Irene M. Kozey

Willig Funeral Home & Crematory

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 08, 2016

Irene M. Kozey, age 91, of McKeesport, went to be with her Lord on Jan. 6, 2016, at Briarcliff Pavilion in North Huntingdon. Born June 1, 1924, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Michael (1957) and Anna (Vechter) (1969) Kozey and sister of the late Mary Kozey (1927).

Irene graduated from McKeesport High School and then began a 40 year secretarial career at Westinghouse. There she made many close and dear friends. Irene lived with and cared for her parents until their death. Irene belonged to St. Mark Parish and her faith was a very important part of her life. She was actively involved in the soup kitchen and was a member of the Ladies of Charity.

Her other interests included anything Pittsburgh – the Steelers, the Penguins and the Pirates. She loved to follow “her” teams and many conversations with her family in Canada centered on the highlights of those teams. With her close friends Irene loved to go to Atlantic City and on other travelling adventures and of course, anyone who knew Irene knew how much she loved to shop. Special times in her life were her yearly trips to visit her family in Canada, which she did until the age of 80.
Left to mourn her passing are first cousins, Anne (the late Joseph) Bukovinsky and Bert (Rose) Marcy of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; many second cousins and other family members of Canada and Slovakia. Irene was preceded in death by first cousins, Marie and Moreno DiFederico, Mary Marcy, Anna and Jozef Kubasky, Katarina Savelova, Maria Cervova and Jozef Dikant.
Irene was a very kind hearted soul – always giving, always pleasant, always smiling. Her caregivers at Briarcliff Pavilion where she was a resident for four years would most certainly agree. The family would like to thank the staff at Briarcliff Pavilion for their unceasing compassion and love shown to Irene.
Visitation will be at Willig Funeral Home from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, Jan. 9th. Father Daniel Straughn will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial at Port Vue Worship Site of St. Mark Parish at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be with her parents in New St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mark Parish, 1101 Romine Avenue, McKeesport, PA 15133.
