Joseph was a physics teacher for many years at McKeesport Area School District and was also the principal of Yough High School from 1986 to 1997.

Shirley began her career at Westinghouse and then would retire from the McKeesport School District in the Administration Office.  When she was younger, she played the piano, organ and was a soloist at Christian Life Church in Trafford.  Shirley adored her grandchildren and loved to play Uno and Scrabble with them.

Gloria was a graduate of St. Peter High School in McKeesport. She worked for over 30 years in the admissions department of McKeesport Hospital. She was a member of the former Holy Trinity Church, and Mary, Mother of God Parish, Gloria was active in the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and The Ladies of Charity. She enjoyed bingo, casinos, baking, crocheting, sewing, helping her granddaughter Angie with her ancestry tree, and loved collecting Pandas.

Shelly was a 1986 graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Public Welfare Department.

Shelly had a vibrant personality and an infectious smile that lit up every room she walked in and touched every person she encountered. She was a fashionista who enjoyed shopping and being in the company of others. Shelly loved to laugh and have a great time. She was a devoted wife and mother whose children brought her great joy.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served on the J. Harold Hayes Scholarship Committee and the Esther Project.

She was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, where she was a Christian Mother. She was a graduate of Westinghouse High School. In her early years, she worked as a secretary at Westinghouse Electric of East Pittsburgh. Dorothy also worked at the former White Oak Marraccini's and the former Golden Rule. She enjoyed going for walks around her neighborhood and was a very loving and caring person.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Donald Bishop of Irwin; sister Dolores Mols of McKeesport; also many nieces and nephews.

Born December 29, 1941 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Adrian Paul and Florence (Patton) Neeson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frankie E. (Dobbins) Neeson; sons, John A. (Sherrie) Neeson of California, Eric P. (Michelle) Neeson of Oregon and Mark A. (Michele) Neeson of Sidman; step daughters, Marti (Mike) Gommerman of Charlotte, NC and Kelly (Robert) Emerick of Rostraver; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Russell M. John Paul Byrnes, December 26, 1916-September 23, 2021, of West Mifflin. Three months shy of his 105th birthday, John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters, on Thursday, September 23, 2021. John was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Horten) Byrnes of 57 years, his parents, Emmett and Marie Byrnes and eight of his ten siblings, Bill (88), Andy (97), Betsy Gill (85), Bob (104), Elaine (100), Joe (91), Richard (28) and Jimmy (85). Those left behind to celebrate his life are his three daughters, Pam (late Rick) DeBor of South Park, Joyce (Bob) Dowd of Canonsburg and Rita Byrnes of West Mifflin; granddaughter, Heather (Kevin) Pazandak and two great grandsons, Everett and Nolan Pazandak of Rogers, MN; and his two remaining siblings, Patrick of Ohio and Carmine Lieb of Nicktown, PA. As a young man, John worked in the coal mines of Hastings Fuel Company, drilling, setting charges and blasting coal. In January 1942, at the age of 25, John enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was assigned to the 35th Materials Squadron, stationed in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in November 1945, having received a Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, 4 Bronze Stars and the WWII Victory Medal. In 1948, John and Marjorie moved to Duquesne and eventually West Mifflin where John worked for the USS Irvin Works until he retired. John lived a long life, which was ironic as he cheated death on numerous occasions. Quarantined four times in his lifetime for the Spanish Flu of 1918, diphtheria, scarlet fever and more recently Covid 19. He was also a 20 plus year survivor of colon cancer. John showed his family how to persevere in difficult times as he lived through the depression, a World War, and most recently a Pandemic. Dad, know that your daughters appreciate all the sacrifices you and mom made for us, that we will miss you, but, most of all, that you are Both loved. Until we meet again, may God hold you Both in his loving arms. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300. Blessing service will be held at the funeral Home on Monday, September 27, 2021, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Duquesne, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Mifflin, with Military Honors.

Joudat "Umoo, Jody" Hadad, 89, went to be with the Lord and his loved ones on September 19, 2021. He is survived by his three brothers and two sisters, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Jody was loved by all. Although he had no children, he treated them like his own. He was more than just Umoo. He was like a father, brother, friend, mentor, a pillar of strength, ambitious, humble and wise beyond his years. His work was endless and, often times, thankless. Umoo was a well-respected man; he was the head of the family. Jody was born in Syria. He married Virginia and moved to Versailles, Pa., in 1956. He and his wife made a life in Pa. for eight years, working in the florist and restaurant industries. In 1964, they moved to Va., where he opened his first restaurant and later turned it into a music store, Jody's Music. Fifteen years later, he built and operated alongside his brother, Abdalla, their own music and auto sound store. Jody had such a love and passion for Arabic music that he performed in his free time on his "oud" with his band. He loved playing for family and friends, whether it was on holidays or SNL in his home.

