George F. Thomas, 92, of Boise ID, formerly of North Huntingdon, PA and North Ft. Myers, FL, passed away on June 1, 2016.

  George was born in New Alexandria, PA, on May 1, 1924, the son of the late John Thomas, Sr. and Agnes (Babic) Thomas. He was married for 35 years to Ruth (Shadwick) Thomas and for 10 years to Kathleen Shafer Thomas, both of whom preceded him in death. Six brothers and sisters also preceded him in death, Barbara, Anna, James, Elizabeth, John, Jr., and Edward. Other than his family, his passion was hunting, and he had many big game trophies to attest to his skills. He was a retired locomotive engineer for the Union Railroad Company, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and in the Civil Conservation Corps. George is survived by 2 sons, Jerry (Madgelene) Thomas of Boise, ID and Terry (Sheila) Thomas of Baltimore, OH, 3 grandchildren, Brent Thomas (Shelly Henrikson) of Boise, ID, Emily (Michael) Detwiler of Columbus, OH, and Haley Thomas of Columbus, OH, great-grandson Andrew Thomas of Boise, ID, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends, including special niece Janie Bisi. Funeral services will be held at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Visitation will be immediately prior to the service at the same location from 9 to 11 am. Burial will follow at the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery in McKeesport, PA. www.shirleyfuneralhome.com
