Ryan Michael Zabelsky, age 30 of North Huntingdon died May 3, 2021. He was born January 15, 1991 in Pittsburgh, Pa. , a son of Gregg and Mary Lynne Visser Zabelsky. Ryan was kind hearted, thoughtful and extremely courageous. He was a graduate of Norwin Class of 2009 and also a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown Campus with a degree in accounting. Ryan enjoyed the beach, golfing and fishing. He is the grandson of the late Ken and Agnes Visser and "Cil' and Robert Zabelsky . Also surviving are two brothers, Kevin and Jason Zabelsky, a sister, Rachel Zabelsky, his step grandmother, Bernice Visser, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be private. James W. Robert A. Waight, 83, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was born September 26, 1937 in Aspinwall, a son of the late Floyd and Margaret (Krieg) Waight. Prior to his retirement, Robert was an electrical engineer for Westinghouse and a veteran of the US Army Reserves. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish, enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary and James Waight; and sister, Patty Waight. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, JoAnne Wilkinson Waight; sons, Jim and his wife, Ann, Neal and his wife, Julie; daughter, Laura Chomanics and her husband, Mike; grandchildren, LeeAnn (Brandon) Meyer, Christina Waight, Madeline Waight, Dominique (Steven) Gray; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Francis, Lillian, and Cecilia.

Betty Miller Beranek, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born September 3, 1931 in Madison, a daughter of the late Paul and Blanche (Eisaman) Miller. Betty was a registered nurse having graduated from the Westmoreland Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. Because of her great love of books and reading, Betty volunteered at the Norwin Public Library for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert E. Beranek; brothers, Lewis, Earl, Robert D., Willis and Paul Miller; sisters, Irene Weibel, Rosella Shindehite, Helen Connolly, Dorothy McWilliams and Donna Fawcett. Betty was a member of The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, N. Huntingdon. She is survived by two sons, Robert A. Beranek and his wife, Pamela, of North Huntingdon; David E. Beranek and his wife, Christina, of Virginia; daughter, Lynn T. Vita and her husband, Charles, of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Michael (Elizabeth) and Matthew Vita, Leanndra, Lindsay, Mikayla and Jonathon Beranek; two great-grandchildren, Cayden and Layla Beranek. Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas and Dean Miller; sister-in-law, Nancy Miller; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Richard Allen Funk, 71, of Ardara, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 at his home. He was born March 6, 1950 in Braddock, a son of the late Luther and Dorothy (Kapostas) Funk. Prior to his retirement, Rich was an expeditor for US Steel and a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Ardara United Presbyterian Church and a social member of Larimer Fire Hall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce (Schueler) Funk; and daughter, Tammi Funk. He is survived by his sons, Richard and his wife Lisa, Grant and his wife, Amy; daughter, Jill Shoff and her husband, Nathan; brothers, Troy, Robert, Albert, James; sisters, Marion Dillen, Judy Varga; grandchildren, Kara, Tyler and Tylor.

