James Elliott Payne, 77, of McKeesport was born on October 14, 1942, to the late James McRuby and Alberta (Swaney) Payne in Elizabeth, PA. James passed away on August 19, 2020, in his home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Edward Payne, three sons, Dewayne, Anthony, Mark Payne, and brother, George Payne.

Cheryl Lynn Thompson Coleman died August 5, 2020. She was born on July 11, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, the second of three children to the late Robert F. and Doris S. Thompson.
No one knew the profound impact this child would make or leave on so many lives, but GOD knew. She was raised with the core values of putting God first then family.
Cheryl accepted the Lord at a very early age. She loved the Lord so much and fulfilling our Grandfather’s wishes she pursued and received a Certificate of License to preach the Gospel of Ministry in 2005, followed by obtaining her Certificate of Ordination in 2006 from Bethlehem Baptist Church, McKeesport, PA, where she delivered her first sermon as an Associate Minister, the beginning of several to come. Up until the time of her passing, Cheryl was actively coordinating and planning church functions, occasionally teaching a computer class or two.

Carl Johnson, 76, was born September 15, 1943 to the late Charles and Sindora (Williams) Johnson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Carl departed this life on July 30, 2020 in his home. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Johnson, sister, Renne Woodard, brother Ward Williams, and twin brother, Charles Johnson.
Carl graduated from high school and shortly after, was inducted into the United States Army for two years. During the course of his life, Carl was a hard worker. He retired from National Tube Works and the Maintenance Department at Century III Mall. His family remembers the words of wisdom he gave to everyone he knew and met.

Gertrude Virginia Jackson, 74, was born September 10, 1945, to the late Moylan and Grace (Willis) Turner in McKeesport, Pa. Gertrude passed away on July 25, 2020, at Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Hills, PA. She was also preceded in death by her sister Lana Williams.
She was a life long member of First A.M.E. where she served on the Adult Usher Board and was a member of the Hospitality Committee. Gertrude worked as a Mail Clerk for Jefferson Hospital until she retired. She loved to cook, especially chicken. Her hobbies included crocheting and in her pastime, she would love to go to the casino. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Gertrude is survived by her children sons, Gerald Turner of McKeesport, Avanalist (Rachel) Jackson, Jr. of Hazelwood, Dwayne (Regina) Jackson of Clairton, Steven (Sonya) Jackson of Mississippi; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Delores Russell of Levittown, Norma Smith of Clairton, Sherrill Marbra of Bristol, Thymi Turner of Jefferson Hills; brother, Moylan Turner of Clairton; devoted companion, Thomas Webb; aunts, Edith (James) Worthy, Janice Watts, both of Clairton, Geraldine Jackson of Pittsburgh; uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Czarniecki, 25, of West Mifflin, formerly of McKeesport, passed away peacefully July 19, 2020, in her home. Born February 14, 1995, in Pittsburgh. Loving daughter of Jennifer Czarniecki and John Jones. Survived by grandmother, Jean Zebroski; aunt Jessica Richter; uncles Anthony Jaskulski and Dan Czarniecki; cousin Austin George and her countless friends. A 2013 graduate of McKeesport High School, Jacqueline was a compassionate, vibrant personality, who unconditionally loved her family, her friends, and her two dogs Bella and Fendi. Jacqueline enjoyed basketball, hanging out with her family and friends, music, and embodying the heart and soul of a people person, keeping all of those people around her flowing with joy and laughter.

Tera Meade-Smith, 49, of Clairton, was born on March 14, 1971 to Patricia (Weatherspoon) Meade and the late Terry Meade in McKeesport, Pa. Peachcake, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, unexpectedly passed away on July 22, 2020 in her home. She was preceded in death by her son Tauveá Hurt and brother Patrick Meade of Detroit, Michigan.
Peachcake, a graduate of Clairton High School, was loved. For many years she worked as a Direct Care Specialist at Q.A.C.S. She loved people, and she shared that love while working as a Home Health Aide. She lived her life to the fullest, she was a member of the Hollywood Club Ladies Darts team.
Peachcake was a dedicated mother who loved spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren. A loving wife, who embraced spending time at home with her husband. She treasured her time with family and friends, often cooking and feeding them. Peachcake enjoyed playing cards, sitting on her porch and listening to good music. In addition to a good laugh, she loved to shop, go to the movies, and out to eat.

