LaWanda (McDonald/Muscante) Krauth . . . LaWanda's kitchen is now closed!  Born June 22, 1935 in Clairton, Pa went to sleep on April 13, 2021.  Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Emma McDonald, sister Emma Mae Gilligan and husband Dominic A. Muscante.  Also preceded in death by beloved husband, caretaker and best friend, Robert Krauth.  She is survived by her 7 children: Tammy Muscante, Cathy (David) Jay, Falco A. (Gina) Muscante, Anthony Muscante, Anna (the late George) Raine, Susan (Eddy) Medina and Dominic (the late Judy) Muscante; 9 Grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One day viewing at Wojciechowski Funeral Home located in Glassport on Saturday, April 17, from 2 to 5.  Immediately following viewing, a memorial service will be held at the River City Church, formerly known as Glassport Assembly of God.  A private burial at Round Hill Cemetery at a later date.  LaWanda's wishes were for no flowers.  The family suggests that a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.  Thank You!

Riddlebaugh, 73, of West Mifflin, died April 13, 2021.  She is the daughter of the late Harold and Louise Cutshall and beloved wife of the late Harry Riddlebaugh.  Joni is survived by her step daughter Kimberly (Dave) Hritz; siblings Harold (the late Lynne) Cutshall, Dolores (Eugene) Hamar and Michael (Heather) Cutshall; also nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by sisters Carol Murphy, Nancy Persky and Linda Cutshall.  Joni was retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Dept. of Welfare.  Funeral arrangements by Teichart-Gracan Funeral Home, Duquesne.

 


James Dee Giles

James Dee Giles, 83, of Mint Hill, N.C., died Monday, April 5, 2021, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Jim was born and raised in McKeesport, Pa., on August 29, 1937 and was the son of James Robert and Mary Virginia Giles. Jim was one of three children including his brother Robert and sister Judy. Jim married his wife Patti on September 22, 1978 in Willowick, OH. They later moved to Charlotte, N.C., in 1981.

Jim began his career with Celli-Flynn Architects, and was a key figure in the design of the original swimming pool with its below-ground viewing window at the McKeesport Senior High School, as well as the cafeteria design at Francis McClure School. He went on to work for Bruce Miller and Associates before moving to Ohio and then on to North Carolina.

There he worked on several notable projects for the state government and the University of North Carolina school system. Some of the notable projects included various work on: North Carolina State University, Appalachian State and UNC-Charlotte campuses. Throughout his career Jim was an active member in the A.S.H.R.A.E. chapter of NC. Jim retired from United Engineering Group, Inc./McKim & Creed in 2007. Jim continued to be a consultant in his retirement.

Rosemary was the wife of the late Milan John Kesser, Sr., who passed away in 1972 and the late James Gerondites, who passed away in 1987.  She was a member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon and was also a member of The Catholic Daughters. She worked for Bell Telephone in her younger days and would later go on to work as a home health aide for many years.  She was also a member of AARP. Rosemary was known for her baking of cakes for all occasions and her beautiful cake decorating skills.

He participated in action against the enemy on Iwo Jima from February 19, 1945 to March 16, 1945. He re-enlisted after WWII and served in the Korean War.

Raymond C. Merisko, of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2021, and entered the gates of Heaven. He was born on November 4, 1931 in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Rose (Bilski) Merisko. He loved his family; father of James (Cheryl) Merisko of Illinois, Daniel Merisko of Butler, PA and Dianne (Keith) Kuzma of Jefferson Hills, PA; grandfather to Samantha and Joshua Merisko, Dustin Martin, Kaley and Corey Kuzma; great grandfather to Sophia Gonzales.

Ray was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years as a carrier and manager,and served 11 1/2 years in the Naval Reserves. He was the first Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Name Church in Duquesne, member of the Men’s Club and taught in the CCD program for 17 years. He proudly served as Grand Knight with the Duquesne-West Mifflin Knights of Columbus Council #4210, was a coach for Duquesne Little League for 12 years, enjoyed golf, bowling and fishing.

He was born November 18, 1930 in East McKeesport, a son of the late Gerald and Louise (Raymer) Hodder and was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years Marjorie (Thomas) Hodder, a brother Bert Hodder, and his loving sister Virginia Norberg.

Jerry worked as a clerk/yardmaster for the Union Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Beulah Park Methodist Church, a Navy veteran serving in the Korean Conflict, and a lifetime member and past commander of VFW Hilltopper Post 8430, East McKeesport Pa. He was also a former member of the Valley Lodge 714, F. & A.M, and current member of the Duquesne-McKeesport Lodge 731, F. & A.M.

Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time with family especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of the VFW post 781 in Irwin and was a past member of the volunteer Fire Department in North Braddock Ward #1. Loving mother to Carleen (Paul) Gagetta and Dominick Ily. Adoring grandmother to Maria Margaret Gagetta; sister of the late Patrick (surviving Lois) Cortazzo and Helena (Larry) Sobek. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and special friend Dolores Krisher (Sissy).