Theodore D. Kelley Jr., 83, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 at his home. He was born July 15, 1937 in Wilkinsburg, a son of the late Theodore D. and Francis (Pearl) Kelley. Prior to his retirement, Ted was a pipefitter for Elliott Co., Jeannette, member of Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin, and a veteran of the US Navy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, making wine and gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anne (Pesto) Kelley; sons, Theodore D. Evert D. Danielson, 83, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born June 21, 1937 in McKeesport, a son of the late Evert and Edna (Cristy) Danielson. Prior to his retirement, Evert was a tool and die maker for Precise Technology. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of N. Huntingdon and was an avid football fan and his favorite team to watch was the US Naval Acadamy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra L. Danielson. He is survived by his daughters, Leayn Hernandez and her husband, Robert and Linda Crowl and her husband, Wayne; grandchildren, Jason (Shelly), Tia (Travis), Quinn (Leigh Ann), Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Brady, Collin, Nate, Tyson, Tessa, Alana, Olivia and Amelia. Eugene C. Kusner, 90, of North Huntingdon, Pa., passed away peacefully on Thursday April 22, 2021. He was born March 9, 1931 to the late Michael and Julia Kusner of White Oak, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara Kusner, daughter Linda Barsevich (Michael) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister Vera Wrobleski (Edward) of Malvern, Pa.; and sister-in-law Jeanne O’Toole (Tom) of Glenside, Pa.; and Kathy Hula of Gainesville, Fl.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in eastern Pennsylvania and Florida.
Gene was a proud veteran who spent four years in the Air Force during the Korean War as an Airman First Class. Gene was a classic car enthusiast. His 1966 Mustang and 1974 Lincoln won countless first place prizes at area shows. And once appeared on the cover of Car and Driver magazine. He was an avid gardener who loved to grow tomatoes. Gene also enjoyed traveling the United States.
In 1972, he drove his family across the country in a motor home to visit all of the National Parks. Gene especially enjoyed the mule ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. His favorite vacation spot was Bar Harbor, Maine, where he and Barbara ferried across the Bay of Fundy to Nova Scotia.
He was employed for many years at Firth Sterling Steel Co. in McKeesport and Robertshaw in New Stanton. He was a member of Saint Agnes Church in North Huntingdon for more than 60 years. During that time, he served as an usher and also spent time with their garden club. Eugene was very loved and lived a good long life.

Chris Schlegel, 64, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 at Transitions Healthcare, North Huntingdon. She was born November 12, 1956 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Wayne and Janet L. (Loughner) Watson. Chris enjoyed gathering with her friends for a glass of wine, playing Bingo, cards and especially loved being with her three granddaughters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Lee Schlegel. She is survived by her son, Evan Schlegel and his wife, Debra; daughter, Erika Blackburn and her boyfriend, Kevin Mills; brother, Todd Watson; sister, Cherie Stouffer; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Blackburn, Aria and Ryleigh Schlegel; son-in-law, Justin Blackburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles W. Israel, 87, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 at Redstone Highlands, North Huntingdon surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1933 in Pittsburgh and raised in Coshocton, Ohio, son of the late William V. and Marion (Ford) Israel, raised by his grandmother Goldie Mae Israel and Axel Hillstrom. He graduated from Fresno High School and University of Pittsburgh. Chuck was employed by US Steel, Duquesne Works, Price Waterhouse, and retired from Beckwith Machinery Company. Chuck valued FAMILY above all else and cherished any opportunity to get the family together, especially at the annual beach vacation in Corolla, NC and the annual Crabfest on the back deck. He loved vacations with family at Disney World and various National Parks, especially Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, the Grand Canyon and Canyonlands. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish where he volunteered as an usher and was instrumental in organizing the St. Agnes Bazaar. He was a scout leader for Markvue Manor, mentor for Eagle Scouts and started the Luminaria Fundraiser which lives on today.

George W. "Wes" Whitehead, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. He was born July 25, 1931 in North Huntingdon, a son of the late George and Mary (Scott) Whitehead. Prior to his retirement, George was a supervisor for AT&T and a member of the Norwin Church of the Nazarene. He was a world traveler, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, carpentry and was an all around handyman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott, two brothers, Melvin and Kenneth Whitehead.

