Jamie J. Chonko, age 35, of West Mifflin, passed away on April 15, 2021, at home. Born on June 9, 1985, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Karen (Seibel) Benvin of West Homestead and her late step father David Benvin and the late Charles Sloss. She was the co-owner of Pizzarella in West Mifflin, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Name Church and a former pharmacy tech at Jefferson Hospital and Penn-Taft Pharmacy. 

She was the best wife and mother that anyone could ask for and she loved to spend time with her family and go shopping. Jamie was the loving wife of 14 years to Bradley J. “Brad” Chonko; mother of Rylee Chonko and Gabriella Chonko, both at home; sister of Sara (Ralph) Marsico of Elizabeth, Carly Sloss of West Mifflin, Ashlee (Phil) Fox of Michigan, and Orlando Hale of North Dakota; granddaughter of Nada (late Charles) Sloss of West Mifflin and the late Dot Seibel; daughter-in-law of Jimbo and Marie Chonko of West Mifflin; sister-in-law of Christopher (Kari) Chonko of Jefferson Hills.

Harold "Skip" R. Smith, 52, of Glassport, died April 16, 2021.  He is survived by his dear friend Terry Vietmeier; sister Melisa (Michael) Danko; brother Donn Smith; nephews Nathan Smith, Scott Stewart, Joshua Danko and Evan Danko and niece Micala Domingo.  Skip was a mechanic and a huge Greatful Dead fan who had a heart of gold.  Funeral arrangements by Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport.

Eleanor Rose Zang, age 80 of Monroeville and formerly of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 in Forbes Hospital.  Born August 10, 1940 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Kovacs) Pfefferkorn.  A 1962 graduate of Duquesne University with a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry, Eleanor retired as a lab technician for the UPMC Hospital System.  She was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Parish, Elizabeth Twp, and was an accomplished knitter, even knitting voluntarily for the homeless.  In her spare time, she also loved to read, golf, watch NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, and was a great animal lover.  Besides her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Raymond John Zang, who passed away August 13, 1982, and her siblings Irene Maley and Andrew Pfefferkorn.  She is survived by her children Mary (Rocco) Vadala of Brookfield, OH, Amie (Kevin) Finney of Mt. Vernon, Raymond G. (Kasey) Zang of White Oak, and Damien Zang of Elizabeth Twp.; her grandchildren Kaden, Austin, Kenadie, and Avarie Finney and Zavier and Ragan Zang; and also nieces and nephews.

She worked numerous jobs at Children’s Hospital, LaidLaw as a bus monitor & at American Textile. Pamela loved Bingo, Music & Church .

Pamela attended Payne Chapel AME Church in Duquesne, Pa where she was a Stewardess. She was in the Choir & was with the Alma A. Polk Missionary Society. Barbara Jean Willard, 81, of Glassport, died April 15, 2021.  She is the daughter of the late Paul and Ella Mae (Boyd) Cupp and wife of the late Frank Willard.  Barbara is survived by her daughters Terry (Rick) Hughes and Cathy (John) Faye; son Frank Willard; grandchildren Abigail, Jordan, Hillary and Ben; sisters Shirley Barclay, Judy Yuhas, Jane Hopkins and Jacqueline Bilan; brother Carl Cupp and John Cupp; also niece and nephews.  She was preceded in death by son Michael Willard; grandson Justin; sister Armella Ruber and sister Francine Tibbs. Barbara was a very kind person that loved animals and fed the birds that came to her house everyday and loved her family very much.  Friends received Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport on Sun. from 4 to 7.

Dr. Lawrence L. Lyons, 82, of Hempfield Township died April 14, 2021 at UPMC McKeesport. He was born February 8, 1939 in McKeesport, son of the late George and Anna Margaret (Shoop) Lyons. Dr. Lyons was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lyons (Loretta), two sisters, Shirley Lewis (Kenneth) and Barbara Aranos.  He began his career as an Emergency Room physician at UPMC McKeesport and eventually opening his own family practice in White Oak, spanning a career of over 30 years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Agnes Mens Club and a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Larry enjoyed skiing, golfing and family vacations.

LaWanda (McDonald/Muscante) Krauth . . . LaWanda's kitchen is now closed! 

Born June 22, 1935 in Clairton, Pa went to sleep on April 13, 2021.  Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Emma McDonald, sister Emma Mae Gilligan and husband Dominic A. Muscante.  Also preceded in death by beloved husband, caretaker and best friend, Robert Krauth.  She is survived by her 7 children: Tammy Muscante, Cathy (David) Jay, Falco A. (Gina) Muscante, Anthony Muscante, Anna (the late George) Raine, Susan (Eddy) Medina and Dominic (the late Judy) Muscante; 9 Grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One day viewing at Wojciechowski Funeral Home located in Glassport on Saturday, April 17, from 2 to 5.  Immediately following viewing, a memorial service will be held at the River City Church, formerly known as Glassport Assembly of God.  A private burial at Round Hill Cemetery at a later date.  LaWanda's wishes were for no flowers.  The family suggests that a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.  Thank You!

James Dee Giles

James Dee Giles, 83, of Mint Hill, N.C., died Monday, April 5, 2021, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Jim was born and raised in McKeesport, Pa., on August 29, 1937 and was the son of James Robert and Mary Virginia Giles. Jim was one of three children including his brother Robert and sister Judy. Jim married his wife Patti on September 22, 1978 in Willowick, OH. They later moved to Charlotte, N.C., in 1981.

Jim began his career with Celli-Flynn Architects, and was a key figure in the design of the original swimming pool with its below-ground viewing window at the McKeesport Senior High School, as well as the cafeteria design at Francis McClure School. He went on to work for Bruce Miller and Associates before moving to Ohio and then on to North Carolina.

There he worked on several notable projects for the state government and the University of North Carolina school system. Some of the notable projects included various work on: North Carolina State University, Appalachian State and UNC-Charlotte campuses. Throughout his career Jim was an active member in the A.S.H.R.A.E. chapter of NC. Jim retired from United Engineering Group, Inc./McKim & Creed in 2007. Jim continued to be a consultant in his retirement.

Rosemary was the wife of the late Milan John Kesser, Sr., who passed away in 1972 and the late James Gerondites, who passed away in 1987.  She was a member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon and was also a member of The Catholic Daughters. She worked for Bell Telephone in her younger days and would later go on to work as a home health aide for many years.  She was also a member of AARP. Rosemary was known for her baking of cakes for all occasions and her beautiful cake decorating skills.

Hobert E. "Hobie" Wright, 96, of Greensburg, formerly of Terra Alta, WV, and Elizabeth Township, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021. He was born December 24, 1924 in St. Albans, WV, and was the son of the late Mac and Alma (Minez) Wright. He was the husband of the late Geraldine (Marraccini) Wright and the late Betty Ellen (Lang) Wright. Hobie was a US Marine Corps Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He participated in action against the enemy on Iwo Jima from February 19, 1945 to March 16, 1945. He re-enlisted after WWII and served in the Korean War.

Bertha Montrose, 97, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at her home.  She was born July 27, 1923 in McKeesport, daughter of the late Thomas and Angelina Grdanski.  Bertha enjoyed listing to Polka music and sitting on her front porch watching all the wildlife in her yard. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Montrose Sr.; brother, William Grdanski; and son-in-law, Kevin Shea. 

She is survived by her sons, Murray Montrose Jr. and his wife, Susan, Rodney Montrose; daughters, Audrey Blazwich and her husband, Leslie, Patty Shea; brother, George Brletic; sisters, Helen Vallelunga, Bernice Marker, Charlotte Valeco; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  Services are private.  Arrangements made by the James W.
