Samantha L. Howard , 49 of Larimer died December 21, 2020 at Forbes Regional Hospital. She was born April 1, 1971 in Tampa Florida and grew up in Greensburg. She was the daughter of the late George Rouse and Carole Knight Rouse. Samantha was formerly employed as a nurse's aide. She was a member of Calvary Church. She loved music, reading, and was a lover of animals. Samantha received an Associate Degree in Medical Administration from Ashworth College. She was also a Mary Kay consultant and worked at West Penn Hospital at Hillman Cancer Center. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her beloved husband Shaun Howard, one son Arthur and one brother George Rouse. There will be no public visitation. Shirley M. Cracolice, 85, of McKeesport, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020. She was born December 23, 1934 in McKeesport and was  the daughter of the late Robert William  and Anna M. Popalo.  She was the wife of the late Matthew Andrew Cracolice, who passed away January 20, 2003. Shirley was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Patrick Worship site. She worked as a realtor with her husband for over 50  years in their business of Century 21 and later Classic Homes . She was also the owner and operator of Shirley Apartments in White Oak.  She enjoyed playing bingo and card games, especially hand and foot, with her friends and family. Playing cards with her siblings and mother were her absolute favorite. She loved her family and her grandchildren.

Theodore J. “Ted” Schleifer III

On December 22, 2020, Theodore J. “Ted” Schleifer III, age 75, of North Braddock, received eternal life and was reunited with his late parents, Theodore J. and Evelyn F. (McClelland) Schleifer Jr. 

Theodore was the owner of the Schleifer Funeral Chapel and Professional Funeral & Cremation Services of North Braddock.  He was a graduate of St. Thomas District High School, Class of 1963, Duquesne University, Carlow College and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and did graduate work as a Reading Specialist at the University of Pittsburgh.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, where he served as a lector and extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, past president of the Braddock Rotary Club, member of the Enterprise Zone, member of the Knights of Columbus and the Braddock Elks. He was the organist at Kerr Presbyterian Church in Penn Hills and a member of the Allegheny County, Steel Valley, and Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association.

Frances T. Osada, 70, of Glassport died December 21, 2020. She is the daughter of the late Francis and Minnie Weslock and beloved wife of the late Edward J. Osada Jr. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Randy) Adams; son Robert (Jessica) Osada; grandchildren Scott and Laura Adams and Jackson Osada; sister Edna Monper; sister-in-laws Jean Ann Osada and Diane Stinner; also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Betty Collins and Darlene Diebold and brother Joseph Weslock. Frances was retired from U.S. Steel and a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish and Ciloetes. Friends received Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport on Wed. from 2-5 and 6-8. A funeral blessing will be held Mon. Dec. 28 at 10am in the funeral home. Interment will be private.

He was a member of the Washington Council for the Blind and the Washington Lions Club, and he enjoyed hunting. Born December 16, 1945 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Jane (Bickerton) Williams. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Wanda J. (Wall) Williams; stepdaughter, Debbie (Dan) Fine of New Eagle; step-grandchildren, Ryan Fine of New York City and Amber (Collin) Maxwell of Monongahela; step-great-grandchild, Addie Maxwell; sisters, Margaret Campbell of Rostraver, Betty Jane (Donald) Coltogirone of North Huntingdon and Mary Ellen Sulesky of North Huntingdon; brother, Gary (Margaret) Williams of West Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Sherryl Wall of Roscoe; also, nieces and nephews.

She was an ardent gardener with a green thumb for growing irises, and a lover of ballroom dancing. Predeceased by her husband James, Janet is survived by her children, Sharon (Randy), Thomas (Alison), Ronald, Debra (Timothy); grandchildren, Matthew (Kjirsten), Brian, Lauren, Benjamin; great-grandson, Lincoln; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald Bruce Taylor, 90, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 at his home.  He was born May 28, 1930 in Jeannette, a son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Nesbitt) Taylor.  Prior to his retirement, Don was an inventory controller for FEMCO/Gulton Fabricating and later was the owner and operator of Lee's Bar  in Irwin.  He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War Era, was an avid outdoorsman and Pittsburgh Steeler's fan and enjoyed working on vintage cars.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Taylor; granddaughter, Ashley;  grandson, Grant; and sisters, Leatta DeZorzi and Jean Davis.  He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Leona (Bohince) Taylor; sons, Donald E. Taylor and his wife, Cindy, Keith Taylor and his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Pam Nichols and her husband, William; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  Services are private.  Arrangements were made by the James W. In an era where we're being bombarded every day on our telephones by scams and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by hoaxes and propaganda, access to information is more important than ever.

This year was a very difficult one for everyone. At Tube City Community Media, we lost one of our best correspondents due to a family emergency, while another had to give up writing for us because of her daytime work obligations. That left us unable to cover some communities with the depth they deserve, and we're sorry about that.

But we've persisted and we are working to recruit several new writers — two of them have already had bylines recently and we're looking forward to more of their good work.

Cynthia Diane Bryant, 71, died Dec. 16, 2020. She was born to the late James & Mary E. Bryant on March 18, 1949 and was the beloved sister to William “Billy” Bryant (deceased).  She was raised and remained a much loved and adored resident of the West Mifflin (Riverview Homes Association) community. 

After graduating from West Mifflin North High School, Cynthia began her career at US Steel where she worked for a number of years.  After the closing of US Steel she devoted 30 years of service to the accounts payable department at PNC Bank, where she retired in 2015.  While maintaining her many roles, without complaint, Cynthia still found the time to double as the supervisor and seamstress for The Children of Praise Mime Ministry, a role which she immensely enjoyed.

Born January 2, 1944 in Monongahela, she was a daughter of the late George and Vera (Dowler) White and wife of the late Donald "Chink" Conaway. She is survived by daughter, Gail R. (Robert) Zontek of Fayette City; grandsons, Zachary Ferrence of Belle Vernon and Jeremy (Juliana Macey) Ferrence of Fayette City; sister, Lola (Carl) Boja of Ohio; brother, Thomas (Mary) White of South Carolina; also, nieces and nephews.