Earl Layton May, 84, of Irwin, passed away April 16, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Johnstown, PA, on August 11, 1936, son of the late William and Beulah May. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, June (Wampler) May; children, Timothy May and his wife, Laurene, Wendy (May) Miller and her husband, Ron, Eric May and his wife, Lisa.
Also survived by sister, Darlene Felus, daughter-in-law, Penny May; and son-in-law, Ray Crowell; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Quentin May and Rebecca (May) Crowell; sister, LaRue Wilt.
Earl graduated from Gallitzen High School in 1954, achieved a perfect SAT score, then went off to Pitt to earn his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. He was a certified Professional Engineer. After graduation, Earl worked for Lee C. Moore Corp., American St. Gabain Glass, then began a 35 year career with PPG in the Glass Research Division. He was a graduate of PPG's School of Glass Technology. At PPG, Earl was a constant source of new ideas that made a significant difference in advancing the technology of glass forming. He was awarded 14 design patents.
A faithful and devout Christian his whole life, Earl served his country and his church. He was a member of the US Army Reserves and very active member of Brush Creek Lutheran Church. He was a leader in council, Sunday school and bible study and a member of the choir. In addition to serving on many committees, he was chairman of the church’s 200th anniversary in 1973, where he and June designed and built a parade float. He was also treasurer for Thrivent Financial Services.
Earl liked to watch his grandkids play softball and hang out with them in his pool. He was always there for family events and anything they needed. Earl enjoyed hosting family cookouts, keeping his yard, James Bond movies, reading history and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and his evening phone calls to sister, Darlene. But most of all Earl loved spending time with his best friend, June, whether at home, cruising in his BMW, or out for one of their lunch or dinner dates.

Mary F. Pavlik, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully in Corry, PA on Thursday, April 15, 2021. She was born in the Pittsburgh area to Eastern European immigrants, the late Andrew and Verna (Bence) Hritz. Mary and her late husband, John built their lives in North Huntingdon where they raised their family. Mary was a devoted wife and mother, teaching her children according to God’s word, instilling in them a love for God and family, the importance of a good education and the value of hard work.
Mary could be found volunteering at church, and served as Eucharistic Minister for St. Agnes church for many years. Mary was a member of several ladies’ groups at church, and also took communion to the ill and elderly in the community as well as to residents of local nursing homes. She is fondly remembered for her Eastern European cheregi pastries that she and her late husband John would make together and deliver in person to friends and family. Mary never shied away from helping family or friends, and was a wonderful, giving, caring and kind soul. Her presence will be forever missed by her daughter, two sons and daughter-in-law as well as by countless friends and family.

Mila E. Sacramento, age 10, of Irwin passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 17, 2021 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Mila was born October 10, 2010 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, beloved daughter of Neal and Dawn (Sommers) Sacramento of Irwin. Mila is also survived by paternal grandparents, Tony (Pap Pap) and Sharon (Meme) Sacramento of North Huntingdon. Maternal grandmother, Elizabeth (Nana) Sommers and partner, Richard (Pappy Richie) Tucci of Irwn.
Mila was a fourth grader at Norwin Hahntown Elementary and a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin. Mila cherished weekly Target trips with her Nana, cooking lessons with Meme and teasing her Pap Pap on his daily visits. Mila had a special bond with grandparents on both sides.
She also treasured her time with cousin, Rocco Sacramento and BFF’s Riley Baker and Faith Pascus. Mila was an avid Minecraft and Robox gamer. She was a collector of many things like her Daddy, with her favorite being stuffed animals and LOL dolls. She loved arts and crafts, reading books, pop music, drive in movies and the zoo. Mila’s strong will and courage enabled her to battle through three different types of cancer and 15 major surgeries since the age of three. She was the true definition of a fighter.
Mila’s beautiful, brave, caring, funny, loving, smart and witty spirit touched everyone that got to know her. Mila taught us so much about life in her short time with us. Saying that she will be missed by all that loved her is an understatement especially by her mommy and best friend Dawn.
Mila’s memory will live on in the hearts of many. Mila was greatly loved by her many aunts, uncles and cousins. Dr. Lawrence L. Lyons, 82, of Hempfield Township died April 14, 2021 at UPMC McKeesport. He was born February 8, 1939 in McKeesport, son of the late George and Anna Margaret (Shoop) Lyons. Dr. Lyons was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lyons (Loretta), two sisters, Shirley Lewis (Kenneth) and Barbara Aranos. He began his career as an Emergency Room physician at UPMC McKeesport and eventually opening his own family practice in White Oak, spanning a career of over 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Agnes Mens Club and a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Larry enjoyed skiing, golfing and family vacations.
