She grew  up surrounded by many cousins and her dedicate canine companion, Snooty.  Joan was a graduate of Scott High School. After graduation, she joined Bell Telephone as a telephone operator for several years prior to marrying her loving husband, Zolton Emil Yurkov, on October 23, 1965.  Joan loved animals, especially dogs. She was an enthusiastic crafter, football fan, reader, and history buff. Above all, her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Joan enjoyed many adventures and often traveled the United States with her family and high school best friends. Joan was a longstanding member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Legion of Mary. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon, PA, since 1965 and sang in St. Agnes adult choir for over 30 years.
