John Robert Sims, Jr., age 76, of White Oak, died on Monday, October 17, 2022. He was born in Pittsburgh on December 21, 1945 and is the son of the late John Robert, Sr. and Gay Marie Hessenmueller Sims. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed on the same submarine that is at the Carnegie Science Center. After serving in the military, John was employed at the Hilton in downtown Pittsburgh, he worked in sales for many years, He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a masters in sociology. He then taught at various colleges throughout the area including the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Duquesne, La Roche University, and the Community College of Allegheny County. In 1998 he founded the Single and Custodial Father’s Network and continued there until its closing when he retired in 2005. He provided help to many, many people throughout the years.

Joseph proudly served in the United States Airforce and was stationed in Germany from 1984 to 1988. After his service in the military, Joseph was most recently employed at Mon Yough Community Services as a crew chief, where he worked with mentally disabled adults.

He graduated from Duquesne High School and attended Waynesburg University and the University of Pittsburgh. Ronald proudly served in the United States Army and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal as a Sharpshooter. After serving in the United States Army, he retired from CSX after 32 years as a Locomotive Engineer. He was a member of numerous organizations including, the General Smedley D. Butler Post 701 White Oak American Legion; Braddock Elks Lodge No. 883; Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania Infinity Lodge No. 546 in Penn Hills; Shriners International; Moose General Assembly Lodge No. 3000; Boston Vets Club; GBU in Duquesne; and the McKeesport Sportsmen’s Association.

Joseph was very good in baseball in his younger years and played semi pro for the Zemps. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins, and watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also loved animals and especially his cat, Charlie.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA); McKeesport Sportsman’s Association; and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was employed and retired as a police officer for White Oak Borough. He also was a self-defense and firearms instructor for the McKeesport Sportsman’s Association and the White Oak Police Department and was a White Oak City Councilman for six years.
