Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 09, 2021

James D. "Tex"  Sopata, age 78, of Mt. Washington, died December 7, 2021, at home.  Born June 24, 1943, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Joseph and Stella Sopata and husband of the late Cynthia (Venturini) Sopata.
James was a carpenter and owned his own construction company, James D. Sopata Construction.  He had an affection for animals, especially horses, which he would ride and train.  He also loved to plant tomatoes and go fishing.  Always an athlete, he competed and was a member of the Polish Falcons Nest 8 in gymnastics.  James attended college at New Mexico Western University. He held a scholarship in baseball and loved playing all sports. When his children began to play, he was by their side coaching their teams. He will forever be missed. In our hearts, he is riding horses in heaven with his wife.

James is survived by children, Ashley Sopata, Debra (Jerry Eibesberger) Sopata, Mike Sopata, Dan Sopata, and Jeff Sopata; a granddaughter, Autumn; brother, Ronald Sopata and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by a son, David Sopata.  Ashley would like to thank the family members that helped care for James at his home.
Arrangements were entrusted to Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the White Oak Animal Safe Haven 2295 Lincoln Way White Oak, PA 15131 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org.
