Mary Nartic, age 94, of North Huntingdon, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Hempfield Manor. She was born May 17, 1921 in Hahntown, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Mantich Gubanich. She was preceded in death by her five siblings, John, Paul, Michael, Helen and Theresa, who tragically died in a fire in their home in 1936. Also deceased are her brother, Pete Gubanich and sisters, Anna Ryko and Theresa Molina. She was the last member of her family. She was married 61 years to her husband, Alexander, who died in 2007.

Her son Alan David passed away in 1982. Her beloved dog, Mitzy, who she called "her baby" died two months before her. She is survived by her daughter Carol Luzanski and her husband, Joseph, of West Newton; grandson, Michael, who she loved with all of her heart. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was a lifetime member of Saint Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Herminie. She had worked at Jersey Cereal in Hahntown and Jeannette Glass where she met her future husband. She was the secretary of former branch 256, of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Lodge. Her favorite job was being a wife and homemaker and mother. She loved taking care of her home as well as cooking and baking and spoiling her only grandchild. She liked traveling and reading the maps for Dad and navigating their trips in their motor home. They had traveled through most of the 50 states on two extended cross country trips. Their favorite trips were to Alaska and visiting several counties in Europe. After caring for her for almost four years, we will miss her silly antics, daily laughs, but mostly we will miss seeing her every day. We would like to thank the former Key Care Hospice for their wonderful care, especially Terry, Tracey and Sue. Thank you to Medi Home Health and Hospice for your care and support, especially Beth, Tonya and Sue. You were all so great and caring to our mother. I especially want to thank my husband for his support and his help, patience and care of my mother. Vicnaja jej pamjat! Eternal Memory! Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Parastas at 3 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Herminie.
