Gene Joseph Dandrea passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born in McKeesport on January 5, 1928 to the late Biagio Dandrea and Angelina Spaccassassi. Gene is survived by his loving wife Melva (Evkovich) Dandrea of 65 years at home.

He is also survived by his daughter Jody (Ronald) Kotun of Champion, PA, and Tierra Verde, FL, and Gene David (Abby) Dandrea of Murrysville, PA.

Grandchildren include Kellie Lewis of McKeesport, and her children, Sheldon and Schyler Chancio; Nicholas (Danielle) Lewis of North Huntingdon, and their children, Lucas Lewis, Lilly Holtzman, Lia Holtzman, and Zachary Holtzman; Richard Young, Frank Young, and Matthew Young of Hempfield Township; Carrie (Craig) Caterino of Plum Boro; Andrew (Katie) Rodriguez of Delmont, and their children, Harper and Carson; and Mario Dandrea of Murrysville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Gene retired from US Steel Edgar Thompson Works in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a proud US Army Veteran and served during World War II and the Korean War and was recipient of the World War II service ribbon.

Dad loved watching his Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates and anything sports related. He also enjoyed watching CNN, talking politics, and reading his newspaper. Above all, he was a very humble and devoted family man and will be missed by all who knew him. Rest well Dad. You earned your wings. The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and Bridges Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care.

Gene was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Young in 2016. He was also preceded in death by sisters Jennie Twele, Adeline “Lil” Barto, Lois “Gilda” Maloney, and a half-brother William “Willie” Petrelli. Gene is survived by a brother Lavino “Beans” Dandrea of Youngwood.

Arrangements are entrusted to the James F. Kutch Funeral Home and Crematory of East McKeesport. In accordance with Dad’s wishes, there will be no viewing. Internment at Jefferson Memorial Park with Military Honors will be private.
