Joseph Gioia, 55, of Elizabeth Twp, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at John J. Kane Regional Center - McKeesport. He was a union master electrician for Local No. 5 in Pittsburgh. The humble family patriarch, Joe enjoyed archery hunting, fishing, and taking his collector's edition Trans Am to car shows. He was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp.

Patricia “Patti” A. (Panzo) Brush, age 63, of North Versailles, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 26, 2016. She was born June 13, 1952 in McKeesport, a daughter of Sophie (Zapora) Panzo and the late Stephen Panzo. She was a former member of St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church in North Huntingdon. Patti had owned the Comfort Zone tanning and nail salon in Level Green, and work at the Westwood Banquet Center in Duquesne before dedicating her time to her mother’s care.

Betty Ruth Kline, age 88, of White Oak, died May 28, 2016 at her residence. She was born in McKeesport on August 22, 1927 and is the daughter of the late Max and Leona Berkowitz Greenfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of over 60 years, Bernard H. Kline, a WW ll veteran and her brother, Donald Greenfield.

She was a retired registered nurse, a former Brownie Leader, loved to go to lunch with her friends and play bridge and Mahj Jongg. She was a member of Temple B’Nai Israel, the Sisterhood, B’Nai Brith Women and Hadassa. She truly enjoyed singing and tapdancing in the Sisterhood Plays and at the membership luncheons.

She is survived by daughters; Ellie (Bruce) Lederman of Pacific Palisades, CA, Meryl (Fred) Trachtman of Olney, MD, son; George (Mary Jo) Kline of White Oak, grandchildren; Eric, Jeffrey, and Joshua (Elizabeth) Lederman, Reita, Lena, and Max Kline, and Rachel and Molly Trachtman, and sister, Phyllis Greenwald of N. Hills, California.

Friends and family will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412 678 6177) on Tuesday from 1:30 until 3:00 pm. when services will be held in the funeral home chapel. Rabbi Paul Tuchman will officiate the services and the eulogy will be by Rabbi Daniel Schiff. Burial will follow in Agudath Achim Cemetery in Forest Hills.

James (Jim) Joseph Schubert, age 50, of Donegal passed away suddenly at his home on May 28, 2016. Born in Homestead on September 18, 1965, he was the son of the late Harry and Shirley (Ireland) Schubert. An employee of DeCarlo Distributing,Jim loved to DJ and enjoyed amusement parks, roller coasters, baseball, and Laurel Highlands Campland.

Surviving him, his beloved wife Patricia Diane (Stewart) Schubert of Donegal, daughters; Jamie Schubert of Finleyville, Courtney Schubert of McKeesport and Shannon Schubert of McKeesport, step-son; Brandon Nowikowski of Donegal, brother; Ronald Schubert of Homestead, and sister; Elaine Burgey of North Huntingdon.

Victor W. Molnar DDS, of McKeesport, died May 20, 2016, at Southwestern Nursing Care Center. Born June 24, 1928, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Barillo) Molnar.

Victor was a retired dentist. While maintaining a private practice in McKeesport, he often provided free dental services to McKeesport School District students. Victor was a member of the former Transfiguration of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Sierra Club, Dental Association of Western Pennsylvania, Hungarian Room Committee of Pittsburgh, and served as secretary and treasurer of the Hungarian Social Club of McKeesport.

Albert “Jake” Popojas, age 84, of Liberty Boro, died May 26, 2016.  He was born in Duquesne on October 1, 1931 and is the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Huszar) Popojas and beloved husband of Theresa (Bollas) Popojas. 

He was a member of St. Mark Church and Liberty Borough Veterans Association.  Jake retired from U.S. Steel where he worked as a bricklayer.

Nathan Weiss, 92, of McKeesport died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at The Palms At O’Neil.  Born in McKeesport, May 23, 1924, he was a factory representative, a member of Temple B’nai Israel, and a WW II US Army veteran, serving in active duty and the reserves for 31 years with a rank of Master Sergeant.  Son of the late Armon and Fannie Solomon Weiss, he is survived by his wife, Reisse Jeanne Palley Weiss and by nieces and nephews.  A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, May 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Temple B’nai Israel Cemetery with Rabbi Moshe Russell officiating.  Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA  15132 is in charge of arrangements.

Michael E. Hirjak, age 87 of McKeesport, passed away on May 23, 2016 at The Gardens of Lincoln Court in North Versailles. Born March 15, 1929 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Jula) Hirjak, and beloved husband of the late Margaretta (Mastilak) Hirjak. Michael honorably served in the US Navy, and following his military service, he began his career as a Master Technician for the automotive industry. He worked for many years as the Service Manager at Devereaux Chevrolet and Tom Clark. He was also a member of the White Oak Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. Mike enjoyed playing checkers with his great-grandson Jacob and loved watching his great-granddaughter Maura dance. His talent and passion for fixing things and being an all-around handyman will be missed by many. He is survived by his daughters,  Linda M. (Gary Kiesell of White Oak) Kiesell of Liberty Boro, Patricia Ann (the late Bob) Bashore of Elizabethtown, PA and granddaughter, Stacey Tabanli; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Maura Joy Tabanli whom he adored; his loving companion, Norma Budnick; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Karabin, Helen Azzarello and Joseph Hirjak. Her three home caregivers, Kerri, Jess, and Tiny and her friend Andria Crisp as well as husband and daughter comforted her all night. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of almost fifty years, William Blair Shenefelt II, a daughter Cheryl Shenefelt Bush and son-in-law, Brandon Bush currently residing in Somerset.
