Walter F. “Tut” Heid, age 89, of Belle Vernon, formerly of Elizabeth, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at home. He was a loving father, husband and a friend to all.

Walter was a graduate of Har-Brack High School and the University of Maryland. An Army veteran serving during the Korean War, he retired as a safety engineer for the steel industry.

He was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth Twp., was a past president of the Central Lions Club, and a member of the Sutersville Moose. Born December 15, 1930 in Tarentum, he was a son of the late Walter F. and Caroline (Stem) Heid.

Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Heid; children, Sheryl (Jerry) Heid Lazar of Perryopolis and Bryan (Cindy) Heid of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Anna and Joel Lazar; step-grandchildren, Holly (Dave) Croteau and Michael Scott; great-grandson, Alexander Croteau; nephews, Stephen and David Heid; nieces, Stacie Kennefick and Laura (Chip) Fohl; and great-niece, Olivia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, George Heid, and nephew, Walter Heid. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth, on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 1-4 PM. The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers of OSPTA Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, 100 Timothy Drive, Elizabeth, PA 15037. 

In order to comply with Covid-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 25 people at any given time inside the funeral home. Guests are required to wear masks and follow CDC social distancing guidelines. You may be asked to limit your visiting time so that all guests will have an opportunity to pay their respects.
