Albert "Red" Petrosky

Albert C. "Red" Petrosky, 92 of Glassport, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 23, 2021 surrounded by his family.  He is the son of the late Anthony and Frances (Walkowski) Petrosky.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Eileen (Dillhoff) Petrosky; daughters Janet A. Petrosky and Eileen "Tina" (Joseph) Bruno; loving granddaughters Lauren (Connor) Devoe and Christine Bruno; longtime family friend Cynthia Baum; and many nieces and nephews.  A lifelong resident of Glassport and an employee of National Tube Company of McKeesport and US Steel Union.  Albert enlisted in the US Army in 1951; performing duties as a military police officer stationed in France during the  Korean War.  Honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.  Returning to Glassport, Albert married Eileen and together raised 2 successful daughters.  Red could usually be found in Glassport, frequenting the stores, Glassport diner and the Donut Shop, while socializing with friends.  He loved outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting and long walks in the woods with his dogs.  He loved all animals, especially liked to feed the outside wild animals as well as inside animals in his home.  He loved watching professional sports, especially baseball and football.  After retiring from US Steel at age 55, with over 30 years, "Red" spent his retirement years taking care of family and friends, especially his granddaughters, often attending their sporting events while making sure everyone was well fed.  He was a former member of St. Cecelia Parish of Glassport presently St. Joachim and Anne Parish; where he loved to take the family to the fish fries and other church activities; a member of the PNA and the American Legion.  Friends received Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport on Sun. from 6 to 8.  A funeral mass will be held Mon. 10:00 am at Queen of the Rosary Church.  Interment following Calvary Cemetery, Port Vue, with military honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in Albert's name.

 


Robert Francis Reed

Robert Francis Reed, 83, of McKeesport, passed away on November 17, 2021 due to heart failure. He is survived by Doreena Elliott, his loving companion of 34 years, and three sons: Shawn (Karen) of Coraopolis, Scott (Jill) of West Newton, and Brad (Melissa) of Monongahela. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Hailee, Sean, Cody, Jessie, and Connor; and three great grandchildren: Sean, Owen, and Maddy. He was preceded in death by parents Francis “Bricky” Reed and Rosanne (Carr) Reed of McKeesport and wife Eileen (Lewis) Reed of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Bob was a 1956 graduate of McKeesport High School, and a member of the United States Air Force where he served in the Strategic Air Command as a military police officer from 1956-1962. His service to his country included appointments in Germany, England, Iceland and the United States. Following his military service he worked in security and machinery operations. He was a proud member of the American Legion, AMVETS, Hibernians, 11th Ward Club, and Sheriff’s Association. Throughout his life he maintained an interest in military and Irish history, woodcarving and drawing.

Dennis John McCarthy, 70, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was born May 28, 1951 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John F. and Fanica (Mihaljevic) McCarthy. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon and was a retired teacher from the Norwin School District where he taught at the Elementary and Intermediate schools. He graduated from California State College and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the National Educational Association and the 3FE Toyota Land Cruiser organization. Denny's most loved hobbies included camping with his family, traveling North America and Ireland, making home-cooked meals, working with his hands, and "pinching pennies but buying a Lexus." Arguably, his favorite pastime was stirring the pot and his ornery laugh will be missed by all his friends and family. Through all of his life he met many struggles but never let them hold him back.

Theodore “Ted” Karas, 83, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the age of 83 at his home in White Oak. He was born March 11, 1938. Ted is survived by his brothers, Samuel (Lisa) Karas, John “Doug” (Georgann) Karas and Daniel Karas, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in passing by his parents, John and Milka (Savic) Karas, and his brother, Milovan “Butch” Karas. Ted was a proud United States Navy Veteran. He was a longtime employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroeville. His biggest joy in life was the time he spent with family and friends.

Walter Donnell Holmes, 86, was born April 16, 1935 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Walter departed this life on November 16, 2021, at Transitions Healthcare, Irwin, PA.

He was the beloved son of the late Aaron Holmes and Theodoshia (Mitchell)  Everette.

In his early twenties, Walter served in the United States Army as a paratrooper. He married Paralee Cunningham and to this union four children were birthed.

Walter loved to travel, he was part of the Traveling Kings and Queens, Jolly 5 Campers and National African American RVers Association.

Walter was a longtime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. His life was an example of Matthew 25:21 “Well done good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of the Lord.” Walter was a Deacon. He was on Noah’s Ark Board of Directors. He also served as Youth Church Leader and sung with the Gospel Choir.

John J. Gatchie, age 70, a lifelong resident of McKeesport, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital with his daughter Beth and his girlfriend Debbie by his side. He was born March 13, 1951, in McKeesport, the son of the late John Sr. and Catherine (Coulter) Gatchie. John was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country and in his early years, worked as a bricklayer/construction worker. Later in life, he worked for and retired from the City of McKeesport Parks and Recreation Department. John was a member of several organizations, including the AMVETS, 11th Ward Club, PNA, various American Legion Posts, the Moose Club, the VFW, and the Polaris Lodge No. 375. John had a passion for music and had an impressive collection of records that he would always play. He took great joy in teaching his granddaughters how to use the record player. He was known to always have the window open and the music volume up so all the neighbors could share that love of music with him. He enjoyed relaxing on his porch and welcoming his neighbor’s cat “Sid” to keep him company. Most importantly, John was a family man and spent a lot of time with his daughter, Beth, and granddaughters Kayla and Jenna. He was a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anybody in need, and he will truly be missed.
