Eleanor J. Carr Gornik, 88, passed away in her home on June 6, 2017 in the company of her daughters after a courageous battle with cancer. Eleanor was born to Lester B. and Ali Carr on August 27, 1928 in North Braddock. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Gornik, her parents Lester B. and Ali Carr and brother-in-law David Thomas. She is survived by her sister Helen Thomas, her children Charles D. Murphy III (Linda), Gail M. Terpko (John), Terry E. Hunt (Elmer) and Lee Ann G. Anderson (Bruce), grandchildren Caren Palmaverde, Deena Kingston (Stephen), Julie Murphy, Shannon Murphy, Michael McDonald, Stephanie Murphy and Avery Hunt; great grandchildren Lyla and Abel Kingston; numerous nieces and nephews and her grand dogs. She graduated in 1946 from East Pittsburgh High School.

Eleanor graciously shared her kind soul and warm spirit with guests and friends at Sweet Williams Restaurant and the Colonial Grill in Irwin for many years. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Irwin and the Irwin Women’s Club. Eleanor enjoyed reading, going to garage sales and spending time with her beloved grand dogs. She was a bright spot in the lives of all who knew her lighting up every room with her infectious smile. Eleanor maintained her sense of humor until the end. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Dr. Clifton J. Suher officiating at the Snyder Funeral Home. Private interment will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park in North Huntingdon Township.
