Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 09, 2026

Linda M. Bechtold, age 76, formerly of Wilkinsburg and Swissvale (which she greatly preferred over North Huntingdon), passed away on January 8, 2026 at her home. She was born on March 21, 1949 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Robert Moran Sr. and Mary Alder Moran. Linda graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in the Class of 1967. She made many memories during this time with her "Burg Buddies". Linda went on to fulfill a career as a beautician with Coiffures 700 Salon in Wilkinsburg, before settling into her role as a homemaker. Linda was very artistic. She enjoyed card-making, crocheting, and painting. She loved fashion, gardening, and watching the QVC channel. Linda took pride in her Irish heritage and even had an Irish tattoo. She was a great cook and was known for her delicious meat loaf. Most of all, Linda cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. She could always be found at their sporting events, where she was affectionately known by everyone as "Nay-Nay". In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Edward "Butch" Bechtold (who was also her 7th grade sweetheart), and one sister, Mary O'Leary (husband Robert). She is survived by two daughters, Amy Hileman (husband Michael) and Kristy Champion (Jason Cheripka), one brother, Robert Moran Jr. (wife Annie), one sister, Donna Breitkreutz (late husband Robert), and grandchildren, Brennan, Ryan, Karsyn, and Reegan. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, on Sunday from 2 to 7 PM. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh. www.shirleyfuneralhome.com
