Gary Bongartz, 71, of Santa Monica, CA, formerly of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday November 3, 2020, at home. He was born June 7, 1949 in McKeesport, the son of Joseph and Sophie (Poohar) Bongartz. Gary received a master’s degree from Penn State University and retired from teaching in California public schools. He is survived by his sister Heidi Bongartz and several cousins. Chuck spent 47 beautiful years married to the love of his life, Carol. He was the loving father of an “Amazing Daughter” Tami (Allen) Ferguson and a Very Caring Son-in-law Andrew Ferguson. He was also a fun-loving grandfather to Joshua and Camren.

Peter J. “Pete” Cerqua, 93 of Ephrata, formerly of Clairton, passed away on Thursday, November 12th, 2020 at the Keystone Villa at Ephrata. He was born in Wilson on May 7, 1927 to the late Rosalina Polsinelli and Antonio Cerqua, Sr. Peter was the loving husband of 62 years to the late Patricia L. “Pat” Cicero Cerqua, who preceded Peter in death in 2014. He is survived by his daughter: Cynthia J. (David) Brieck, of Lancaster, PA, grandson, David (Dionne) Brieck, Jr., of Lancaster, granddaughter Carleen Brieck, of Lancaster, great-grand-children, Dana, Daphne, and David III. In addition to his wife, Peter was also preceded in death by his daughter Paula Farren, brothers; John, Joseph, Reno, Louis, Sundae, and sister, Rose Coletta.

Bernice B. Croushore, 70, of White Oak, died Friday, November 13, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital.  Born in McKeesport, February 24, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Roy J. Bohn, Dominic Schettino, and Elizabeth G. “Betty” Petrak Schettino. She is survived by her husband, George W. Croushore II; 2 daughters, Jennifer (Gary) Schafer of Jefferson Hills and Rebecca (Phillip) Cicco of North Huntingdon; 4 grandchildren; her sister, Helen Amanda Bohn of North Huntingdon; brother, Earl Bohn of Ben Avon; and was the sister in law of Jack and Linda Coushore of White Oak.  A private family viewing and service will be held Tuesday in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 with the Rev. Sue Washburn officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.

Anthony Donald Matykavisch, age 88, of White Oak, died on Saturday, November 14, 2020. He was born in Chester, PA on September 4, 1932 and is the son of the late Stanley and Anna Andursky Matykavisch. He was the husband of the late Dorothy C. Matykavisch who died on July 27, 2017. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and worked at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh as a carpenter for 32 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion Post 701, the Knights of Columbus McKeesport #955, and was the past president of the White Oak Borough Volunteer Fire Company #1. He loved his cabin in Butler, hunting, and was an avid Steelers fan.

Jim was a CDL Operator for Twin Rivers COG. Jim loved to hunt and fish and was an avid runner and competed in the Great Race and several local 5K Races. He was very proud of his Polish Heritage and whenever he was around, Polka music was playing. He was a beloved Uncle to all of his nieces, nephews and now their children.

Donald J. Curry, age 91, of Jefferson Hills, passed away at home on Saturday, November 14, 2020. He retired with 35 years of service as a guidance counselor and teacher with the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the South Park Baptist Church.

He loved fishing, woodworking and gardening. Born April 9, 1929, he was a son of the late Esther (Curry) Andrews and husband of the late Grace L. (Akerman) Curry.

Victor DeSimone, age 92 of Wilkins Twp. and formerly of Clairton, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 in UPMC Seneca Place, Verona.  Born May 29, 1928 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Biaggio and Rosina (Nuoto) DeSimone.  The former owner of DeSimone Fruit Market and DeSimone Hauling , Victor also spent twenty-three years as a watchman for Allegheny County.  A sergeant during the Korean War in the US Army, he was a member of the American Legion Daniel Keffer Post #75 in Clairton.  Victor is survived by his wife Marlene (Jurenek) DeSimone; his daughters Rosemarie (Carl) Fetch of Monongahela, Victoria (Gene) Zombek of Wilkins Twp., Marlene (Scott) Stachowski of Alpharetta, GA, and Carol (Samir) Joglekar of Duluth, GA; his six grandchildren Hilarie and Jordan Zombek, Austin and Emily Stachowski, and Maya and Pierce Joglekar; and also nieces and nephews.

Harry J. "Nick" Manning

Harry J. "Nick" Manning, age 76 of North Huntingdon, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 in Forbes Hospital, Monroeville, surrounded by his wife and children.  Born May 11, 1944 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Harry and Dorothy (Oatman) Manning and brother of the late Rose Kalkbrenner and Patricia Manning.  From 1967 to 1970, Harry served as a sergeant in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, earning six honorable medals, two Letters of Appreciation, a Meritorious Unit Citation, and a Combat Action Ribbon.  Harry was employed as a craneman at Tygart Steel in Versailles, but he dedicated his life to his home and family.  On October 20, 1970, Harry married his wife Christine (Bach) Manning and, in October, they celebrated fifty wonderful years of marriage.  Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Joseph (Shelly) Manning of McKeesport, Timothy (Debbie) Manning of Coulter, Terrance (Ggee) Manning of Versailles, Allison (John) Shipley of White Oak, Jennifer Carper of Coulter, and Nicholas (Jody) Manning of Rilton; his thirteen grandchildren Nicole, Lindsay, Joey, Taylor, Talia, Christopher, Terrance, Johnny, Nicholas, Dylan, Christina, Hunter, and Melanie; his fifteen great-grandchildren; and also many nieces and nephews.  Words cannot describe or measure how much he was admired, loved, and deeply respected by all who knew him.  He was a giant man with an even bigger heart, and he will always be a hero to his loved ones.

Stanley R. Urbanovich, age 77, of Tequesta, FL, formerly of Forward Twp., passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. He was a retired teacher in the Elizabeth Forward School District and a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp. A graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, he was a standout running back known as Stan the Bread and Butter Man. He also played football at California University of Pennsylvania. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp in Kane. Born December 25, 1942 in Elizabeth Twp., he was a son of Helen (Sislo) Urbanovich of Elizabeth and the late Stanley A. Urbanovich. He is survived by his son, Brent R. aka Fr. Maximus (Susanne) Urbanowicz of Jupiter, FL; daughter, Beth Ann (Michael) Camp of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren; brother, Joseph (Mary Lou) Urbanovich of Jupiter, FL; sister, Marlene (Robert) Suchy of Forward Twp.; also, nieces and nephews.
