Albert E. Betar, 98, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday July 24, 2018, at home surrounded by family. He was born July 9, 1920 in Irwin, a son of the late Esper and Mary (Obade) Beter. Al was a graduate of Norwin High School, class of 1939 and received a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a retired stock broker for Hefren Tillitson, Inc., Pittsburgh, and past President of the Pittsburgh Stock and Bond Club. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, an avid poker player and enjoyed going to the casino, and had a pilot license. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, a Pittsburgh sports fan, and enjoyed having coffee with friends.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Emma M. (Elias) Betar; his sisters Rose Koury, Mary Bryan, Helen Jacobs, Elizabeth Sam, and Virginia DiPrimio; and brothers Abraham, Eli, Thomas, and Richard Beter. He is survived by his children Susan D. Berton, Peggy A. (Kenneth) Morgan, Sandy L. (Terry) Kuchma, and Cindy L. Betar all of North Huntingdon; grandchildren Nathan (Jaclyn) Morgan and Stacie (Robbie) Sill; great grandchildren Ainsley Morgan and Joshua Sill; sister in law Mae Beter of Irwin; also numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Ronald Durika, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to the food pantry at First Presbyterian Church, Irwin.
