Sherman David Howard III, age 50, of Elizabeth, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020. He graduated as valedictorian from Lompoc High School in 1987, went on to gain his private pilot’s license, and became a member of the Local Painters and Allied Trades Union No. 479. Sherman “Dave” had a love for cooking and was a true free spirit. He enjoyed life, hanging out with friends, loved music and was a true Grateful Dead fan. Dave loved his family and he adored his beautiful daughter, Zoey. He is survived by daughter, Zoey Vida; mother, Anna (Glenn) Kunig; father, Sherman David (Lynn) Howard, Jr.; brothers, Michael (Christie) Howard, Alex (Mackenzie) Kunig and Allen Rappuhn; sister, Tracy (Chris) Leigh; Zoey’s grandparents, Paul and Michelle Vida; Aunt Fran, Aunt Delores, Aunt Patty and Uncle Jimbo; also, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the mother of his child, Christine Vida, who was the love of his life. A private ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family. Regina K. Halley, age 97, of Greensburg, formerly of Elizabeth Twp. and McKeesport, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at St. Anne Home in Greensburg. She was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp. Born February 13, 1923 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Cecelia (Kalicicki) Klune and wife of the late Frank A. Halley. She is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Henderson of Moundsville, WV; grandson, Brian (Julie) Henderson of Columbus, OH; great-grandsons, Lucas and Zachary Henderson; niece, Sally Shaw Beatty of Wexford; nephew, Robert Shaw of Silver Spring, MD; several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Elinor Shaw. There is no visitation. Mass and burial are private. Arrangements by the Paul E. Kenneth P. Steiner, 80, of West Mifflin, passed away on October 18, 2020, at home.

Born in Homestead, PA on August 31, 1940, he was the son of the late Jesse & Mildred (Richards) Steiner. Ken was a retired heavy equipment operator for West Mifflin Boro and was also retired from Spinello LTD. in Aliquippa, where he manufactured underground pipe.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Duquesne, of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish.

He enjoyed planting flowers, cutting grass and repairing clocks. Ken was a very talented wood carver; he carved a large carousel horse, a mountain lion and a 7 ft. Indian.

He also carved many Disney characters & clocks. He was called “Mr. Fix-It” because he could fix anything. Ken and his wife spent many hours riding on the bike trail in the area and Ohiopyle and enjoyed spending time at his cabin.

Harry Steven Davis, 64, was born on November 6, 1955, to the late Harry Morton and Fannie Dent Davis in Duquesne, PA. Harry passed away on October 9, 2020, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tina Rodgers Davis, and siblings, William, Michael, and Harold Davis.  

Harry was affectionately known as “Stevie” and “Stevie Mort,” who graduated from Duquesne High School. He enjoyed spending his time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Harry is survived by his son, Maurice Demery of Duquesne, PA; six grandchildren, Mariah Demery, Diamond Travillion, Trinity Miller, Maurice Demery, Jr., Daijeonna Short, Monique Demery; three sisters, Irene Sims of Bethel Park, Audrey Morton Weems of Pittsburgh, Virginia  Davis of Duquesne; brother, Edward Henderson of Aliquippa, Earl  Davis of Duquesne; uncle, George Dent of GA; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

George “Bud” R. McIndoe Jr.

George “Bud” R. McIndoe Jr., age 97, of Irwin, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020. He was born August 23, 1923 in McKeesport, a son of the late George Sr. and Catherine McIndoe. He was a World War II veteran fighter pilot in the Army Air Corp and flew the P47 Thunderbolt airplane in 13 sorties over Germany as part of the 371st Fighter Group, 405 Squadron.

After returning from the war, he worked his entire career for Bettis Atomic Nuclear Power Plant where he was on the forefront of Ultrasonic testing of hairline cracks in stem generation tubes in nuclear submarines. Because of his work, he was requested to preform ultrasonic inspections aboard the Nautilus submarine and the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier. Before retiring, he received the Engineering Achievement Award for developing a unique ultrasonic testing device. He built his home on the family homestead in 1955 on Mosside Blvd in Monroeville next door to his mother "Teenie" McIndoe and his sister Jean Bendorf.

Bud and Audrey moved from Monroeville and lived in North Huntingdon from 1976.

Phyllis Evelyn (Lucas) Farneth

Phyllis Evelyn (Lucas) Farneth, 93, of Greensburg, formerly of Plum Borough, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at the Greensburg campus of Redstone Highlands Senior Care. Phyllis was born September 18, 1927, in Coraopolis, Pa., the first of four children to Stanley and Lula Lucas. After growing up in Parnassus, Pa. and graduating from New Kensington High School, Phyllis worked as a stenographer and savings-and-loan associate. She married Robert Lester Farneth (“Bob”) in 1949 and together they had four children, living for over 50 years in a small community on Logan's Ferry Hill, Plum Borough, on land that had been in the Farneth family for generations. Phyllis was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in New Kensington, where she held various administrative posts, taught Sunday School, led women’s groups, founded and maintained the library, and sang alto in the choir for decades. Phyllis also served as a teacher’s aide and librarian at Logan’s Ferry Elementary School and worked for many years at the Care Enough card shop in New Kensington.

She enjoyed bridge club, sewing, reading, playing the piano, singing, and working puzzles of all kinds. After retirement the couple wintered in Florida and traveled around the country to attend reunions of Bob’s Marine Corps battalion. Phyllis was known for her gentle personality, support of her husband, children, and others in her sphere, and for her quiet diplomacy.

Gary worked for UPMC Mercy in the Environmental Service Department. He enjoyed fishing in his free time.

She was born March 1, 1928 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Charles and Christine (Freund) Haeckler. She was the wife of the late Andrew "Andy" Zobel who passed away May 13, 2020. In 1944 at age 16, Regina worked for the G. C. Murphy Co. Store # 1 in McKeesport as a Soda Fountain Girl. She graduated from McKeesport High School in 1946 and continued with Murphy's until 1963. She went back to Murphy's in 1978 and continued there until her retirement in 1988. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling, dancing, pie baking and playing cards with her neighborhood card club.

Berton D. Overstake, 67, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020 at UPMC East, Monroeville. Born July 15, 1953 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Charles B. Overstake and Lucille (Kaufman) Overstake. Bert was a proud 1975 graduate of Penn State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  While at Penn State, he became a manager for the Penn State Blue Band, which at the time was under the direction of the late Dr. James W. Dunlop.  Bert was proud to have worked with Dr. Dunlop and the Blue Band, and remained a fierce supporter of the Blue Band and all things Penn State.  He went on to attend the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, graduated in 1976 and became a licensed funeral director in 1977.

Darrell M.  Remp, 73, of Port Vue, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at home.  He was born November 25, 1946 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Ernest S. and Julia (Barich) Remp.  Darrell was a member of Mary Mother of God- St. Patrick worship site and a member of the former Holy Trinity Church, where  he and his wife Janice, were married.  Family meant everything to Darrell.  He loved vacationing to the beach with his family , doing yard work and gardening with his grandson Zak and basketball with his granddaughter, Lyla. He was a Blues Brothers impersonator with the late Rick Lieberum and was also known for keeping the groundhogs out of his yard.

Moonis, age 70, of White Oak, died at home on October 11, 2020.  Born October 19, 1949, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Donald C. and Alice Mae (Polak) Burris and wife of the late Edward Moonis.  Alice worked at Baldock Health Care Center, now Transitions Health Care as a Nurse.  She loved to travel, especially on cruises.  A cruise was not complete unless it visited her favorite island in the Caribbean, Passion Island.  She loved to craft, and you could always find her creating something.
