Frank J. Urban, age 99, of North Versailles, passed away September 6, 2017. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in East McKeesport. Frank was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II that went on to work for over 40 years in the Boiler House at Edgar Thompson Works in Braddock. He is preceded in death by his wife Sophie Urban; parents Jacob and Catherine Urban; brothers Joseph and Richard Urban; and sisters Stella Rowlands and Bernice Wasko. He is survived by his daughters Patricia (Dennis) Numer, Judith Liebert and Joyce (Simeon) Siau; grandchildren Brian (Lina) Numer, Matthew Numer, Melissa (James) Heckert, Chad (Stacie) Liebert, Jason Liebert, Angela (Dan) Limbacher, Joel Siau, Jeremy (Esther) Siau, Jesse (Lacie) Siau and Charis Siau; great grandchildren Solomon, Jewel, and Grace Liebert, Aubrie and Lucas Heckert, Victoria and Solomon Siau and Ethan Limbacher; brother Peter Urban; and nieces and nephews.

Jamie Norbert Winters, 47, of Elizabeth Township, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017. He was born December 31, 1969 in McKeesport and was the son of Agnes J. Martis Winters of Elizabeth Township and the late Norbert Ralph Winters. Jamie was a Chef at Woody's Restaurant in Versailles. In addition to his mother, he is survived by sisters, Valerie (Kerry) Jones of Londonderry Township, and Judy (David) Hall of Greenock, brothers, Jerry and Gregg Winters of Elizabeth Township and Pastor Jeff  (Michelle) Winters of Finleyville, aunt, Joan Winters of White Oak, his fiancée, Dayna Blazek and her son, Tyler of Uniontown, a niece, Brittany (Keegan) McGregor, nephews, Barrett (Holly) Jones, Brent (Mary) Jones, Blake (Heather) Jones, Brandon (Kate) Jones, and Brent and Brock Winters, great-nieces, Ellie and Sophie Jones, great-nephews, Zachary, Charlie, Teddy, Noah, and Owen Jones, and his loving dog, Spike.

Bernard "Bernie" "Butch" Dworek Jr.

BERNARD F. DWOREK, JR., 79, known as “Butch” or “Bernie”, died at home Sept. 7, 2017.  He is the son of the late Bernard and Emily (Krukowski) Dworek, and devoted husband to his beloved wife Carol, who preceded him in death.   He is also preceded by sister Emily Rusnock and brother William “Bill” Dworek.   Butch was the Daddy of Lisa (Daniel) Hommel, of Monroeville, proud PapPap of Matthew and Benny, and “big brother” to cousin Michelle Vancas and her family.   Butch was a police officer in Glassport for over 40 years, capping his career as Chief of Police before retiring in 1999.   As Police Chief, he coordinated many activities for children, including the popular Annual Fishing Contest, as well as food drives and Christmas activities partnered (through his wife, Carol) with the Glassport Girl Scouts.   He also assisted in her Scouting activities, and greatly enjoyed trips to Pymatuning, fishing, game nights with in-laws ’Sis’ and ‘Budg’, time with “the Kids”, and watching his grandsons perform in musicals.  He belonged to Queen of the Rosary Parish, the Fraternal Order of Police, Citizen Hose Co. #2, and the Oldtimers Baseball Club.   After retirement, he became a bus monitor for special needs children, known to coworkers and kids as “Mr. Bernie”.   Butch and his ’soulmate’ Carol were always a team;  he steadfastly cared for her at home during her prolonged battle with complications from renal failure until her death in 2013.  Friends will be received at Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport, Sat. 6-8 and Sun. 2-4 and 6-8.   A funeral Mass will be held Mon. 10:00 a.m. at Queen of the Rosary Parish with Rev. Miroslaus Wojcicki.  Internment will follow at Round Hill Cemetary.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Duquesne and their Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Guild. She was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Third Order of Carmelites. Beloved wife of 64 years to Albert B. Adams; mother of Dennis (Carol) Adams of Jefferson Hills, Kathleen Firle of Duquesne and the late Kevin (surviving spouse, Tracy) Adams of McMurray; grandmother of Keith Firle, Eric Firle, Sr., late Joelle Mateya, Nicole Adams and Jacob Adams; great-grandmother of Eric Firle, Jr. and Gavin Firle; sister of Patricia (late John) Dupal of Harrison City and Michael Cicak of Duquesne; sister-in-law of Mary Adams of Duquesne; aunt of Joyce and John Dupal; also great-nieces and great-nephews. Carol Catherine O'Connell, 94, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Monday, September 4, 2017 at home. She was born December 18, 1922 in Elizabeth and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Trasp Bauer. She was the wife of the late Francis Xavier "Fritz" O'Connell who died August 15, 2012. They were married for 61 years. She was a member of St. Patrick Parish in Christy Park and was also a member of the Ladies Guild and Resurrection Society. She was also a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon. She was the proprietor of her own in home beauty shop and had worked for US Steel Christy Park Works testing bomb shells during WWII. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Mary (Gery) Stafford of Gaithersburg, MD, son, Daniel Francis ( Karen Jean) O'Connell of Severna Park, MD, sisters, Jean Conn of White Oak and Elaine Jackson of Irwin, grandchildren, Jeremy, Meghan, and Ross Stafford and Daniel O'Connell, sisters-in-law, Mabel Bauer and Jane Bauer, nieces and nephews.

