Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 28, 2020

Janet E. Baker, age 70, of Liberty Borough, died December 26, 2020, at home. Born February 25, 1950, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Gatto and Madeline (Knee) Gatto. She was the wife of Hilary L. Baker, Jr., for 51 years.
Janet retired as a bookkeeper and then cared for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Liberty Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, where she served as an Elder, Deacon, and was active with the Women's Club. Janet enjoyed traveling and the most important thing in the world was her grandchildren's happiness.

In 2003, she was diagnosed with cancer. Janet embraced the challenge with the courage and grace her family had  known throughout her life. There were moments during the past three years when our strength wavered, but hers did not. She was a strong fighter and gave all that she had. Cancer eventually overcame her body, but never her beautiful spirit. We, her blessed family, will be inspired by her love and dignity forever.
In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Eric) Moranelli of Liberty Borough; grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, and Jenna; sister, Debra J. (Jason Mehalcik) Gatto of McKeesport; aunt, Lucille Bon of McKeesport; sisters-in-law, Marlyne (Peter) Lotz of Liberty Borough, and Barbara (Gerald) Hoak of White Oak; nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Janet was also preceded in death by her sister, Diane Kozej.