Margaret was a retired Nurses Aide at Braddock Hospital. Her heart was filled with care and kindness her entire life. Margaret is especially remembered by her homemade spaghetti sauce and pizzelles. Her family will continue traditions for years to come.

Howard (Howie) James Reid, Sr. 74, of Duquesne, was born on September 28, 1946, in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was the beloved son of the late Russell James and Helen Louise (Turner) Reid. Howard departed this life on April 6, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Oakland Pa. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, grandmother, Cora Williams, Aunt Henrietta Reid and two brothers, Donald Reid, Sr. and (Baby) Richard Reid.

Howard graduated from Duquesne High School in 1967. He also graduated from CCAC, South where he focused on photography. He entered the US Army in 1967 and served in the Vietnam War where he received medals and awards.  Howard started his career at US Steel Homestead Works in 1970.  His career there ended 1985 after the mill closed. Howie enjoyed fishing with his friends and family. 

He loved watching sports, especially football and basketball.  He loved western and action movies, and watching the news.  He loved all types of music, especially jazz. He coached Duquesne little league baseball and midget football.  Howie transported many children in the Duquesne school district to and from school on the Blue Pap Pap Van.  Howie was a jitney driver for many years, before opening his own station in 2011, he called it “HOWIE’S CAR SERVICE”.  It remained open until 2020.  Howie enjoyed spending time with the love of his life Rosie Mae, grandchildren/great grandchildren, family and friends.  He loves to tease people and joke around.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife.

Dorothy J. (Wislocky) Dutka, 85, of North Huntingdon, PA, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in Excela Westmoreland Hospital. She was born January 25, 1936, in Trafford, a daughter of the late Stephen Paul and Catherine (Marchand) Wislocky. Dorothy was the last surviving founding member of Calvary Church, where she served as the Accountant/Bookkeeper until her retirement at the age of 77.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John Dutka; also siblings Stephen Paul Wislosky Jr., Natalie Bertola, Marie Dutka, Johnny Wislosky, and David Wislosky. She is survived by her children Gary Dutka and his wife Suzanne of TX, Stephen Dutka of Claridge, Sharon Kaufman and her husband Paul of North Huntingdon, and Wendy Englund and her husband Bob of VA; her grandchildren Chad Hughes, Kelly Dowdrick, Harley, Sierra, Brett and Tanner Hughes, Aaron and Adam Dutka, and Nolan, Marina and Brendon Englund; sisters- and brother-in-law Rose Marie Estrella, Virginia McGechie, and Bill Priatko; and nieces and nephews.

Melvin W. Long, age 65 of Clairton, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.  Born August 14, 1955 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Isaiah and Madeline (Graham) Long.  A graduate of South Allegheny High School and Pittsburgh Diesel Institute, Melvin spent many years  as an over-the-road truck driver.  He was also a former employee with Duquesne Slag and Riverlift in Elizabeth and spent his last ten years employed with LaFarge-Holcim in West Mifflin.  In his spare time, Melvin enjoyed fishing, watching his grandchildren play sports (especially football), attending parades watching his granddaughter as a majorette, and especially hosting Sunday family dinners.  He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, stepfather, brother, uncle, and a great friend.  Melvin is survived by his wife of thirty years Judith (Piasente) Long; his daughter Shayla of North Carolina; his stepchildren Randall (Ruth) Koontz of Donora, the late Anthony (Nicole) Koontz of Clairton, Christopher (Brenda) Koontz of Mt. Pleasant, and Brian (the late Erin) Koontz of Clairton; his siblings Marcella Kelton, Allen (Chris) Long, Glenda (Ben) Rainey, Ava Long, Angela (Yvonne) Long Beck, and Elaine Long; his grandchildren Krista, Bryson, Taafe, Morgan, and Taylor Koontz and Aaixa, Justen, Aiyah, Missouri, Furlando, and Oliviyah Long; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  Besides his stepson and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers David Long, James Long, Vincent Long, and Isaiah "Jake" Long, Jr..

