroeville, where she was a part of the GAP ministry and a spiritual mother to many. She was the former host of Cornerstone Ministries Television, At Home With Arlene Williams, and also a co-host of the Signs and Wonders segment of the television show Real Life at CTV. Arlene had a great love for people and was loved by many. She was an avid Pirates fan.
