Robert J. Chomas, age 94, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at home. He was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Michael Church in Elizabeth Twp. He graduated from Elizabeth High School and earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a radar technician and instructor while serving in the Army during the Korean War and retired as a maintenance supervisor for US Steel Homestead Works. He was a former Little League manager for the Marraccini’s baseball team, a basketball coach, and a former Cub Scout Master for Pack 78 at Round Hill. He enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling for many leagues, traveling, and watching sports in his retirement. Born December 19, 1928, in Elizabeth Twp., he was a son of the late Rev. Joseph and Bertha (Kadar) Chomas. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis J. (Bernadowski) Chomas; children, Cindi (Scott) McCall of Elizabeth Twp., Terri (Chris) Lesher of Colorado and Ron Chomas of Elizabeth Twp.; grandchildren, Andrew Martell, Brandon McCall, Chris McCall, Jessica McCall, Bryan Chomas and Corey Chomas; great-grandchildren, Lila, Andrew, Leo and Lotti; siblings, James L. Chomas of Elizabeth Twp. and the Rev. Barbara Minter of Erie; daughter-in-law, Andria Chomas; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by children, Bob and Dan Chomas, and brothers, Richard and William Chomas. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Elizabeth on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 9:30 AM in St. Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Michael Church with the Rev. Thomas A. Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Prep Wilson Campus, 1900 Clairton Road, West Mifflin, PA 15122, a Christian school operated by his daughter and grandson. William John "Big Billy" Byers

William John "Big Billy" Byers, 89, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 13, 1934 in Clairton and was the son of the late William James  and Isabele (Bach) Byers. Billy was a US Navy Veteran who served during The Korean War, for his service he was awarded the National Defense Medal, The China Service Medal, United Nations Medal and The Korean Service Medal.  Upon completion of his Naval service, he would go on to work for 32 years as a truck driver for Fox's Grocery.  He enjoyed vegetable gardening, especially cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, green beans, beets and garlic.  He loved camping at his camp in Vacationland in Meadville, PA where he would also go fishing and also enjoyed cruising to Ireland and Alaska. Big Billy was also a member of club VFW. He was a man of many friends and would help anyone in need, anyway he could. Most importantly, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Gloria A. Glagola, 89, of Glassport, died Oct. 31, 2023.  She is the daughter of the late John and Anna Marie Canelle and beloved wife of the late Joseph Glagola.  She is survived by her son Paul (Donna) Glagola; grandchildren Samantha (Douglas) Nicholas and Dr. Cameron (Caitlin) Glagola; great grandchildren Connor and Cole Nicholas and Cooper Glagola; sisters Bevelry Liberty and Patty Ancarana.  Gloria was a member of St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church.  Friends received at the Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport on Sun. from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7.  A funeral blessing will be held Mon. at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Father Dimitri Ermakov.  Interment following Grandview Cemetery, North Versailles.

Daniel Patrick Davis, 67, of Greensburg, died peacefully at Forbes Hospital on October 30, 2023. He was born in Greensburg on November 25, 1955 to Julie and Clayton Davis, the sixth of ten children. Dan attended Latrobe High School before studying Engineering at University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. He briefly lived in Wyoming, working on oil rigs, and California, before returning to Pennsylvania in 1977. He was a gifted musician and enjoyed playing and listening to music at Speal’s Tavern. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Michael, and his daughter, Mikaela.

Pasquale A. “Pat” Ciccone, age 70, of North Huntingdon, PA, died October 30, 2023 at home. He was the beloved husband of Lynn (Schultise) Ciccone for 41 years. Pat worked for The PA Turnpike Commission, Harrison City Maintenance for 25 years and retired in July 2018. He worked for the City of Pittsburgh for 25 years and was an usher at the Civic Arena for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed his part-time job as a driver for Shorkey Auto Group which fed his love of vehicles. Pat had memberships with the Crowfoot Sportmen’s Club, Harley Owners Group, Corvette Club, Italian Sons & Daughters of America, and the National Rifle Association. Pat was also a volunteer for many years with the Pittsburgh Grand Prix. Pat enjoyed cooking, shooting, driving his Harley and Corvettes, doing projects around the house and was a big supporter of all the Pittsburgh Sports teams.

Nellie (Kurzynski) Shurgot, of North Versailles, peacefully passed on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on July 2, 1937 in Pozan, Poland, at the start of World War II. Nellie was the loving mother of Stephen (Paula) Shurgot. Adoring grandmother of Stephanie (Geremy) Goldstein and Jason Shurgot; great grandmother of Sebastian, Colin, and Peyton Goldstein. Nellie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, the extended Seese family, and all who loved her. She was preceded in passing by her husband Walter Shurgot, parents, Thomas and Julia (Bogucka) Kurzynski, brother, Joe Kurzynski, and sister, Stefka Rytel.

Nellie immigrated to the United States thru Ellis Island from Poland at the age of 15. She brought many delicious Polish recipes with her, that she shared with family and friends. She was known as “Nutroll Lady”. Nellie enjoyed trips to the flea market and the casino. She was a Game Show Network connoisseur in her spare time. Her greatest joy was her son was Steve, and family was her entire life.

She was born in Somerset on April 11, 1934, as the only child to the late Hiron and Mae Sleasman Uphouse. She was married on March 19, 1954, to the love of her life, Paul Smith, who survives her. Dolores and Paul were baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 9, 1959. They have both faithfully served their God for 64 years. Dolores was known for her amazing ability to cook and bake. She was generous to all that she knew, and she loyally supported her husband throughout their 69 years of marriage. Hugh B. “Huey” Scurfield, age 93 of Clairton, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 in Grandview Estates, Elizabeth Twp..  Born October 31, 1929 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Elmer B. and Margaret (Donnelly) Scurfield.  Huey was the last of the Scurfield brothers, being also preceded in death by his brothers Elmer “Bus,” Thomas “Top,” James, and Joseph Scurfield.  Huey was a retired electrician for US Steel, Clairton Works and also worked at the former Cross Ford, Clairton.  He was a parishioner of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish – St. Clare of Assisi Church, Clairton.  Huey is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ruth Mae (Curry) Scurfield; his daughters Carol A. (the late Lemuel) Goodrum and Deborah L. (Jay) Jerome, both of Elizabeth; his four grandchildren: Tanya Mock, Kristie (Ryan) Goodrum-Powell, Jennifer (Adam) Cavalier, and Justin (Alexandra) Jerone; his eight great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Logan, Jaiden, Morgan, Domenic, Amelia, Jessie, and Josephina; and also nieces and nephews.