He was a master gardener and always had a beautiful, organic vegetable garden in his yard and often shared his produce with family and friends. He is survived his sons, Darrell (Julie) Marraccini of Yeringyon, NV and Angelo J. William E. Duvall died Feb. 25, 2021 at the White Oak Manor in Charlotte, NC. Born May 13, 1930 with his twin brother Robert in Pitcairn, PA, Bill was the son of the late Joseph R. and Virginia (Schrenghost) Duvall. He graduated from Pitcairn High School in 1948, served in the US Army during the Korean War and graduated from Westminster College in 1958 with a Bachelors Degree in Economics. Bill worked most of his career in the Treasury Dept of US Steel. He was a talented shortstop for US Army baseball teams in Europe and many semi-pro teams in Western PA. During his four years at Westminster College, Bill played in every inning of every game and in 1958 he co-captained Westminster to the PA State Championship. The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Pye Traynor offered Bill a contract to play for the Pirates minor league team in Tampa Bay, but Bill left professional baseball to pursue his family interests and professional career. In 2002, Bill and his brother Bob were inducted into the PA East Boros Sports Hall of Fame. Bill was an avid tennis player and golfer. After moving to Charlotte, NC, to be near his daughter and grandsons, he worked at the Ballantyne Resort golf course during many of his retirement years. Bill was married for 64 years to Gladys Thompson, who predeceased him in 2020. He is survived by his daughter Renee (Kenneth Jr.) Bramlett; grandsons James and Samuel Bramlett; brother Robert (Mary Catherine) Duvall; brother-in-law Clifford (Patti) Thompson; nephews Robert (Ann) Duvall, David (Lori) Duvall & Clifford (Tracy) Thompson and niece Jennifer (Jerry) Yoder.   Lynn Kocur, 68, passed away April 2, 2021 in Warminster, PA, formerly of West Mifflin, PA.  She was born on September 2, 1952 in McKeesport, PA  She is the daughter of the late John and Rose (Bacsi) Simo and beloved wife of the late Ernest Kocur.  Lynn is survived by her son John (Renee) Kocur; grandchildren Ryan and Avery and sister Sandra (Erwin) Vettel.  Lynn worked as a secretary at Bettis and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Duquesne.  Friends will be received at Teichart-Gracan Funeral Home, Duquesne, on Friday from 10 am to Noon, at which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor John Gropp.  Interment following Jefferson Memorial Park.

James Myers, 84, of Irwin, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his home.  He was born May 13, 1936 in Jeannette, a son of the late James F. and Lois (Raling) Myers.  Prior to his retirement, Jim was a construction supervisor and a farmer which he did all his life.  He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Westmoreland County Farm Bureau.  He is survived by his loving wife, Aileen Altimore Myers; stepsons, Will and Sean Faulkner; brother, Barry Myers and his wife, Wanda; and several nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Darryl D. Granata Sr., age 74, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021. He was born September 29, 1946 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Salvatore and Margaret Granata. He was a longtime member of St. Agnes, and then the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Irwin.

He worked for over 25 years as a loan office at Union National Bank before working the rest of his career at Hamilton Buick in finance, sales and as inventory manager before retiring.

Richard "Dick" Keith Pealstrom, 93, passed away on Tuesday March 30, 2021. He was born in Holland, Michigan on October 11, 1927, but spent the majority of his childhood in Rock Island, Illinois where he graduated from Rock Island Senior High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy in September 1945. He graduated from two Navy radio communications schools and served as a communication technician in radio intelligence both on the island of Guam and at the Naval Intelligence Headquarters in Washington, DC, until his discharge in October, 1948.

After his service, he attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where he received a BS degree in mathematics and worked as an Admission counselor at the University until his graduation. He then travelled to Wilmerding, PA, where he started working at the Westinghouse Air Brake Company (WABCO). It was here that he met his wife of 65 years, Lois “Audrey” Pealstrom, on a blind date. He retired from WABCO after 35 years as Manager, Advertising & Sales Promotion. He was well known for his creative ad campaign for painting the COBRA brake shoes red, and the Secret Order of the Red Cobra for his sales team.

While employed, he also served on the Board of Directors of the WABCO Federal Credit Union and was elected President of the Association of Railway Advertising Managers, an international organization. Upon retirement, he continued to stay active. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the George Westinghouse Museum Foundation and served in several offices for the twenty years of its existence.

He was also a founding elder of the West Hempfield Presbyterian Church, where he was the Chairman of the Building Committee for their first edifice. In recent years, he was able to discuss his Navy work and became a member of the US Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association. Dick and Audrey shared a love of history by volunteering at the Westmoreland County Historical Society where they assisted in organizing and cataloging collections.

In his spare time, he was an avid golfer (shooting his age at age 88), a creative and talented wood-worker, an enthusiastic collector of eagle figurines, and a voracious reader with a love of learning. His family always looked forward to his unique homemade birthday cards and Christmas gifts.

He was a teacher, dean, and principal for the Pittsburgh Public Schools, most recently Overbrook Elementary and he retired from Spring Garden Elementary. He was active in the Baldwin-Whitehall community in the Baldwin Manor Association, local speaker for the Whitehall library on historical topics, volunteered at the election polls and founded the Whitehall Aviation Modeler Associations. He authored 3 books on aviation aircraft and was an avid photographer who built model airplanes and enjoyed aviation photography.

She worked for White Star Laundry and J & L Mill in Christy Park. She was a long time employee of McKeesport Hospital as a Messenger Escort and was a Union Steward for Local 205.
