Irene C. Alvarez, age 66, of North Versailles, died on January 18, 2025. Born June 23, 1958, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Jean (Magee) Ackerman and wife of the late Domingo Alvarez.  Irene dedicated a significant part of her career to healthcare, beginning her journey as a housekeeping supervisor at Baldock Health and then at UPMC McKeesport. She later took on the role of, where her commitment and dedication shone brightly. Her work was not merely a job; it was a profound expression of her caring nature, and it troubled her deeply when illness kept her from doing what she loved.  Irene was a vibrant community member and was actively involved with the Moose Lodge in East McKeesport. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: playing bingo, scratching off lottery tickets, and thrill-seeking trips to the casino. Her laughter echoed in the hearts of those who knew her, often accompanied by the sweet sounds of Donny Osmond's music, which she adored. Shopping for deals brought her excitement, exemplifying her spirited personality and love for life.  Irene's greatest pride and joy were her family, particularly her beloved daughter, Jodi Anderson, and her devoted mother, Jean Ackerman. She nurtured them with unconditional love and raised them with boundless affection, creating cherished memories that will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

Mary E. Fazek

Mary Elizabeth Fazek, fondly called Maboo by her friends and family, age 69, of McKeesport, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 16, 2025.  Born July 25, 1955, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Albert A. and Ruth (Bates) Fazek, and adoring wife of Matthew Shaffer.
Mary worked for U.S. Steel National Tube Works and then at Sam's Classic Grille in McKeesport.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by a loving son, Joshua Shaffer; precious granddaughter, Leilynn Shaffer; brother, Neil Fazek.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Mark Fazek.  Mary will always be remembered for the joy that she brought to our lives.

Born on September 22, 1929, in Erie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Quirino and Elizabeth Letterio and the wife of the late Alexander Clemente. Amelia was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School in Erie, PA. She was employed for 17 years as parish secretary for St. Perpetua Church in McKeesport.

James Flanigan

James Flanigan, age 97, of Liberty Borough, died at home on December 30, 2024.  Born April 30, 1927, in Port Vue, he was the son of the late Raymond and Jane (Blaha) Flanigan and husband of the late Shirley Flanigan.  
James began his journey as a truck driver for his father's company, he was an Army combat veteran, serving during the Korean War. His commitment to serving others continued throughout his life, notably as an active member of the American Legion Post 447 in Port Vue and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  James attended veteran support groups in White Oak, where he found camaraderie and fellowship among those who shared his experiences.

Joe Danscak, age 74, of Liberty Borough, died January 7, 2025, at UPMC East Hospital.  Born March 19, 1950, in Duquesne, he was the son of the late John and Isabelle (Figel) Danscak.
Joe worked for U.S. Steel Duquesne Works, was a landscaper, and retired from Duquesne University.  He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War overseas in the Mediterranean.  He was a member of the WABCO bowling league, spending many happy hours throwing strikes and sharing camaraderie at White Oak and Green Valley bowling alleys. His zest for life extended beyond the lanes, as he found joy in daily crossword puzzles, engaged with the latest commentary on Fox News, and savored the nostalgia of old reruns of his favorite television shows.

Born August 13, 1954, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Edgar Smith and Sarah Irene Williams and husband of Denise Porter.  Maurice was a dedicated butcher known for his craft at Rendulic's in Port Vue and 84 Packing in Washington. When he wasn't working, Maurice enjoyed riding his electric bike along the Yough Bike Trail, appreciating the beauty of nature surrounding him. He held a special love for vacationing in Ocean City, MD, where every sunset became a cherished memory. Above all, Maurice was devoted to his family, and his grandchildren were a constant source of joy and pride. They will forever remember him for his laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support.

May 4, 1942, in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Barbara (Velardo) Pierce.  Roberta dedicated many years of her life to serving others as a Nursing Assistant at the VA Hospital, where her compassion and dedication touched the lives of countless veterans and families.  She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was engaging in spirited games of bingo or relishing the great outdoors during camping trips with her children. Her favorite trips were often spent exploring the beauty of Lake Erie and admiring the iconic lighthouse at Port Clinton, Ohio, creating cherished memories that her family will hold dear.  Roberta's faith was an integral part of her existence; she made it a daily ritual to read her Bible, drawing strength and inspiration from its teachings. Her unwavering belief nourished her spirit and offered solace to those around her.

Buccini.  Helen worked several years as a Prudential Insurance senior clerk and a travel counselor for the American Automobile Association (AAA). She was a member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish and attended St. Eugene Church of Liberty Borough.

Marlene C. Tiskiewicz, age 88 of Port Vue died December 26, 2024 at home. Born April 22, 1936 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Smith) and the late Roy Wiggins, Sr. and the wife of 58 loving years to the late Richard J. Tiskiewicz.

Marlene worked for over 10 years as a bookkeeper at the former G.C. Murphy Co., where she inadvertently developed a lifelong love of shopping. She also loved decorating for every holiday, inside and outside of her home in Port Vue, along with meticulously caring for her yard. Marlene's greatest joy was spending time with and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

David Shearer, age 63, of McKeesport, died December 7, 2024, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.  Born November 4, 1961, in Braddock, he was the son of the late William Maxwell Shearer and Margaret (Ord) Shearer-Zawasky and fiance of Judy (Oddo) Barber.

David dedicated much of his life to his work as a roofer, honing skills that helped many in his community.  His hands, calloused yet gentle, carried a profound knowledge that turned houses into homes.  In retirement, he found joy in his other passions, particularly fixing cars and motorcycles.  Nothing brought him more satisfaction than breathing new life into machines, a testament to his creativity and steadfast dedication.
