Ruth Serena, 92, of West Mifflin, PA, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023. She was born in Duquesne on July 31, 1931, and was the daughter to the late Nicholas and Loretta (Snyder) Schulte. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, John C. "Jack" Serena; and sisters, Dolores Zewe, Catherine Derhofer, Jane Steputis, Carole Petrozza; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Teresa Serena . She is survived by her children, Tom (Vilma) Serena, Maribeth (Eric) Bastian, and Jane (Steve) Cannata; grandchildren, Nick, Kaelynn (JC), Ryan, Parker, Kendall, Brianna, Amanda, Michael, and Joey; great-grandson, Oliver; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ruth was a proud graduate in 1953 of Shadyside Nursing School, becoming a head nurse at McKeesport Hospital. Ruth and Jack were original parishioners at Holy Spirit Parish in West Mifflin. She served the church as a CCD teacher and volunteered for many activities over the years. Ruth demonstrated her gratitude for her many blessings through her volunteer service to the Auberle Home for Boys, Meals on Wheels, Pennsylvania Association for the Blind and as a teacher’s assistant at St. Agnes School. She felt her most significant contribution to be the 30 years she devoted to helping establish and support the West Mifflin Emergency Medical Service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 1 Grove Place, Pittsburgh PA 15236 on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 10:00 am. PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH.
