Joseph E. Elkowitz, age 78 of Clairton, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Jefferson Hospital. Born June 11, 1944 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Mary and Joseph Elkowitz. Joseph worked as a crane operator for Irvin Works in West Mifflin for 40 years and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, the late Veronica (Papucic) Elkowitz, who passed away on February 21, 2019. He is survived by his sons Michael (Darlene) Mursch of West Mifflin, Jamie (Sarah) Elkowitz of Jefferson Hills, and Shaun Elkowitz of Clairton; grandchildren Marissa (John) Mursch, Holly, Ally, & Essy Elkowitz, Krista (Ziya) Hajiyev, and Allyn (Darci) Fenwick; great-grandchildren Marley Graham, Jayla and Aydin Hajiyev, and Maylanna and A.J. Beth Ann Menke Philburn, 62, of Finleyville passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022. She was born December 24, 1959 in Mt. Lebanon and was the daughter of the late Edward Ronald and Marian Louise (Myers) Menke. Beth attended college at Edinboro University where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She volunteered most of her time to multiple VFW's and American Legions. She is survived by her sons, Kyle (Anne Quinio) Hufnagel of South Park, and Neil Hufnagel of Seattle, WA; sisters, Laura (Greg) Flaus of Mt. Lebanon, and Lisa (Rick) Foster of Mars, PA; grandson, Jude Hufnagel, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Beth is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Edward Philburn, who passed away May 21, 2021. There is no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Mary Ann Algeri, 73, of North Versailles, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was born July 9, 1948 in Clairton, a daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Fike) Ferrence. Prior to her retirement, Mary Ann was a registered nurse for Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Pine Run Methodist Church, Clairton and enjoyed talking on the phone, outdoor concerts, social dining, visiting the casinos, spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events, and loved her pets. She is survived by her husband, Arthur A. Algeri; son, Jeffrey (Sarah) Algeri; daughter, Jennifer (Devon) Lippmann; brothers, John Lee (Lorraine) Ferrence, Greg (Tammy) Ferrence; sister, Joy Davies; grandchildren, Keiran, Carden, Kherington, Maggie and Dori. Like a true fisherman, Thomas Maldonado passed away on the morning of June 14, 2022, in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Albino Maldonado and Cecilia (Kelly) Yniguez and the husband of Patricia (Ackerman) Maldonado. Thomas was best known for his love of fishing and would never miss an opportunity to pass on his true passion for catching the biggest fish. His nearly perfect attendance at the annual Lake Emily Fishing Derby was one of his greatest adventures. He would take his children, grandchildren, and in later years, any neighborhood kid that wanted to attend. He enjoyed watching The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and any sporting event on tv. If anyone listened, he would tell stories of his fishin' trips while scratching off his bingo tickets. He religiously played his daily numbers, sometimes even lucky enough to win. As an Army Veteran and retiree from Riverside Nursing Home, his stories traveled throughout the years and touched many people.

Paul Adam Blazeck, 62, beloved son and brother, died peacefully in his sleep on June 9, 2022. Paul was born on May 18, 1960 and raised in North Versailles, PA. He graduated from East Allegheny High School in 1978.
After trying college, Paul decided to take a different path. Looking for job opportunities, Paul moved to San Jose, California in June 1983. Upon arriving, Paul worked as a construction hand, a roofer, and numerous other jobs before joining the plumbing apprenticeship program for Local 393 Plumbers and Steamfitters. He attended evening classes while doing on-the-job training to earn his plumbing license. Paul’s career in the industrial plumbing industry was well timed as he was part of the Silicon Valley boom of the 1990’s and economic growth in the San Jose area. He loved the diversity of his craft, working on everything from hotels and hospitals to sports stadiums and high-tech computer facilities for 25 years. Paul lived in the Golden State until he retired in 2015 and subsequently returned to Pittsburgh to be near family. Even so, his heart was in California and he vacationed there when he could.
Paul spread his sports loyalty between Pittsburgh and San Jose. He was both a long time Pittsburgh Steelers fan and San Jose Sharks fan, celebrating the highs and lows of each with family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing basketball and biking, or simply relaxing.