(Milasincic) Dujmic.  A graduate of both Serra High School and Penn State University, Michael was a travelling auditor for G.C. Murphy's in McKeesport who also worked for Penn State - Greater Allegheny, Norwin Construction, and TRC.  In his spare time, he was a member of the McKeesport Historical Society and a Volunteer at the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank in Duquesne.  Michael is survived by his wife of 36 years Marsha (Whiting) Dujmic; his sister JoAnne A. (Larry Brugnoli) Moore of North Huntingdon: his nieces and nephews: Ryan (Yeganeh) and Kevin (Colleen) Moore, Jessica (Josh) Otto, Jana Pavlack, Lauren Holman, and Jimmy Homer; his great-nieces-and-nephews Tyler, Mason, Jaxson, Wyatt, and Landon; his mother-in-law Dollie (the late Raymond) Whiting of Elizabeth; and his sister-in-law Carolyn W. Pap made sure he was there for all their significant milestones.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph W. Gogots; brothers, Toivo and Edwin Sjöblom; and sister, Helen Jones. She spent most of her life in Jefferson Hills. After graduating from Clairton High School, she worked for All American Aviation, the predecessor of Allegheny Airlines/USAir. She also worked as a secretary for several firms and as a travel agent. She loved to travel and do ballroom dancing. She was a member of the West Jefferson Hills Historical Society, Scandinavian Society of Western PA, the Finlandia Foundation/Finnish Room Committee of the University of Pittsburgh, and Red Hat Society.

Michael Paul Ballas, age 84, of North Huntington, PA, passed away on September 21st, 2021 after a series of recent strokes and a courageous battle with cancer over the last 15 years. Michael was the beloved husband of Norma Lee Ballas for 58 years and loving father of Michael R. Ballas of Delaware and Mark Ballas of Alpharetta, Georgia. Murphy Co, Toyco, and finally JCPenney’s where she was a loyal employee for 36 years, retiring in 2012.  The most important thing to our mother was family. She was our rock and inspiration. She was there for all of us through the good and bad, for every one of our life’s “firsts” and wasn’t afraid to put us in our place when need be. She is survived by our father, Ronald L. Ruby of McKeesport; her children John  (Theresa) Ruby of Mt. Karli Asti Short, 26, was born July 18, 1995. She was the beloved daughter of Brandon Short and Krista Pettis. Karli attended McKeesport Area School District and was a graduate of McKeesport High School Class of 2014.

At the age of four, Karli was a cheerleader for White Oak Falcons. Also, she played basketball at the McKeesport YMCA and was a majorette for Golden Eagle in North Huntington. Having studied cosmetology in high school, following graduation, Karli used that portion of her education working part-time as a hairstylist and makeup artist. She enjoyed making people feel their best by looking their best for special occasions. Additionally, Karli was an excellent cook and worked at PC Planning and Catering were her specialty dish was macaroni and cheese.

The job Karli loved the most was as a caregiver where she worked at Mt. Vernon of South Park and most recently, Senior Care Plaza. This work tapped into her caring nature and she felt joy helping those who needed help. In her youth, Karli attended Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Sunday School. She participated in the annual Easter and Christmas services and was always excited to deliver her speeches. Karli never strayed from her Lord and Savior Jesus.

John “Jack” William Holohan of Latrobe, Pa., died Sept. 12, 2021. He was born Aug. 6, 1947 in Pittsburgh to James and Margaret (Cosgrove) Holohan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Christine (Hulker) Holohan and his daughters Meghan Holohan (Mike Joyce), Colleen Kingsbury (Kris Kingsbury), his two granddaughters Harper and Emerson Kingsbury, his brother James Holohan and his sister Margaret “Peggy” Dennis (Ron Dennis).

His family fondly recalls his onetime ability to retain random information and how he regularly defeated the entire family in Trivial Pursuit games. He enjoyed World War II movies, the “Princess Bride” reading, tending to the yard and spending time with his family. As a long-time Steelers season ticket holder, he watched the game as if he was part of the coaching staff and often had insightful criticism of the team, which he’d freely share.

He worked for more than 40 years as a controller in manufacturing and enjoyed math—his children, nieces and nephews won’t soon forget learning math with the “houses of 10.” He always loved learning, which made his experience with dementia seem even harder.

Glen, and Glen O. Dixon; grandfather of Taylor Renee Bush and Adia Lee Glen; brother of the late George French, Bobbie French, the late Dorothy French, Linda French, the late Janice French, Peggy Moore, Marchelle French-Fountain, Ivory French, Marlon French, Gregory French, Christopher French, Troy French, and Jeffrey French.  Clarence retired after over 40 years of employment with the Fisher Body Division of General Motors, retiring from the West Mifflin Plant.  He served his country honorably as a Veteran of the US Army.  Clarence was most proud of receiving his bachelor's degree from Carlow College.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing with his friends, and watching old westerns.  Clarence will always be remembered for his kind and generous heart and his thoughtfulness for the needs of others.  And, he was always noted for his fashion style and fine jewelry.

