Dan Verdish, age 97, of White Oak, died on Friday, July 21, 2023. He was born in McKeesport on November 27, 1925 and is the son of the late Dan and Margaret Kormos Verdesh, and the husband of the late Virginia Ciolak Verdish. Dan proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, he was employed as an electrician at Kelsey Hays, Firth Stirling, and retired from Westinghouse Electric 36 years ago. He was an avid tennis player who played every day, usually at Renzie Park, as well as in tournaments. He loved reading, walking, traveling, fishing, hunting, and going to his cabin in Marienville. He was a member of the General Smedley D. Butler Post 701 White Oak American Legion, and the Eleventh Ward Club. He was also the former treasurer of the Foreman’s Association at Westinghouse Electric.

Patricia Ann Slinskey, age 86, of Dravosburg, died on Friday, July 14, 2023. She was born in Leetsdale, PA on April 9, 1937 and grew up in Ambridge, PA. She is the daughter of the late Dennis and Mary Komas O’Connor. After graduating from Ambridge High School with National Honors, she went to work for the A.M. Byers Company in Ambridge as an executive secretary. In 1958, she married our father John and changed careers to become a housewife. Mom was the sweetest, most loving, and devoted mother, grandma, and wife. Her adorable smile and unconditional kindness touched the hearts of everyone she met. Faith and family were her top priorities. Her delectable cooking and exquisite penmanship were just a few of her noteworthy talents. She took great pride in her Irish heritage. A devout catholic having said the rosary nightly, never swore or made a negative comment about anyone. A true saint. The world regrettably has lost its most generous and loving angel, but Heaven gained its superstar. We love and miss you mom and grandma!!!...”Here’s a Kiss”! Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Slinskey in 2022 and son, John D. Slinskey in 1968.

John M. Raevens, age 93, of McKeesport, PA, died on Sunday, July 9, 2023. He was born in Poperinge, Belgium on August 10, 1929 and is the son of the late Gaston and Anna Van Habost Raevens. He received his Doctorate in Music and taught as a professor of music for Duquesne University for 49 years. He was a world-renowned organist, where he played at the Vatican, throughout Europe (John received first prize in organ in Belgium), as well as at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. He published a book titled, “Music: An Understanding and Enjoyment”. He also led the choir at various churches in the Pittsburgh area, including St. Germaine Church in Bethel Park, PA and Epiphany Church in Pittsburgh, PA. John loved nature and painting artwork, had a very strong faith in God, and had a great love for his family. He was a very warm and charismatic person and was well loved by everyone.

She was employed as the first female machinist at Westinghouse and was also a trainer for them. She would periodically travel to their locations in Germany as well. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, attending plays and musicals, and going out with her friends. She was also attended of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church (former St. Mary Czestochowa Church), where she was a member of the Christian Mothers.

She was the wife of the late Robert Francis Doctorick and the companion of the late Thomas John Dineen. Patricia retired in retail from Sears and later was employed at Homelife, Roomful Express, Wicks, and Macy’s. She was a volunteer at the former St. Joseph’s school in Port Vue. She loved to bake, shop, go to the casino, and dance. Shag dancing was her favorite and she would vacation at Myrtle Beach with her friends during Shag week. She once bought a wedding gown for twenty dollars to wear on Halloween. She really enjoyed spending time dancing on Friday nights at the Twin Oaks Lounge with all her friends.
