Mary (Maharovchak) Goda, age 92, of Forward Twp. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Jefferson Hospital surrounded by her beloved family. Born August 10, 1930 in Clairton, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Stoyak) Maharovchak. In 1931, Mary and her mother left the United States and went to Konus, Slovakia where she spent 16 years. In 1947, she and her mother returned to the United States and Clairton on the Queen Mary via Ellis Island. She worked at Faye’s Restaurant in Duquesne for four years as a waitress. She met her husband Mike at Kennywood Park on Slovak Day in 1958 and they built a beautiful life together for 60 years. Mary was a member of Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church. She enjoyed telling her family about growing up in Slovakia, singing Slovak songs, and treating everyone to her amazing Slovak cooking and kolachi. Mary loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. She had a heart of gold and was always happy to help anyone.

Jill Elizabeth Coates, 57, of North Irwin, residing in Coulter passed away, October 5, 2022 at Forbes Regional Hospital. She was born June 9, 1965 in Duquesne, a daughter of the late Charles Lester and Shirley Amardea Coates. Jill enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing and her cat Cami. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David and a sister Christine. She is survived her husband Dennis R. Miller, a brother Jay Coates, sister in law, Joyce Coates. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home on Saturday 3-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday at noon in the funeral home chapel followed by interment in Coulter Cemetery. She was born July 20, 1952 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret (Tkatch) Rusinko. Shirley was a member of Mary, Mother of God - St. Mary Czestochowa Church, McKeesport. She was also a member of the Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce and was a volunteer for Relay for Life. Shirley and Larry loved to travel.Their most memorable trip was to Italy in 2014.

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Joan Sophia Yurkov, 85, of North Huntingdon, PA, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2022.  Joan was born to Martin and Sophia Yurko on November 22, 1936, in North Braddock, PA. She grew  up surrounded by many cousins and her dedicate canine companion, Snooty.  Joan was a graduate of Scott High School. After graduation, she joined Bell Telephone as a telephone operator for several years prior to marrying her loving husband, Zolton Emil Yurkov, on October 23, 1965.  Joan loved animals, especially dogs. She was an enthusiastic crafter, football fan, reader, and history buff. Above all, her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a dedicated Girl Scout leader and spent countless hours attending sports practices and games of her children and grandchildren. Joan enjoyed many adventures and often traveled the United States with her family and high school best friends. Joan was a longstanding member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Legion of Mary. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon, PA, since 1965 and sang in St. Agnes adult choir for over 30 years. Joan is survived by her two daughters, Carol Ann Spisso and Donna Marie Kolat, and her five grandchildren: Mara Spisso DeCapito (Philip), Marco Spisso, Nicholas Kolat (Natalie), Abra Spisso Podoliak (Jon), and Erin Kolat (Ray Munden). All of whom loved and cherished her deeply.

Rohal, 74, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022 at Forbes Regional Hospital.  She was born, April 18, 1948 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Lester and Helen (Pottinger) Alexander.  Prior to her retirement, Diane was a social worker for the City of McKeesport Welfare Office.  She enjoyed gardening, reading, trips to the Outer Banks and  spending time with her family.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Walter J. Kustra

Walter J. Kustra, 93, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022 peacefully at home.  He was born June 16, 1929 in McKeesport, a son of the late Anthony and Mary Ann Kustra.  Prior to his retirement, Walter was a pattern maker for US Steel, National Tube Works and when the department closed he transferred to the carpenter shop with a total of 35 years of service.  

He was a graduate of McKeesport High School Class of '48 where he was a WPIAL All State Guard and class president.  Walter was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War and a  member of St. Agnes Parish and P.N.A. McKeesport Lodge 352.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, growing his garden and spending time at his log cabin hunting camp that he and his son built.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou (Macik) Kustra; brother, John Kustra; and sister, Stella Ruccio.  He is survived by his loving children, Ronald Kustra; daughters, Roberta Hoffmann and Lisa Kustra; brother, Albert Kustra; sisters, Irene Squires, Eleanor Todaro; grandchildren, Anthony and Nicole.  Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA  15642.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 1 p.m. in St. Agnes Church.  Interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, N. Richard T. “Chicken” Prakop, age 84, of Duquesne, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022, at home. Born in Duquesne on August 29, 1938, he was the son of the late John and Barbara (Bornyik) Prakop. He was a retired machinist from Mesta Machine, a member of the Pine Run Boat Club, and a member of the Croatian Club of Duquesne. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Steven (Rita) Babyak of Forest Hills, Jerry (Kathleen) Babyak of Acme, PA, Les (Donna) Babyak of Shaler Twp., and Bonnie (Carl) Begovich of Florida. He is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Marion (Frank) Clark, William (Agnes) Prakop, Emma (Stephen) Babyak, Irene (Edward “Rusty”) Wilmans and John (Louise) Prakop. Salomea "Sally" Ann  Prailey, 87, of Boston, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at home. She was born August 22, 1935 in Boston and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine (Martinaitis) Wroblewski Snyder. She was the wife of the late Frederick R. Prailey who passed away February 26, 2010. They were married for 56 years. Sally was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Patrick Church in Christy Park. She was an Administrative Assistant to the District Manager at the former J.C. Penny Co. in the Eastland Mall, She worked there from 1967 to 1997. She had previously worked at McKeesport AAA, Helmsteder's, and Balsamo's. Sally was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent homemaker and loved to cook, bake, and make candy. She was also a seamstress and made clothes for herself, her daughter and even made miniature Barbie Doll clothing. She loved her cats, reading, gardening and watching the history and educational channels. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, crossword puzzles and motorcycling with her husband. She was quick witted, ornery, and extremely strong willed. She was an impeccable dresser and loved sweets and chocolate. Sally and Fred loved to travel and were once labeled "The Travel Couple" by the former McKeesport Daily News.

Nancy Shuber, 78, of North Huntingdon, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.  She was born October 5, 1943 in Plum, a daughter of the late Morris and Minnie Machen.  Prior to her retirement, Nancy worked for Monsour Hospital and later became an administrative assistant for family practice residency at Shadyside Hospital and after retirement worked at the family business, Shuber Service.  She was a member of Herminie Methodist Church and enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas and visiting the casinos and her Thursday night Whiskey and cookies with her cousin, Jen.  Nancy was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and canine companion, Robin.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Shuber; daughter, Barbara Shuber Eiser; brother, Robert; sister, Rose "Pat" George; half-sister, Grace Seemuth; and half-brother, Alan.  She is survived by her son, Stephen Shuber and his wife, Renee; two granddaughters, Anna and Megan; and brother, Bobby Machen.  Friends will be received from 6-8  p.m. on Thursday and 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the James W.
