Marjorie A. O'Gurkis

Marjorie A. O'Gurkis, age 86, of McKeesport, was called home to be with her  Lord and Savior on April 10, 2022, with family at her side.  Born September 26, 1935, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Clara (Lowenstein) Canfield.  On April 28, 1956, she married Edmund J. O'Gurkis, who preceded her in death on April 28, 2005.
 Marjorie was a graduate of McKeesport H.S. and was employed by G.C. Murphy Co. as an administrative secretary before returning to staying at home to raise her children.  After her children were grown, she worked as a nurse's aide at Kane Community Living Center in McKeesport for many years.  She was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Patrick Church, and a Christian Mother.  She was also an active member of the Renzie Seniors, the Task Force, and Lifespan.
Marjorie loved to play piano and care for animals, especially her cat, Boots.  But most of all, she treasured time spent with her Grandchildren.  She said they were her greatest riches!  Marjorie was a genuinely kind and compassionate lady whose bright smile brought joy to all she met.  She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Annette L. Butsko, age 81 of Clairton, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in Jefferson Hospital.  Born June 15, 1940 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph and Elizabeth (Ceryak) LaValle.  A self-employed beautician, Annette was a member of both Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Clare of Assisi Church and the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge #248, both of Clairton.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew P. Butsko, and her brothers Rudolph and James LaValle.  Annette is survived by her son Brian A. (Marlo) Butsko of Clairton; her grandchildren Brandon, Brady, and Briq Butsko; her siblings Lucille (the late Dom) Nero and Dennis LaValle, both of Clairton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Evelyn Marie "Evie" Fichera, 70, of West Mifflin passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022. She was born June 19, 1951 in McKeesport and was the daughter the late John and Florence (Sweeney) Ruggier. Evie was a member of the Holy Spirit Church in West Mifflin and gave much of her time coordinating & managing events for the West Mifflin #3 Volunteer Fire Department. She was also a housekeeper at McKeesport Hospital, but most importantly, she was a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

James G. "Gary" Celovsky, age 61, of Munhall, died April 6, 2022, at home. Born  November 20, 1960, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Michael Celovsky and Audrey (Shepherd) and Sonny Jordan and the husband of Jacqueline (King) Celovsky.

James was the owner-operator of the former Heritage Harley-Davidson of McKeesport. He enjoyed trips to Bike Week in Daytona, Florida. Gary loved family gatherings and fireworks at the 4th of July celebrations.

Jack A. Payne Sr., age 57, of Elizabeth, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Penn Highlands Mon Valley. He was the founder and owner of JP Concrete and was an extremely hard worker. Born October 10, 1964 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late George A. and Marion (Ammon) Payne.

He is survived by his fiance, Debbie Gumbel of Monongahela; daughters, Sheree Payne of Buena Vista, Forever Trich, Mary Way of Elizabeth Twp. and Samantha (Kenny) Antonelli of Elizabeth; son, Jack A. (Rachel Duval) Payne Jr. of Elizabeth; grandchildren, Michael Curran, Alivia Fanala, Avery Hansen and Eli Jory; sisters, Kathy Williams of West Elizabeth, Robin (Woody) Main of Elizabeth and Kelly Starr of Elizabeth; brothers, Georgie Payne and Danny Starr of Bloomington, IN; "nephew" Walt Larkin of Elizabeth; also, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Winters, age 92, of Port Vue, formerly of McKeesport, died April 10, 2022, at Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Monroeville.  Born July 24, 1929, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Maximillion and Evelyn (Riley) Winters.  Virginia worked for Thurman & Crown and then Dorothy's Candies as a candy maker, where she would retire from.  She was an active member of Port Vue United Methodist Church and was always involved in church activities.  Virginia was also a member of the Port Vue Seniors and volunteered with the Salvation Army for many years serving in many missions.

William H. Simms, age 73 of Clairton, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in Jefferson Hospital.  Born March 27, 1949 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Emerson G. and Grace M. (Herbst) Simms. 

A retiree from US Steel Clairton Works and a member of Pine Run United Methodist Church, William loved to fish in his spare time and was an avid and loyal sports fan to the Steelers and even the Pirates.  He is survived by his daughter Pamela (Brian) Kirlin of Winchester, VA; his grandsons Joshua and Justin Kirlin; his siblings Sandy (the late Tom) Pastore of Port Vue, Tom (Debbie) Simms of Creekside, and Debbie (Lou) Bucko of Clairton; and also many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

An Army veteran serving during the Korean War, he was a retired electrician manager for US Steel National Tube in McKeesport and was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth Twp. Born May 19, 1932 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Russell and Frances (Lockovic) Godfrey and husband of the late Ruth Ann (Hill) Godfrey. He is survived by children, Billie Jo (Robert) Kettering of Elizabeth Borough, Jeffrey (Donna) Godfrey of Palm Coast, FL and Kelly (Greg) Godfrey of Elizabeth Twp; grandchildren, Amy Kettering Brawdy, Todd Kettering, Jeffrey Godfrey, Amber Godfrey, Hunter Humenik and Lucas Schmondiuk; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by brother, Francis Godfrey, and his second wife, Janet (Miller) Godfrey. Visitation and service were private. Grace Lawther, 93, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022 at home.  She was born November 25, 1928 in Jeannette, a daughter of the late George and Mildred (Ritenour) Briggs.  Grace was a member of Miller United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, making plastic canvas crafts and spending time with her family.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Lawther, brothers, William and George Briggs, sisters, Sarah Dixon and Stella Anthony.  She is survived by her son, William Lawther and his wife, Cathy; daughters, Cynthia Lazar and her husband, John, Amy Pavsek and her husband, Scott; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the James W. Lillian Sydoriak, age 91 of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in Mon Valley Hospital.  Born August 15, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Miodrag and Agnes (Ludwig) Ivanovich.  Lillian was a member of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Baldwin and the former St. Mary's Serbian Orthodox Church in Clairton.  She also worked in the former DiCesare's Shoe Store in Clairton.  Besides her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas Sydoriak, who passed away March 24, 2003, and her sisters Ellen Perch and Marion Zombek.  She is survived by her daughter Lillian Tintor, with whom she resided, and also her nieces and nephews.

Prior to his retirement, Martin was a self-employed contractor and a member of St. Agnes Parish. He was a graduate of Norwin Sr. High School Class of '57 and was part of the McDonalds Breakfast Club Plugger's. He enjoyed riding his quad in the woods, hunting, camping and coon hunting. Marty assisted in canine police dog training and loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael, brothers, John, Larry and Eugene, and sister, Helen Bouldin. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Morrison) Lyons; sons, Marty (Stephanie Botti); daughters, Beth (Brett) Lyons-Sternburger, Patricia (Logan) Caswell; brothers, Tom, Joseph and Danny Lyons, sisters, Mary Jo Batley, Margie Warden and Cecelia Marie Lyons; grandchildren, Zachary, Shannen (Dustin), Paige (David), Molly, Logan, Delaney, Jillian; and 4 great-grandchildren.
