Vickie J. Powell, 70, of Duquesne, daughter of the late Jean Neal, passed away on  January 24, 2020 at home. Vickie was born on February 11, 1949 in Bolton, NC. She was a devoted wife to Charles Powell.   She was a Nursing Assistant at UMPC McKeesport. As a member of Payne Chapel A.M.E, she served on the missionary and culinary ministries. She was preceded in death by her mother, son, Leroy Powell, and brothers; James and Jamont Neal.

Vickie is survived by her loving spouse of Charles Powell, son, Antwan C (Tamika) Demery of Hampton, VA; Laverne and Rhonda Demery of Duquesne, PA, Tevin, Ibn, Tre'Von and Geena Powell of Duquesne, PA; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; siblings Judy (Mark) Jones, Reverend Hazel (Vernon) Kelly, Kim Neal, Jeana (Kenneth) Bryant; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Timothy Chavis, 56, son of Nancy Chavis and the late James Chavis, Sr. was born on July 9, 1963, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He passed away on January 19, 2020, in Erie, PA. He was preceded in death by father, James Chavis, Sr. and brother Toni Chavis.

Tim or Timmy, as he was affectionately known, played Varsity football and graduated from McKeesport High School in 1981. He enlisted in the United States Army. He was very Industrious & worked many trades throughout Mckeesport/Pittsburgh/Erie,  Pennsylvania area

Tim loved music, chess, checkers, sports & loved to help others. He loved his family & his family loved him. When in town, Tim attended Kingdom Come Ministries in Clairton, Pa.

Franswal Warren Rice, 51, of Clairton, passed away on January 15, 2020. He was born on July 10, 1968 to Wanda Howard and the late Henry Rice. Franswal, affectionately known as “Frankie,” graduated from Clairton High School. He is survived by his loving daughter, Janelle  Rice of Pittsburgh, PA; two grandsons, Jay'zon and Dae’Jour Rice, two sisters, Tiffany  Richardson and LaWanna Rice of Clairton, PA; two brothers, Christopher Rice of Clairton, PA, Fred  Taylor of Duquesne, PA; step mother, Rosa Lee Rice, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jones, 63, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, passed away on  January 18, 2020 at UMPC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. She was born on October 5, 1956, to Clarence and Georgia Petty in Henryville, Indiana. She married Norman Jones and from this union, one daughter was birthed. Shirley worked as a Dental Assistant. Shirley is survived by her loving spouse Norman Jones; daughter, Alexis M Jones of McKeesport, PA.

Jeffrey “Eb” Jackson

Jeffrey “Eb” Jackson, 65, of West Mifflin, departed this life on January 20, 2020. Jeffrey was born February 28, 1955 in Elizabeth PA and was the son of the late Howard C. Jackson Sr. and Erma Sally Jackson.

He was a graduate of Clairton High School and was employed by US Steel, North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company, Duquesne Family Support Center and Goodwill Industries of Lawrenceville, PA.

Jeffrey was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Duquesne, Pennsylvania where he served as Vice-President of the Hospitality Ministry. He was also a devoted member of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry and the Trustee Ministry.  Jeffrey was a hard worker for his church and he will be sadly missed.

Enrico worked as a Bartender for Manor Theater. Enrico is survived by his son Warren Waite; sister, Brandy Marshall; brother, James Louis Marshall, IV; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ella "Louise" Alred Wilson

Ella "Louise" Alred Wilson, 87, of McKeesport departed this life peacefully at home on Thursday, January 16, 2020.  

She was born September 19, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Milo and Ida Mae Alred.  She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Wilbert A. Wilson, Sr. and three daughters, Toni R. Wilson, Rhonda J. Wilson Leggett, and Kimberlee L. Wilson.

Louise graduated from Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She worked as a Mortician Assistant/Receptionist for Charles W. Newman Funeral Home for over 30 years.  She also worked at the National Steelworker's Oldtimers Foundation (NSOF) as a Caregiver, and Arts & Crafts Director. Louise was a long-time member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she served in a number of auxiliaries, such as Silver Leaf Club, Eastern Stars & many others. She later transferred her church membership to Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worshipping. 

Louise loved to help people, she always had a beautiful smile and a kind word for everyone she met. She was loved by many and will truly be missed. 

Surviving are her children,  Rev. Wilbert "Woody" A. (Rev. Karin) Wilson, Jr. of White Oak; Kevin R. Wilson of Pittsburgh; Lisa M. (Eugene) Kelley of McKeesport; grandchildren she raised, Aerika (Karl) Callaway of Monroeville; Caleb Leggett; and Clifton (Sherell) Leggett of McKeesport; 13 additional grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends.

Charles Johnson, 59, was born January 8, 1961, in McKeesport, PA to the late Charles and Louise Johnson Sr. He went on to be with the Lord January 12, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Troy Johnson.   

His survivors are his daughters, Lamira Johnson, and Jasmine  Johnson; one grandchild; sisters, Delcina Wynn and Ava Mikell.

Deaconess Elizabeth Jefferies, 90, of Duquesne Pennsylvania, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2020, in Woodhaven Care Center, Monroeville, PA. She was born May 22, 1929 in Greenville, South Carolina, daughter of the late John and Rosella Tate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hermon B. Jefferies and sister Parthenia Johnson and a step daughter Jean Davis (John).

Mrs. Jefferies resided in Duquesne with her late husband of 51 years and was the owner of Tate's confectionery for over 50 years. In many ways, she was a pioneer in the local business community of Duquesne for having owned a business during a time when it was uncommon for women of color to be business owners.

Arthur Williams, 82, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, passed peacefully on January 3, 2020 at UPMC McKeesport Hospital.

Born December 18, 1937 in Clairton, PA, son of the late Essie Williams, Sr. and Donnie Williams. Preceded in death by Essie Williams, Jr., David, Robert, Charles, James, and Bernice Williams.

Arthur was married to Mary Williams for 37 years. (Together for 50 yrs)

He served in the U.S Air Force and later joined the National Guard. He retired from McKeesport Hospital. Arthur enjoyed nature, carving wood and making canes.

Burke Webb, 70, was born on January 26, 1949 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He departed this life, Friday, January 3, 2020 at Kane Regional Medical Center.

Burke was the son of the late Isaac Webb and Helen Jeffries.  He was employed by Irvin Works and retired from the VA Center in Oakland.

He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.

George Orean Saunders, 88, was born on February 27, 1931 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. He departed this life, Friday, January 3, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital. He was the son of the late Samuel Frederick Saunders and Amanda House. He was also preceded in death by his son William Saunders.

George obtained a Business Degree from Lincoln University. He was the loving husband of Ruth Matthews Saunders for 67 years. He retired from U. S. Steel after 35 years.  He was the Pastor for Gospel of Jesus Church in Duquesne, Pennsylvania for a number of years.

He loved his church. He enjoyed gardening, and admired everything about airplanes; although he never flew in one.

Born June 18, 1947 in McKeesport, son of the Late Raymond A. and Evelyn B. Still Sr.

Devoted Husband of Deborah Smith Still, Beloved Father of John (Stacey) Graves, Raymond A. Still III, Raquel Still, and Fawn Still. Loving Brother of Beverly MacKabee, Shirley Little, and Larry Still.

Raymond was a member of Covenant Church of Pittsburgh, and its Pastoral Team, and a retired Production Supervisor at GM B.O.C. Plant, West Mifflin.
