Rita (Bowers) Lewis, age 88, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Rita was a stay-at-home, loving mother who encouraged her children to be strong and independent. She endured a very harsh life growing up, including having polio. Despite all her hardships during her lifetime, she was still able to make her home a loving one. Rita was a past member of First Presbyterian Church in Clairton and was also a member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth. Rita loved being involved in her church, as a cook for many years as well as a volunteer to decorate or collect for church functions and/or for charities. Born May 15, 1933 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Martin Elroy Bowers Sr. and the late Sarah Agnes (O’Leary) Bowers Lewis, and wife of 65 years to the late James R. Lewis. She is survived by her children, Aritha M. (Bryce) Lewis of Lafayette, LA, and Terry Edward (Annette) Lewis of Duncansville; daughter-in-law, Susie Lewis of California; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by her son, James Richard Lewis; grandson, Bryce James Lewis; sister, Sarah Rose Kertis; and brothers, Martin Bowers Jr. and Sam Bowers. Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Round Hill Cemetery Chapel, Elizabeth Twp., with Pastor Benjamin Schneider officiating. Interment will follow the service.
