Charles Allan “Magoo” McGogney, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. A Class of 1956 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, he served in the U.S. Army, 11th Air Assault Division, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was self-employed in commercial floor maintenance. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Pymatuning, watching baseball and football games, western movies, and listening to a wide variety of music from the 1960s and ’70s, especially country western music and the rock groups The Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Always passionate about food, his favorite meal was Thanksgiving dinner. His favorite pastime was congregating with all his buddies at the local coffee shops throughout the years. Best known for his comical sense of humor, there was never a dull moment in his company. The younger generation loved learning about his philosophies of life. He had such a heart of gold and was so compassionate toward those less fortunate in life.

He was born January 22, 1939 in McKeesport to the late Alice (Russell) Lutheran. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth (Lennex) McGogney; daughter, Tammy (Ed Bowers) McGogney of Elizabeth; sister, Norma (Robert) Troup of Colfax, CA; his beloved pets, Cinnamon, Callan, Sparky and Elizabeth; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Hannah Dowden Russell; stepfather, Michael “Wimpy” Lutheran; beloved pets, Ricky, Pepe, Butchie, Impie, Dickey, Miss Kitty, Priscilla, Gizmo, Sylvester, Fluffy, Amber-Olivia, Zorro, Katie, Gulliver, Thumper, Savannah and Daisy Mae; and so many beloved friends. To his wife, she will always love him unconditionally. To his daughter, he will always be the best dad in the world. Until we meet again, with God’s grace, go rest high on that mountain — you so deserve it. Friends will be received Friday, October 19, 2018 from 2-8 PM in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 12 Noon with the Rev. Jim Crosby officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth Twp. Offer condolences at www.bekavacfuneralhome.com.