Kathy Tomas, 86, of Lenexa, KS, formerly of Duquesne, PA, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Zaborsko Selo, Croatia, to Mijo and Jela Smenderovac. In 1955, she married her late husband Michael and they had two children before the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Duquesne in 1973. After her husband passed, Kathy moved to Lenexa to stay with her daughter who compassionately cared for her to the end. She was retired from Riverview Center-Jewish Senior Assisted Living Center - Pittsburgh, PA, where she worked as a seamstress for almost 20 years. Kathy loved flowers and enjoyed sewing, needlepointing and gardening. She was a loving, generous and kind person who enjoyed her family and little children. She could light-up a room with a most beautiful smile and, even in her most difficult moments, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could bring a smile to her face.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.

 

Kathy is survived by her daughter Mary (Walter) Rendulic; son David (Carla) Tomas; grandchildren Adam and Maria Tomas and Monica (Carlos) Bello; great-grandchildren Julian and Adrian Bello; brother-in-law John (Josephine) Baic; sister-in-law Marica (late Drago) Spudic; and the late Josip (Micika) Tomas and nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Holt and the St. Luke’s Hospice staff of Kansas City for their exceptional care, compassion and support.

Lawrence F. "Larry" Miller, 72, of White Oak, died Sunday, September 3, 2017. He was born April 3, 1945 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Francis S. and Martha L. Hollen Miller. Larry was a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish and was a US Army Veteran. He was a retired electrician and had worked for US Steel Irvin Works, Lorraine Works and the former Duquesne Works. Larry was a coach at the White Oak Athletic Association for 15 years and was also a former White Oak Councilman. He is survived by his wife, Janet Sue Buchleitner Miller, sons, Matthew L. (Leah) Miller of Indiana and Martin P. Miller of White Oak, sister, Lois Brosky of Greensburg, grandchildren, Michael Barker and Leah Jane Bogdanski, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Richard Potochny, 76, of Greenock, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 in Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born April 27, 1941 in New York, and was the son of the late John and Inger Olsen Potochny. Richard was an Elected Primary Official with Teamster's Local 273 retiring in June, 2000. He was a Senior Captain in the US Army and served from 1960-1972, which included 2 tours in Vietnam. Jim was a member of the Port Vue United Methodist Church. He was a retired Letter Carrier and worked 8 years in McKeesport and 28 years in Glassport. He was a US Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat infantryman Badge. He is survived by his wife, Ruth A.
