JAMES ZABELSKY (5521) age 80, of Duquesne, on January 9, 2019. He was a son of the late Leo and Viola (Wrobleski) Zabelsky. Jim started his career in transportation with Duquesne Motor Coach, then Bamford Bus Company, and retiring as a supervisor from the Port Authority of Allegheny County. He was a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish, Duquesne- West Mifflin Knights of Columbus Council #4210. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, skee ball, traveling, and going to restaurants. Beloved husband of Paula (Ametz) Zabelsky for 59 years; father of Jamie (Eric) Mattson of Duquesne, Terri Jo (Martin) Schorr of White Oak; grandfather of Jim Schorr and Hannah Schorr; brother of Mary Lou Zabelsky of Duquesne, Leona (Frank) Sprentz of McKeesport, and the late Leo E. Zabelsky and his surviving spouse, LaVon Zabelsky of Duquesne; also nieces and nephews. Patricia H. "Pat" Beckinger age 77 of Glassport, formerly of Duquesne on January 9, 2019. Beloved wife of Jhon Beckinger; loving daughter of Norman and Adelaide (Menzie) Hart who preceded her in death; treasured sister of Micki Hart Faller of Shadyside. Pat received her bachelors degree from the University of Pittsburgh and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish in Duquesne where she taught at Duquesne Catholic School for many years. Her sixth grade social studies class won a national contest with an essay on Space Bill of Rights. The prize was a visit from an astronaut, Eugene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon. Pat previously taught at St. Keiran's School in Lawrenceville and St. Sebastian's School in the North Hills. Pat was very devout in her faith and served as Eucharistic minister and lector at St. Joseph Church and at Christ of the Light of the World Parish. This enabled many people to stay connected to their church through her efforts and dedication. CHARLES D. "JAKE" BARNES age 97 of West Mifflin on December 26, 2018 at home. He was a son of the late Charles C. and Laura (Watkins) Barnes. Jake was retired from US Steel Homestead Works, 100 inch mill with 40 years service. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, West Mifflin. He enjoyed tinkering, gardening and going to flea markets. Jake was a very humble person and believed in treating everyone as he would like to be treated. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp. during WWII. Beloved husband of the late Susan "Sue" (Manns) Barnes for 70 years; father of Terry L. Richard C. Davies age 97, of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully in his home on November 4, 2018 with his wife by his side. Step grandfather of 8: Jane & Evan Fiordeliso, Olivia & Julia Nassif, Anna, Bella, & Gabby Beresnyak, and Matt (Molly) Gordon.Richard was born in London, England on April 19, 1921 to the late Leonard and Edith Mary (Dunsidon) Davies. He was a housing official for the local government in England. In 1940, at the age of 20 years, he volunteered into the Royal Air Force. In 1942, he trained as a wireless operator and in 1943 was trained as an air gunner to get his wings and sergeant stripes. In March of 1943, he was a radio flying instructor. In January of 1945, he was in operation training in Wellingtons Bomber. In June of 1945, he flew with the 135 Squadron Lancaster and flew a total of 1000 hours. In 1946, he was demobilized with the rank of warrant officer. He was a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish. Anna Bosak Fabian, long-time resident of West Mifflin, PA, and member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, passed away on October 8, 2018 at age 106.
Born on February 23, 1912 in Okruhle, Slovakia, Anna was the daughter of the late Andrej and Maria (Biros) Bosak. Following her marriage in 1930 to Michael John Fabian, Anna immigrated to the United States in 1937 and became a naturalized citizen in 1941.
Anna was a very resourceful homemaker, and her talents reached far beyond the duties of running a home. She helped to physically build the home in which she was living at the time of her death, and, being an avid gardener, grew much of the food that graced her table at mealtime.
She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, and reading, but much to the delight of her family, she was a master cook and baker.
