Jennie R. Serro, 94, of Woodstock, Georgia, formerly of Sarasota, Florida and Irwin, Pennsylvania passed away on April 13, 2016 at the Woodstock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Jennie was the daughter of Albert Frowen and Bertha Kellar Frowen of Herminie, Pennsylvania. Jennie grew up in Herminie and met her late husband, Martin Serro, there. With Martin, she owned and operated the Irwin Trailer Sales before retiring in 1975 and moving to Sarasota, Florida in 1980. Jennie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She loved being in the kitchen, preparing family dinners for holidays and was well-known for her baking. She supported her husband in his Slovenian interests, enjoying Slovenian music, singing along to an accordion and worked with Martin to make the Slovenian Crystal Ballroom in Herminie, Pennsylvania a success. She would be found cooking in the kitchen there many weekends. While in Sarasota she was very active in St. Patrick’s Church as a Eucharistic Minister, supporting the church’s women’s group and volunteered at a Sarasota thrift shop for many years. She was always interested in sewing and crafts, reading, and traveling with her husband. Jennie was a member of S.N.P.J. Lodge 87 and the Crystal Ballroom in Herminie, PA, Croatian Lodge of Cokeburg, PA, St. Edward and Immaculate Conception Churches in PA, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sarasota, FL. Jennie is survived by her daughters Marlene Davis and husband Chuck of Woodstock, GA and Dr. Linda Serro of Estero, FL; three grandchildren, Dr. Gregory Houck of Estero, FL, Catherine Mazur and husband Gary of Trinity, FL, and Michael Houck of Estero, FL; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Houck and Ella Mazur. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Martin Serro, her parents, her brothers William Frowen and Clifford Frowen. She has many surviving nieces and nephews who will also miss her dearly. Viewing will take place at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA 15642 on Wednesday, April 20, 2-4 & 6-8 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Edward Catholic Church in Herminie, PA on Thursday, April 21 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Crystal Ballroom in Herminie following the mass and interment at the Westmoreland Memorial Park in Greensburg, PA.
