Robert Michael Saunders, 67, died January 29, 2020 at home in McKeesport, Pa. Known affectionately as “Banjo,” he was born December 23, 1952 in Homestead, Pa.
He was the son of Taft Saunders and Elizabeth Krista and the third of five children. He was educated in the Homestead Public School System. As a young adult, Banjo would go on to work side jobs such as roofing and other small hands-on jobs. He also enjoyed acting. On April 2, 2002, Banjo married Mathilda Jones of Homestead.
Along with his brother Richard (Rick), he was seen in the movie “Dawn of the Dead,” where he would play a major role as a zombie.
A drummer who loved heavy metal rock, Banjo and his brother Rick joined several bands and performed at many shows and local venues, and was a devoted fan of pro wrestling.

Ronald Paul Leech, age 68 of McKeesport, died suddenly, Thursday, January 30, 2020 at his home. He was born in McKeesport on July 20, 1951 and is the son of Roseltha Sullivan Leech of McKeesport and the late Clyde Leech, Jr. He is a very proud graduate of Penn State University which he loved greatly. He previously resided in New Milford, Connecticut, and spent much time with his grandson picking him up from school and just having fun. He moved back to McKeesport to be with his mother. He retired from Allegheny County as a Certified Public Accountant.

Lula Mae Russ-Lennon, 95, daughter of the late William Henry and Queen Victoria Shaw Russ was born on May 10, 1924 in Council, North Carolina. She departed this life Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Doshia Drakewood and Lily B. Smith; siblings, Viola Beatty, Rather Larkins, Betsy, Willie, Cephus, Raymond, Chester and Joseph (Buster) Russ.
Lula came to Christ at an early age. She joined Kitchen Branch Church, Council, North Carolina and remained faithful there until she moved to Duquesne, Pennsylvania. There she was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church until she met and was married to James D. Lennon for 41 years. She later joined Macedonia Baptist Church.
While at Macedonia, she became a long-time member for over 70 years. She was President of the Pastor’s Aid Society, Kizzie Clemens Guild, and Gospel Chorus. She served as den mother for the Cub Scouts Pack 316. She also volunteered for over 20 years at Kane Regional Center in McKeesport, PA. She loved cooking for her family and baking for friends as well. She was noted for her Pineapple Upside Down and German Chocolate Cakes.

Sharon A. Davin, age 75 of Irwin, died at Forbes Hospital on Wednesday January 29, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 4, 1944 in Wilkinsburg, the daughter of the late John J. and Catherine Longanecker Benedetti. Sharon is survived by her devoted husband Michael J. Davin, loving children; Joseph M. Davin, Valerie (fiancé Timothy Hostert) Davin, grandchildren; Heather and Nichole Marsico, and her 9 beloved golden retrievers. She is the dear sister of Tona Panza.

Frederick C. "Red" Schmidt Sr., age 84, of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital. An Army veteran having served in the Korean War, he was a retired craneman for U.S. Steel National Tube in McKeesport and a former maintenance worker for the West Jefferson Hills School District. He was a member of Pine Run United Methodist Church in Clairton, the Jefferson Lions Club and Jefferson Hills Historical Society. Born September 30, 1935 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Frederick M. and Dorothy (Webb) Schmidt. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce E. (Hoak) Schmidt; son, Frederick C. (Laurie) Schmidt Jr. of Jefferson Hills; grandson, TC (Leann) Ruffing of Floreffe; great-grandchildren, Anna, Grace and Olivia Ruffing; sisters, Dorothy Ault and Mary Hoak, both of Elizabeth Twp.; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Sharon E. Ruffing. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 3-7 PM. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 12 NOON in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Michael Airgood officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
