E. Richard Kolesar, age 90, of East McKeesport, died September 4, 2022, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. Born June 25, 1932, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Michael and Susan (Hudak) Kolesar and husband of the late Rita Yvonne Kolesar for over 55 years.
Richard retired from Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Planning Commission (now the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission) as a Senior Traffic Engineer. He served in the United States Army during periods of the Korean and Vietnam wars, in both active and reserve status, with recognition of the National Defense Service Medal. Richard's military rank was First Lieutenant in the Field Artillery Branch. Throughout his life, he lived Army Strong and was a Soldier for Life. Richard was a McKeesport High School graduate and earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Duquesne University, graduating in 1954. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish. In his free time, Richard enjoyed reading and collecting books, especially on the subject of history. He enjoyed animals, wildlife, hiking, and the mountains. His family finds peace in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Rita, and his savior Jesus Christ.

Richard is survived by his three children, Krystyna Maria Anastasia Kolesar of Fairfax Station, VA, Richard Michael (Sharon) Kolesar of McMurray, and Kimberly Suzanne (Casey) Phillips of McMurray; grandchildren, Leah and Danny Kolesar, Lexi, Gigi, and Brennan Phillips. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Donations can be made to the Catholic Relief Services or Little Sisters of the Poor.
Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
