Joseph R. Matta, Sr., age 94, of Ellicott City, MD, formerly of McKeesport, PA, died May 25, 2019, at Encore At Turf Valley, in Ellicott City, MD. Born April 21, 1925, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Anna (Sekerak) Matta and the husband of the late Edna Mae Matta.

Joseph was a member of Corpus Christi Church. He was retired from Westinghouse, where he worked as an audio-visual communications consult for over 50 years. He was a member of the McKeesport Gun Club, the NRA, and enjoyed faceting stones with his rock club. Joseph was an Army veteran, serving in WWII as an Army Air Corps pilot. He adored spending time with his family, and his children and grandchildren were his whole life.
Joseph is survived by his children, Mary Joanne Matta of McKeesport, Joseph (Debra) Matta Jr. of Ellicott City, MD and Patricia Ann (Kenneth) Buker of Canonsburg; grandchildren, Jeffrey Uhal, Amie (Stephen) Merrill, Melinda (Brandon) Henshaw, Daniel Buker, Brady Matta and Parker Matta; great grandchildren, David and Lucas Merrill; also nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Soltis, George Matta, Irene Fedor, Richard Matta, and Joan Matta.  
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, June 3, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, 10 a.m., in Corpus Christi Church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, in Port Vue.
