Arlene Gland Elias, 82, of White Oak, died Friday, May 17, 2019.  Born in the Bronx, NY on July 8, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Max and Ethel Weintraub Gland.  She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Sherman E. Elias, and by daughters, Ruth (Jacob) Gordon of Seattle, WA and Mimi (Mitch) Maizlech of Pittsburgh.  She was The Nana to Naomi (Aryeh) Ho, Aaron Gordon, Shui Maizlech, Sammy Maizlech, Sarah Baila Gordon, and the late David Menachem Gordon.  Great grandmother of Meir Ho and Dovid Simcha Ho, she is also survived by sisters, Claire Iszauk of McKeesport and Rosalie Opall of Uniontown.  A service will be held Monday, May 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 with Rabbi Moshe Russell officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Gemilas Chesed Cemetery.  The family suggests contributions to the Congregation Gemilas Chesed, 1400 Summit Street, White Oak, PA  15131.

Benny Norris, 92, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, departed this life on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in AHN Jefferson Hospital.

He was born March 27, 1927 in Ensley, AL, son of the late Yancey Norris, Sr. and Rose Watson Norris Talley.  Benny was also preceded in death by siblings, Yancey Norris, Jr., Martha Norris-Hudson, Nelson Norris, and grandson, Russell Gallaway.

He was a member of Morning Start Baptist Church of Clairton and retired from US Steel.  Benny was also a proud United States Army veteran, who served during World War II. 

Surviving are his wife, Bessie Jean Norris of Pittsburgh; three children, Sandra (Roger) Norris-Stone of Lithonia, GA, Benny Norris, Jr. of Cleveland, OH, Alysa Norris-Hammons of San Francisco, CA; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

On May 15, 2019 the Lord swiftly and suddenly came and took Ryan Daniel Malady, age 43, of Gibsonia, to be with Him in Heaven.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Dana Giugliano Malady and his precious children Michael, Juliana, and Mia.  Also survived by his parents, Sue (Sorg) and Dan Malady, his loving mother & father in-law Debbie (Pampena) and Tony Giugliano, brother in-law Anthony (Laura McCauley) Giugliano, niece and nephew Annabelle & Liam Giugliano and the many others who have loved him and will miss him.

Ryan had a special devotion and relationship with God and was a thoughtful husband and wonderful family man, who was always involved in the needs and activities of his children.  Ryan worked in medical sales for many years, where he loved having the opportunity to help so many people.  He loved golf, skiing at Hidden Valley with his family, running, and enjoyed all sports, especially the Steelers.  Ryan remained friends with his high school and college buddies and the people he met always appreciated his sense of humor, kindness and concern for others.

Frankie was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, a graduate of the McKeesport Area High School, and a graduate of Triangle Tech, where he earned an Associate degree; He also proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era.  Frankie had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed traveling and gardening--both vegetables and flowers, worked as a jitney driver, and also served as an Advocate for Narcotic Anonymous at the Harrison Village Recreation Center.  Frank worked as a Laundry Supervisor for VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Highland Drive.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leslie C. Truesdale of McKeesport;  daughter, Sharese N. Joan Kemp Beissel passed away on May 7, 2019, at the age of 89. A lifelong resident of Elizabeth Township, she was born January 18, 1930, to the late Thomas and Mary Moore Dierker Kemp. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Donald E. Beissel, her twin sister, Jean Matezik, and her brother, Thomas Kemp. She is survived by her two daughters, Vickee Altman, and her husband Gary, of Uniontown, and Wendee Lindsey and her husband Randy of Elizabeth Township and her three grandchildren, Alan Lindsey, and wife Brittany, of Liberty Boro, Stephanie Altman of Raleigh, NC., and Abigail Altman of Baltimore, MD. 

She graduated from Clairton High School in 1947 and attended the Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained her license as a registered nurse. She completed her nursing education with a BSN from California University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a registered nurse at the McKeesport Hospital in the premature infant nursery, but perhaps is best remembered for her many years as a school nurse for the Elizabeth-Forward School District.

