Carla Gene Harper

Carla Gene Harper, 63, of Dravosburg, formerly of McKeesport, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. She was born in McKeesport on January 19, 1960 and is daughter of the late Robert and Beatrice (Roll) Harper. She is a graduate of McKeesport Area High School. Carla was known for her generosity and big heart, and a talented cook who never used a recipe but could prepare a gourmet meal in minutes. She was a shy young lady who later in life could walk into a room of strangers and leave with a new friend. She was very well liked and respected by anyone she met or knew over the years. She enjoyed an occasional ride on the Harley Davidson, a good glass of wine, and trips to Las Vegas; but more than anything, she cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, Savia, Rylee, Khyzer,  and Ahrenzo. Grandma (Nene) was the title she was most proud of. Carla is survived by her life partner Mark Golya, daughters, Christina Harper and Stephanie'e (Zachary Williams) Golya, sister Bonnie (John) Miller, and many nieces and nephews who she adored. She is now reunited with her mother, Beatrice Harper, and brothers, Robert Harper and Arthur (Jack) Harper. Carla has requested to have no visitation. Marlene Corvino, 78, of Monroeville, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023. She was born in Pittsburgh on November 13, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ann (Dellapena) Corvino. Marlene is survived by her niece, Lisa Novacek of Elizabeth Township; nephews, Ralph (Cathy) Ashbaugh of Yorbalinda, CA, and Gary (Marsha) Ashbaugh of Pittsburgh; great-nephews, Luke & Max Novacek, and Alex, Michael, and Anderson "Andie" Ashbaugh. In addition to her parents, Marlene is preceded in death by her sister, Henrietta Ashbaugh. There is no visitation. John P. Lucas, Jr.

John P. Lucas, Jr., 87, of Elizabeth Township, formerly of Forest Hills, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023. He was born in Wilkinsburg on July 10, 1936 and was the son of the late John P. Lucas, Sr., and the late Cecilia “Tillie” (Luketich) Lucas. He was the husband of 60 years of the late Colleen (Karabin) Lucas before her passing on January 3, 2018. He was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and was a US Army Private First Class from 1956-1958. He worked as a technician for Westinghouse, Waltz Mill site for almost 30 years, and also serviced nuclear reactors in Europe and Asia. Prior to Westinghouse, John worked as a carpenter and throughout his life could design and build just about anything. John was a volunteer firefighter with the Greenock Volunteer Fire Dept., and with the Waltz Mill Fire Dept. for many years. He was also a long time member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, and the White Oak American Legion Post #701. An avid golfer, John also liked to spend his time camping and fishing.

Charles Walter “Chad” Zowacki, II., passed on Friday, August 4, 2023 in Indiana, PA where he lived and ran his business with his fiancé, Amber Snyder, daughter, Madelyn Zowacki and intended step-daughter, Riley Davis.  Chad was born on October 8, 1990 at McKeesport Hospital and was raised in the town of Sutersville, which always remained “home” no matter where life took him.  Chad was the owner, operator, salesman and heart of the roofing company he began in 2017, Riley Madelyn Roofing, LLC. Chad worked tirelessly to build and grow his business and the success he achieved in life was hard-earned and well-deserved.  He was proud, honored and enormously grateful for the crew that he had the privilege of working with everyday, for the customers who entrusted him with their homes and for the overwhelmingly positive feedback he continuously received from the community; having won numerous awards, year after year, for the quality of work and customer service he became known for.

Gerald J. "Jerry" Ference, 88, of White Oak, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023. He was born in McKeesport on November 25, 1934 and was the son to the late John and Mary (Stefon) Ference. He was the beloved husband to the late Geraldine Marie Ference before she passed away in January 2020. Jerry was a graduate of McKeesport High School, and went away to college for a short time before realizing marrying the love of his life, Geraldine, was what he truly wanted in life. He worked for Cassidy Pierce Warehouse Company for over 45 years before retiring. He was a long time member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon. Jerry loved boating, playing cards, enjoying the time spent at their summer home in the mountains, but he was also an avid football fan; he never missed a Steelers game. He was a huge family man & loved to spend time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren & just watching the family grow over the years.

Diane L. Miele, 80, of North Huntingdon, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 31, 1942 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late William and Anita (Payne) McHenry.  She was wife of 61 years to the late Joseph A. Miele, who passed away August 29, 2022.  She was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Alvernia High School. She worked for over 35 years in the mortgage business in real estate and as a mortgage broker. In 1971, along with her late husband Joseph, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended and was an active member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Trafford. Diane was an accomplished equestrian rider and enjoyed gardening, cooking and wine making. Our mom was a special wife, mother, mee-maw and friend.  Her greatest joy besides her family, was to share with others the Bible's grand promises of no more suffering and death.  Diane will be greatly missed every single day until we see her again.  S

He was born January 18, 1938 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late John and Anna (Petrisko) Meskanick. Carl was a member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish- St. Michael Church in Elizabeth Township. He was the proprietor of the former Riverside Hotel in Dravosburg and was previously co-owner of the Cross Creek Inn in Elizabeth Township with his son Michael. He was a graduate of Duquesne High School and was a US Army Veteran serving from 1957 to 1960. He loved his family and his grandchildren meant the world to him.

She was cared for by her son, Harry McDaniel and Dana McDaniel of Duluth, GA. In addition to her son, she is survived by her grandchildren, Thomas McDaniel, Adam McDaniel, Lori (McDaniel) Selesky, Heather Radford, Mary Bullard and Michell Taylor as well as 9 great-grandchildren. John "Jack" Dennis Burkett, 97, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023. He was born December 24, 1925 in Charleroi and was the son of the late Lloyd and Julia (Sigmond) Burkett. Jack was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth Township and the USS The Sullivans Destroyer, DD-537 Association. He was a former member of Elizabeth Township Senior Citizens. Jack was a WWII Navy veteran and had served on the USS The Sullivans Destroyer (DD-537) and the USS Riley (DE-579). For his service, he received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign medal with 6 Stars, the America Area Campaign, the Philippine Liberation Campaign medal with 2 Stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Jack grew up in Clairton and had retired from US Steel Clairton Works as a Millwright.

She was born in Spartanburg, SC on January 11, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Keith and Irene (Gierard) Roberts, and the late Robert Marazzi. She was a registered nurse for many years, a profession that continued to define her through later career changes. She traveled all over the world and had many stories to tell about her adventures. She loved to read and was extremely crafty - cross stitch, needlework, sewing and crocheting were favorite hobbies. In particular, she cherished memories of making Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren.

George Calvin Weimer, 89, of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023. He was born June 17, 1934, in Friedens, PA and was the son of the late George Dewey and Ruth Elmira (Hay) Weimer. George was a graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He served in the Coast Guard before going to work for numerous companies, most notably as a Senior Project Engineer for Rust International Corporation in Pittsburgh.  He was a very faithful member of the First Lutheran Church, 615 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh, where he served as Head Usher for many years, and as a member of the Property Committee and Congregational Council, and where he met his wife of 62 years, Beatrice. He was an excellent gardener and enjoyed his garden and the birds that frequent the yard at his home in Hampton Township.  He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.  A meticulous worker and thinker, he had a keen interest in history and political events, loved great music, and collected regional matchbooks, American coins, and postage stamps from all around the world. His kindness and humor will be greatly missed by friends, neighbors, and beloved extended family.
