Mary Ida Markell died peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2021. She was a longtime resident at Arden Courts, Monroeville, formerly of East McKeepsort. She was born on August 4, 1925in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was the oldest child of the late Joseph and Rose (Flood) Markell. She was the devoted sister of the late Bernadette (Markell) Karp and the late Father John “Jack” Markell.
Mary Ida was the aunt of Sharon (Leonard) Oddo, Barbara (Larry) Breitenstein, John (Pam) Karp, and Eric Karp. Mary was the beloved great-aunt of Rachel (Luke) Maljan, Jennifer (Chase) Kontor, Stephanie (Ray) Schmitt, Nick Oddo; Kaitlyn, Lauren, and Zachary Karp; great-great aunt of Ava and Samuel Schmitt, and Maria and Amelia Kontor.
Visitation was held 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 26, at Forgie-Snyder Funeral Home, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport, (412) 823-8083. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 am Thursday, at St. Colman Church, Turtle Creek, with Father Jeremy Mohler as celebrant.