Chami Hawkins, 47, was born on January 23, 1973, to Patricia A. Hawkins and the late James E. Tedder in McKeesport, PA. Chami departed this life on July 23, 2020, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter James Hawkins, and brother, Dale Andre Hawkins.
Chami, a graduate of the Duquesne City High School, worked in the childcare industry for nearly twenty-years. She was the Site Coordinator for the Beverly Jewel Wallace Lovelace (B.J.W.L.) After-School & Summer Camp Program at the Duquesne-Orchard Park Location (formerly known as Burns Heights). Chami, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, at an early age, and was baptized at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Duquesne, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Norman E. Gant.
Chami, truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family over the phone, baking and cooking delicious meals for all to enjoy, and using her God-given artistic ability to design clothing, and other items. Chami’s children and grandchildren were her heart and joy, and she would go-without, for them to have and experience some of the finer things in life.

Betty Smith, 63, of Clairton, was born on October 4, 1956, to the late Anne Conover (Gallop) in Greensboro, NC. Betty passed away on July 18, 2020, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Thomas Smith Jr, mother and father Delma and Edmund Saunders, Anne Conover, aunt and uncle Hazel and Floyd Spellman, mother in law Willie Dean Smith, father in law Thomas Smith Sr, sister in law Emma Smith.
Betty graduated from Clairton High school. Before developing a career as a certified nursing assistant she worked in the Clairton Steel Mill. She moved to Frederick, Maryland where she started her CNA career at Beverly manor nursing home. She worked as a CNA for Superior home health before she retired. She married Thomas Smith Jr on October 31, 1987, and to this union, daughter Zenaida Smith was birthed.

Keith Jones, 20, of McKeesport, was born April 28, 2000, to Ephriem Wanzo and Dalia Scott in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He departed this life unexpectedly on July 16, 2020.
Keith, a student at McKeesport Area High School, impacted many people in his 20 years. He enjoyed basketball and was a loyal friend to whoever crossed his path. He was very protective of whomever he considered a friend. He loved all his Duquesne and McKeesport Family. He received numerous certificates for goals that he set and accomplished. Keith was very respectful toward elders. Above all, he enjoyed making music.

LaQuay Mack-Oden, 37, of McKeesport, departed this life on July 13, 2020, at UPMC Shadyside. She was also preceded in death by her grandmother Mildred Mack, cousins John and Cedric Mack.
LaQuay, daughter of Karen Mack Jones and Sam Magwood, was born on September 21, 1982. She spent much of her childhood in Brooklyn, NY and the other half growing up in McKeesport, PA. LaQuay graduated from McKeesport Area High School in 2000 and furthered her education by receiving a bachelor’s degree at Perdue University Global and a degree in Cosmetology from Empire Beauty School. LaQuay worked as a Central Scheduler for Excela.
LaQuay loved to sing, write music, and dance; she embraced all types of artistry. She had an eye for fashion; very trendy and loved to create different outfits. She often created outfits for her friends. She truly loved the Lord and was a member of the Fountain of Life Church in Hazelwood, PA.

Edna JoAnn Kelso, 69, of Pleasant Hills, departed this life July 11, 2020 at AHN Jefferson Hospital. She was born October 25, 1950, daughter of the late Audrey Jane Dinkins Lowery and Edward Burns in McKeesport. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Kelso, brothers, Darryl Dinkins, Paul Lowery, and sisters, Darlene, Gail, and Anette Burns.
JoAnn was a graduate of West Mifflin High School. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for Bechtel Bettis. She was a member of Oasis Ministries, where she served as the Church Administrator, Pastor’s Executive Secretary, President of the Pastor’s Aid Ministry and Oasis’ Board Member.
Survivors include Edwin Joseph Kelso, wife Stephanie of Coraopolis, Kevin Richard Kelso of West Mifflin; sister, Pastor Kim Dinkins Lankford of McKeesport; brother, William Woodrow Lowery of Swissvale, PA; nieces, nephews, and friends.