Lorraine B. (George) Russo, age 82, of North Versailles, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 11, 2022. She was born February 26, 1940 in Turtle Creek, a daughter of the late Henry and Dorothy George. She was a member of Mary Mother of God Parish (formerly St. Robert Bellarmine) in East McKeesport.
She worked for 25 years as a waitress at Nigro’s Restaurant. She also worked many years as a school guard crossing children safely across 5th Avenue to and from school each day. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Charles George.
She is survived by her husband of over 63 years Carmine Russo; daughter Carla Russo of North Huntingdon and Therese (William) Jordan of North Huntingdon; grandchildren Nicole (Joshua) Schmidt and Dean (Tonya) Jordan; great grandchildren Holdyn and Kane Schmidt and Dean Jordan Jr.; sister Donna Gonzales; and many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was most proud of her 63 year marriage to her life long love Carmine, both of her girls, her grandchildren, and most especially her three great grandchildren that brought her so much joy.
She loved being GiGi Ru & sharing pictures of the kids with all of her friends and family. She was an avid Steeler and Penguin fan, decorating the house, dressing up and even attending a game on occasion. She enjoyed playing slot machines and their many weekend trips to the casinos. After much encouragement, she took her first cruise and enjoyed taking many more cruises thereafter, but her favorite vacations by far, were family trips to Holden Beach, NC. Over the years, she watched her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, play in the sand and sea. Lorraine was a beautiful and special lady with a heart of gold. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Annette Marie Shogan, 69, was born August 9, 1952, in Braddock, PA. She was the beloved daughter to the late Edward and Margaret (Hixon) Shogan. Annette departed this life on June 5, 2022, at her residence in Powder Springs, GA, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Margaret Hixon Shogan and siblings Patricia Kalanish, Margaret Putzlocker, and Marion Askey.
Annette moved to McKeesport when she was 19 years old. Annette was the proud mother of seven beautiful children, whom she raised in McKeesport, PA. She recently moved to Powder Springs, GA. Annette was a stay-at-home mom and also worked as a housekeeper and caregiver. Annette enjoyed her grandchildren and would attend school functions, sports events, and academic celebrations. Annette was also well known in the community for many things, especially her cooking, her kind and giving spirit, and her willingness to help anyone out. She also had a sharp tongue, in love. You could always get a hot meal, a good laugh, and leave with a full stomach and whatever else you needed.
Annette enjoyed puzzle books, coloring, playing cards, a good bingo game, and going to the casino. She also took up sewing and crocheting when she was 11 years old. These hobbies stayed with her, as she taught her children and would sew doll clothes, clothes for her grandchildren, blankets, etc.

Michael McLaughlin, age 75, of Clairton, was greeted into Heaven by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 13, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Born on December 8, 1946 in McKeesport, he was proudly raised in Clairton and was the only child of the late Mark McLaughlin and Anna (Tamburrino) McLaughlin Jones. He is survived by his partner of 24-years, Florence “Babe” Pryzbylski; his children, Ashley (Mark) Iddings and Ian McLaughlin; his step-daughters, Nikki Pryzbylski and Michelle (Jim) Ward; and he was the proud grandfather to his biological granddaughter Audra, in addition to Mackenzie, Emma, Chad, and Miranda, who adopted him as their own. Mike loved God, his family, Babe, the City of Clairton, red wine and Oldies. And not those commercialized oldies. He loved the “real oldies”. Authentic, street corner doo wop, for which he would DJ parties and dances. Mike never finished college, but managed to work his way up to garner several successful careers in sales, even being recruited from retirement because of his proven track record. He worked for Busy Beaver during its inception, Apple Computer during its early days and Wombat Security Technologies as a startup among many others. An accomplished kicker in football, he even passed first round open tryouts with the Pittsburgh Steelers. When asked why he did not go back for the second round, he would simply reply, “I was young and stupid.” He was proud of his roots, his family and friends, and was fiercely devoted to all of them. He will be missed on earth, but on a quiet night, if you listen carefully, you will hear doo wop playing in Heaven.

Mrs. Papernick retired as secretary for the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education, and for 30 years was an independent grocer at the Hilltop Market of Glassport. She was a member of Temple David in Monroeville, a former member of the Temple B’nai Israel, Hadassah, Jewish War Veterans Aux., past president of the Department of PA J.W.V.A., a former member of Robert Morris College Independents (a theatrical group), Seasoned Players (a senior theatrical performing group), Senior Vaudeville Seasoned Players, and Senior Vaudeville “Sassy Seniors”. She performed at the McKeesport Little Theater and throughout the Pittsburgh area, receiving 2 awards at M.L.T., “Best Supporting Actress of 2000” and “Best Actress of the Year for 2002”, and entertained servicemen in Pittsburgh during WWII.

David Daniel “Frost” Foster, 49 of Clairton, formerly of McKeesport, passed away on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, at Canterbury Place. He was born in McKeesport on March 27, 1973, to the late David Daniel Pryor and Cynthia Louise (Foster) Kelley. He is survived by his daughter Brittany L. Foster of Clairton as well as his sons Colton David and Clayton Daniel. Further survivors include brothers Eric C. Foster of Pittsburgh and Adam J. Kelley of Clairton, stepfather Howard Kelley of Clairton as well as his past partner Dawn R. Anderson of Clairton. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his grandparents Dorothy and John Foster.
He enjoyed fishing, video games, listening to music (especially Metallica), and spending time with his family. He was employed by Water Ways, testing hoses for fire companies.
