He was born March 19, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late Henry and Eva Holjack Heckel. Prior to his retirement, Richard worked in law enforcement as chief of police for Penn Township in the 1950's, police officer for East Pittsburgh, Westinghouse Security, and a lab assistant for Westinghouse Research, Churchill, PA. He was a member of St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church and a veteran of WWII and the Korean War, having served in the Air Force with 20 years of service. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Katherine Ann (Lowry) Swope, 94 of North Huntingdon was called home on Thursday March 3, 2016. Kate led a full and fun life. She loved belting her alto parts with her Sweet Adelines and being with her special friends "The Turtlelettes". Being an excellent seamstress, Kate made many of their performance costumes. She also loved to crochet, making cute outfits for babies all over Pittsburgh. Kate loved to travel spending summers in Stone Harbor, performing with her Sweet Adelines in London, and living in places such as Northern Michigan and Mexico on the Sea of Cortez. Kate was known for being witty, patriotic, having a 10 cent novel stash, and being an avid fan of her Pittsburgh sports teams.
