Sister M. Assumpta Krotky, age 97 of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer in Elizabeth Twp., passed away in the Motherhouse on Saturday, November 11, 2017.   Born November 26, 1919 in Markusovce, Slovakia, she was a daughter of the late Clement and Cecilia (Cvengros) Krotky.

Edward A. (Stanko) Stankiewicz, Sr., age 96 of North Versailles, died at home on November 10, 2017.  Born March 3, 1921 in the Third Ward District of McKeesport, he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna (Kurkowicz) Stankowicz.  He married Pearl Brooks on November 18, 1942 and they were just 8 days away from celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary.  Eddie began his sports career in 1932 as a kid playing for various local youth teams.  He continued his love of sports playing baseball, basketball, and football at McKeesport High School.  After high school, he served in World War II for the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater.  During his time in the service, he continued to play football, softball, and basketball.  He played football for the champion Danielfield Flyers in Augusta, Georgia, and among his highlights was playing in the 1944 Orange Bowl.  Once home from his military service, he played local football for the undefeated McKeesport Ironmen in the PA Professional Football League in 1947.  Since Eddie had such a love of sports, he thought he should share that love with his community.  He organized and founded the McKeesport Athletic Sports Association (MASA) with Steve “Pee Wee” Lesko.  He coached the 1408 Steelers Little League Baseball team with the late Don Thompson.  Their teams would win 52 straight games and 4 championships.  In the 1970’s he sponsored sports banquets honoring over 400 area athletes.  The sports memorial in Renziehausen Park, named after Merrill W. Granger and Alvin “Al” Duffy was his pride and joy. Eddie was involved with sports for 75 years. Even in recent years, he still sponsored the old time reunion picnics.  In addition to his wife Pearl, Eddie is survived by children, Edward (Libby) Stankiewicz, Jr., and Joanne Stankiewicz; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.  Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church.  Burial and military honors will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery.  Condolences may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com

Dennis J. Filson, Sr., 70, of North Huntingdon, died Friday November 10, 2017 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was born July 25, 1947 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Josiah B. "Mike"and Mabel Utt Filson. Dennis was a draftsman for over 23 years at Tenova Core. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and the former St. Pius Church. He was also a member of The 11th Ward Mens Welfare Association, PNA Lodge 352, The Hartford Heights Fire Hall and The McKeesport Sportsmen's Association . Dennis was a surrogate father to Truck Company Marines, and his bulldog, Spike. He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts Troop 907 and with the former St. Pius Church in McKeesport. Dennis is survived by his wife, Deborah M. Trepanowski Filson of North Huntingdon, sons, Dennis J. Filson, Jr., Casey J. (Kelley), John M. (Janell) and Justin M. (Fiancée Becca) Filson all of McKeesport, Pappap Gumball to 8 grandchildren, Eden, Owen, McKenna, Patrick, Gavin, Jackson, Josie and John Jr., brother, Duane (JoAnne) Filson of Ligonier, Mother-in-law, Betty Trepanowski, sister-in-law, Paula (Jim) Pope, brother-in-law, John (Casi) Trepanowski, nieces and nephews.

Wesley Edwin Schroeder, age 87 of White Oak, died Thursday, November 9, 2017. Betty Lou (Campbell) Baker, 85, of Redstone, North Huntingdon, died Tuesday November 7, 2017. She was born January 24, 1932 in North Irwin, a daughter of the late John C. and Margaret (Wade) Campbell II. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert L. Baker, a sister Peggy Ann Campbell and a brother John C. Campbell III. Betty was a faithful member for over 50 years of the First Presbyterian Church, Irwin. She had worked at the G. C. Murphy company in her younger years but greatly enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. Betty is survived by her children Denise (Tom) Shipley of Sewickley, Diane (Don) Menzies of Beaver Falls, and Greg (Peg) Baker of Gouldsboro; grandchildren Heather, Brad, Bethany, Leanne, Jeffery, Aaron, Tony, Megan; 14 great grandchildren; siblings Sally Clark of North Huntingdon, Cordelia Salsi of Jeannette, and Janice Oliver of TN; and many nieces and nephews.