She and her husband Don enjoyed retirement by hosting pig roasts for their family and friends at their backyard swimming pool and by traveling throughout North America in their motor home, sometimes even wintering in southern climates. They also traveled to such places as Hawaii, Italy, England, Mexico and the Caribbean. A highlight was sailing through the Panama Canal.

Family and friends will be received at the S.M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 432 N. 6thStreet, Clairton, PA, 15025, on Friday, May 10, from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM, a short memorial service will be held at 7:30pm with a repose to follow at the LochMon Tavern, 2510 Lincoln Boulevard, Elizabeth, PA., 15037. Andre Randolph Hopkins was born on November 8, 1975, in McKeesport, PA.  He was the eldest of four sons born to the late Juanita C. Hopkins Edmond.  He was called home on Friday, May 3, 2019, at UPMC East Hospital in Monroeville, PA.

Andre was born a special needs child and the doctors said he would not live beyond three years. But God saw differently; we were blessed to have him in our lives for 43 years.

Andre had a love for all people.  He attended church and was especially fond of praise & worship.  He loved going to his day program where he enjoyed working with his hands; but not so much in the last six months.

Andre was an organ donor and at least five recipients will be blessed because of his unselfish Act of Love.

Norman J. Vargo, 85, of North Huntingdon passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019 after an amazing life that saw him go from the rugged Steel Valley to various places around the world. Born in Munhall on March 23, 1934, he was the doting husband of 61 years to his sweetheart Audrey (Cawley) Vargo and the loving father of Mark (Sharon) Vargo, of North Huntingdon; Michael (Brian) Vargo, of Mt. Joy; Sandee Vargo, of North Huntingdon and Gary (Taryn) Vargo, of Irwin. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren Christopher (Tiffany) Vargo, of North Huntingdon; Sean (Erin) Vargo, of North Versailles and Tennyson Vargo of Irwin.
 
Stormin’ Norman, as he is known both locally and nationally, was the Sports Editor of The McKeesport Daily News covering six Super Bowls, two world series, four MLB All-Star Games, three NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, two US Opens, three world championship boxing matches, Pitt’s incredible run to the 1976 National Championship, the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, and countless local and scholastic sporting events.

Helen Brulja, age 92 of McKeesport, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 in Southwestern Assisted Care Center in West Mifflin.  Born December 1, 1926 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Ljubic) Brulja.  A member of St. Mark's Parish in Port Vue, Helen worked as a clerk for the Westinghouse Corp., was a member of the CFU Lodge #146 and it's Ladies' and Pensioneers' Clubs, and was also an original member of the Penn-Sembles.  She is survived by nieces and nephews, but was preceded in death by her siblings: Kathern Brulja, Frances Sopko, Ann Bastasic, Mary Sipkovich, and Matt, Bruce, and William Brulja.  Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, 4504 Walnut Street, Versailles, on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 10 AM in St. Mark's Parish, Port Vue Site.  Interment will follow to Sacred Heart Cemetery, Port Vue. Marlene Unrath, 86, of Pleasant Hills, passed away at ManorCare Nursing Home on April 30, 2019.  She was born January 16, 1933, to the late Michael and Mary Repko Visokey.  Marlene is survived by her daughter; Lori Ann Bagley of Pleasant Hills, sons; Patrick “Sonny” (Jane Bowen) Unrath of Port Vue, and Darrell (Laurie) Unrath of Forward Township, grandchildren; Dylan (Helen) Unrath, Michael (Ashley) Unrath, Ryan (Sarah) Cunning, Jesse and Willie, great grandchildren; Ryan Jr., and Nathaniel and many nieces and nephews.  Marlene was preceded in death by her husband William P. Carol Ann Lasich, age 79 of Clairton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  Born November 19, 1939 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Carmine and Mildred (Vuksic) Rodino.  A graduate of Clairton High School and a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Carol's family will remember her as the kindest, gentlest woman and an amazing mother, a fantastic grandmother to her granddaughter, but "GiGi" to many more.  Besides her parents, she joins her husband of 46 years, Robert M. Lasich, who passed away July 2, 2011.  Carol is survived by her children Lori Lasich of Rostraver Twp. and Robert (fiancee Kate E. Dadum) Lasich of Clairton; her granddaughter Isabella Patch; her sister Irene Plesniak of Elizabeth; and also nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
