Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | August 01, 2020

Donald W. Spang, age 87, of McKeesport, died July 30, 2020, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Born August 7, 1932, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Anthony and Leona (Glaub) Spang.

Donald was the owner and operator of Spang's Landscaping and Tree Farms for over 54 years. He will always be remembered as the "Tree Man" throughout the McKeesport area.

Every year, you could find him on Hartman Street, in McKeesport, trimming and providing the community with the perfect tree to celebrate the Christmas Season. Don could tell you the name of any tree just by looking at the leaves, but his specialty was growing and providing the perfect pine tree for the Holiday Season. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Don loved his loyal pet dog, "Robbie." His greatest joys were his family and serving the community for over 54 years.

Don is survived by his siblings, Rose Miskalis of McKeesport, Joan (Vince) Aiello of White Oak, William of White Oak, and Herbert of FL; niece and nephews, Lisa (Scott) Beatty, Jay (Susie) Miskalis, and Scott (Chris) Aiello; great-nieces and great-nephews, Athena, Angelo, Taylor, Anthony, and Lexi; also many cousins.  In addition to his parents, Don was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas.

Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory, on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com