Upon returning to the Pittsburgh area, Kathy was a faithful and active member of First Lutheran Church. The First Evangelical Lutheran Church in downtown Pittsburgh was an important part of her life as well as the many wonderful people who made her feel very welcome and special. She went home to be with Jesus and to greet her mother Annette (Jancsik) and her father William Micklo of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. Dorothy (Dotty) lived in Florida for the past 16 years with her loving and devoted husband Jim. Some of her closest friends are sisters Joyce and Gladys Hudak. Dorothy and Jim 's daughter, Stacie Crisp lives with her husband Eric and son Dalton. Dotty and Jim's son, Jim Richie lives with his wife Christine and two daughters, Helena and Emily. Dotty was close and loved spending time with her sisters Gail Henderson and Leslie Frazier. Dotty was the Supervisor of the Radiology Department at Jeannette Hospital. Dotty will miss all her family and friends but she is in Heaven now with Jesus and will be there to greet us when it is our time to go home. Friends and family will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, on Monday September 13th from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm. and on Tuesday from 8 am to 9:30 am with parting prayers at 9:30 am. She was always there to lend a helping hand when you needed her.

Iski, who passed in 2016.  Born in McKeesport, Pa, she was the daughter of the late John & Felicia (Mustacchio) Pausic.  Mary Felicia was a graduate of Duquesne University, and later went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Library Science.

She taught at Rittenhouse Middle School and Eisenhower Middle School in Norristown and was the schools’ librarian for many years. Lawrence "JR" Wilson, Jr., 85, of Monroeville, died Sept. 4, 2021.  He is the beloved husband of the late Geraldine "Geri" Wilson.  He is survived by his sister-in-law Joan Drosdick and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Crystal and son Larry. He enjoyed helping Geri taking care of her Seeing Eye German Sheperds Bouquet, Pride, Neon and Olina. JR was retired from Firestone, where he worked for 23 years and Giant Eagle where he worked for 22 years.   JR joined the Monroeville Lions Club in 1982 where he served as Club President from 2005- 2006 and then became a member of the White Oak Lions Club where he continued to be very active until his death.  He was also a member of the Wilkins Elks Lodge #577 for over 20 years and rarely missed a meeting.  He was a huge Pittsburgh sport fan, including the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.  A memorial service will be held on Sat., Sept. 11 at 11am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Monroeville outside at the gazebo.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilkins Elks Lodge #577 Scholarship Fund.

Virginia (Perich) Pekala, age 100 of Clairton, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the John J. Kane Regional Center, McKeesport.  Born March 24, 1921 in Munhall, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Tomas) Perich.  Prior to having children, Virginia worked as a secretary for US Steel National Tube Works in Christy Park.  Virginia was a member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Clare of Assisi Church and a woman of great faith, who dutifully prayed her rosary daily.  She also enjoyed playing the slot machines at the casino.  Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Elmer J. Pekala, who passed away in November of 1999, and her siblings Mary Matesic, Mildred Dobrick, Olga Kensky, and John and Anthony Perich.  She is survived by her sons David (Linda) Pekala of Parker, CO, and Eric (Debi) Pekala of Elizabeth, her daughter Maureen (Tim) Tackett of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren Matthew (Stephanie) Pekala of Marlton, NJ, Megan (Timothy) Lindsey of Highlands Ranch, CO, Brian (Jenni Simek) Tackett of Kenmore, NY, Lauren (Nate Haynes) Tackett of Lexington, KY, Tara (Salvatore Stojakovich) Pekala of Clairton, and Macy (Shawn Miller) Pekala of Pittsburgh; her great-grandchildren Jude Pekala, Jackson Lindsey, and Makiya Miller; her nieces Sandy Sivak, Paula Kensky, and Marlene Koshar; and her nephew George Dobrick.

Kovacevic, age 69 of Beaver Falls and formerly of Glassport, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 in UPMC Passavant.  Born February 4, 1952 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Edna (Pehl) Kovacevic.  A graduate of Geneva College with a bachelor's degree in biology and recipient of an associate's degree in industrial engineering, Michael worked as an industrial engineering manager, plant manager, and consultant with Babcock and Wilcox in Beaver Falls, Keystone Windows in New Castle, and others.  He was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church of Sewickley and a former president and vice president of the local chapter of the AIIE.  In his spare time, Michael was an avid reader, especially history and sci-fi, a fisherman, and an outdoor lover.  Most of all though, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  Michael is survived by his wife of 47 years Pamela Kovacevic; his children Col. Michael (Joy) Kovacevic of Ft. Myer, VA and Rachel (Todd) Balog of Honolulu, HI; and his grandchildren Michael and Nathan Kovacevic and Kaitlin, Kierstin, Kenzie, and Paul Balog.

Joan G. Swineburg, age 85, of McKeesport, passed away on August 31, 2021, at home. Born in Duquesne on February 5, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Elias & Alma (Hart) Kelley and wife of the late Robert Swineburg. She was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duquesne. She is survived by children, Donna Kelley of Glassport, Jo Ellen Jordan of McKeesport and Marie (Dominic) Yeager of Glassport; 15 Grandchildren; 32 Great Grandchildren; and Nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by Brothers and Sister, David Kelley, Jack Kelley, Norman Kelley and Ann Bowman. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER, SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER, FUNERAL DIRECTOR, where services will be held the same day, at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. John Gropp officiating, and at 8:00 p.m., with Pastor Trennon Neal officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Funeral Home.
